  1. Cruz will land a larger contract than Cabrera. Age aside, he's still the MLB homerun leader and someone will overpay for him.
  2. I don't know him well, what happened to him the last couple years? Looks like he's really declined and he's 34? He was a legit masher a few years back.
  3. Crazy thought. What about Dan Uggla in a 1 year +1 option deal? He's older yes but he still sports a career .801 OPS vs RHP and at worst a league average defender at 2B. Could be an option until Travis is ready since no one wants Izturis and likely there's no big spending there.
  4. How do you justify that Berti > Goins at the MLB level at the plate based on 1 season of AA ball? Not to mention you're suggesting he has equal defensive skills? Goins has better minor league stats across the board as a better comparative and is a proven hot glove at 2B in the majors.
  5. We are talking about the BP, I'm not saying they shouldn't get a front of the rotation starter. Others were asking for free agent names for BP pick ups. Neshek & Villanueva are guys I like.
  6. To that I say bring back Pat Hentgen to manage it.
  7. I like the idea of Loup vs LHP and picking up Pat Neshek vs RHP. Any chance Villanueva would come back? Always liked him over Redmond as a long arm option and his FIP has dropped since leaving. He's a very capable depth starter if injuries peak their ugly head as well.
  8. I don't doubt that they've made an offer but take it with a grain of salt until a legitimate source confirms they are finalizing an actual deal.
  9. This board got reenergized with krypton pretty quickly.
  10. We traded Gose for Travis for 2B already. Pretty sure him & Izturis will battle it out for 2B and Travis will be our starter by midseason.
  11. Aoki seems like a really good bottom of the order LH bat right now. His .353 career OBP would just be a nice second leadoff man for this team, half the cost of Cabrera and a better overall defensive player.
  12. 3/39 is a little more enticing for him now than before though and should stiill have money left over.
  13. Reyes Cabrera Bautista Donaldson Encarnacion Martin Navarro/Smoak Izturis/Travis Pompey ?
  14. This offseason could end up getting me more excited about the upcoming season than ever before.
  15. Disagree... Depends on who the ace is and that 5th reliever would be bumped to the pen not off the roster to preserve some value and fill a hole. A proven ace over JA Happ is a large upgrade.
  16. Strasberg. If he ever creeps up to the 250IP range he'll come close.
  17. Red Sox finished 12 games behind the Jays, I'd stop worrying about what they are doing. They have frogs to leap while we are just trying to find ways to add 1 extra win each month.
  18. I would have been ok with selling off if that was the collective decision. However, AA has shown up this off season and looks to be going for it again and at this stage one can only hope he has the balls to upgrade mid season if they are in playoff contention again.
  19. My wife suggested Cole, I said how about Colby... I later hinted to my parents we're naming him after a young Jay's player who's got some potential. My dad was like "Oh I definitely know who it is." he whispers to me "Can't wait to meet Brett". Brett would have been good.
  20. At my 2yr old son's swimming lessons today, I met another guy who named their son Colby just as I did. It was a weird conversation about naming them after Rasmus, followed by cricket sounds.
  21. Isn't he a right fielder? Has he ever played left field (Not saying he couldn't but..)
  22. That is much different than having no limits on payroll. That's just being crafty with contracts in order to add more players within a budget... I don't doubt they will add another solid FA or two as they have room within their budget to do it but to assume it's because of Roger's willingness to win and give golden tickets to buy anything they'd like is nonsense.
  23. Well sure I get that but McCowan is giving an opinion, a thought, a 'sense' of what he feels is happening. There's no truth or fact about it, it's less than a rumour. The fact though is that AA worked harder than ever to land Martin and he was their #1 target and the most important piece they decided they had to land. The fact that they backloaded the contract so hard tells us that for 2015 there is not an unlimited budget. I take common sense over either.
