  1. Never going to happen, but hypothetical scenarios are fun. The fact still remains they are 2.5 out of the WC and within striking distance in a weak division year. A fire sale is an off season move for this team even though they'd probably get max value right now. AA's job is on the line and if he's throwing in the towel he's done for. It's in his best interest to go for it and try to make the playoffs to save his own ass. With that said however, if something outrageous happens and a fire sale gets triggered, everyone should be trade bait except Stroman/Hutch & Lawrie, as they are the only legit, realistic pieces to build around. That is a lot of holes to fill but this team has the right players under ideal contracts to net a huge return.
  2. As much as I want the Jays to go for it this year, putting all of the chips in for a rental in Price is risky considering their on a downward spiral atm. Yes he's immediately help and give wins to a team that needs them most but if their total regression & injuries didn't come crashing at once, I think dealing for him made more sense. Their problem is they aren't just 1 player away from winning it all. They'd have to somehow be able to make a bigger play like include Zobrist in a bigger package to fill another gaping hole, otherwise I'm not interested in mortgaging the future for him.
  3. Arod is already 39yr old and owed $64M through 2017... With a year off I don't see how that can be beat. There is zero value in the contract.
  4. If it's easy to find a solid replacement LF that's equal to Melky's value, then how come the Jays have had below average LF options for the better part of the past decade? They aren't a dime a dozen. Not signing Melky and then having to subsequently trade assets for a replacement would bring much less value to the organization than giving Melky a qualifying offer, especially when he's worth close to the value of it to begin with.
  5. Except he produces a lot more runs than he creates from his D... Here's our past Left Fielders to compare Melky to: Travis Snider / Fred Lewis / Eric Thames / Adam Lind / Rajai Davis / Reed Johnson Give him the Qualifying Offer... I don't want Pillar nor any of the depth options behind him for call ups. I'm sick of Blue Jays thin left field options of the past, we finally have a capable bat who is an everyday player and you want to get rid of him. Probably the same people who also want to have a $200MM payroll and then complain about giving him a QO... One less future hole to fill.
  6. Encarnac... oh wait.. Abreu!? oh hmmm... got to be Cruz!!! Trout?? Maybe Victor Martinez? Screw it then, I pick David Ortiz.
  7. Hearing some people try to argue the Jays should be following the Yankees formula to win is rather revolting.
  8. For a guy who pretty much owes every ounce of star power he has to the Blue Jays, it's probably not best to always speak the truth lol. I don't know what questions he was asked to get that out of him so I guess it's hard to judge. Was he speaking only to Shi in an interview or was this to the press?
  9. Btw told you Johnson can work out nicely. Dude has solid at bats. Screw the haters.
  10. Wasn't Cecil relied on to get everyone out last year? He's not just some lefty specialist.
  11. And you guys were laughing at AA for goiing after Soria... Now you know why.
  12. Would Lind need a few rehab games from that or would we expect him just back with the big club as DH to start?
  13. I still can't believe the Rangers over the last few years haven't pursued Adam Lind...
  14. Everyone would just move up a notch. If Johnson or Francisco get on base, Reyes' speed is wasted.
  15. and then you could play shortstop.
  16. On average, this could be the slowest line up in the majors.
  17. Considering he was a below average minor league shortstop, how do you define 'still play' lol.
  18. There will be a lot of Jays fans watching their first playoff game in over 20 years drinking beers and snacking on their foot.
  19. Why? Because this season isn't a write off...
  20. No I don't think so. KingKat and I posted line up possibilities with Johnson called up in your 3rd basemen thread on pages 2/3. Mine addressed your want of getting Francisco off the field as well.
  21. Trading JoeyBats and/or EE right now to stabilize the future would be a big whiff for the owners and casual fanbase (which factors in to their marketing line). Maybe by next year's deadline depending how the year goes but the Jays need to be a playoff team now with this core for any of these last investments to be seen as worthy from owners. Not to mention to want to invest again in the future. Trading away millions of dollars of invested money which came with the purpose of contending by next year would be an awfully long winded ROI to load up the farm at this stage.
  22. what a jerk move (referring to both your post and the video)
  23. I think we'll be surprised and I can see him getting daily work at first. It's a good solution while we wait for someone to return and it gives us options moving Bautista to either RF or 3B. I don't want to see up and coming pitching prospects moved for a temp solution.
  24. Good he should be here.
  25. I don't know what a platelet rich plasma injection is but it sure sounds high tech. Honestly, I don't like to see Tanaka go down from a sportsmanship perspective. If Buerhle was down earlier this year we'd likely have 4 or 5 more losses on the record too. I like to beat teams who field their best players. You could argue well the Jays are missing x, x, x so it balances out but if Tommy John Surgery is a possibility that does suck for them and we know from experience.
