    I would rather see how he looks at the end of this season before negotiating a deal that even approaches that. For one thing, players typically perform better in a contract year. For another thing, he is getting older and this coming season will help predict the next couple of years. Finally, if the jays are stinking it up near the trade deadline we might be able to move him for prospects.

    This is kind of mind boggling if true... even if the Reds ate virtually all of his salary, he still isnt worth a healthy saunders and if saunders isnt healthy, then he doesnt pass his physical and the trade doesnt happen.

    It is interesting that all 50 bills show the Prime Minister Borden side of the bill instead of the discovery of insulin side. My theories: a) Tercet doesnt want to bring attention to the fact that his cat may have diabetes. Tercet is a bank robber or money launderer and does not want to show the serial numbers located on the insulin side. c) Tercet has the same haircut as Borden and or Tercet thinks Borden is sexy.

    While not someone you would want starting at second base for a full season, he did have value as a player. From a front office perspective he was amazing value. Someone that cost $200,000, that you dont play everyday, but fans come to see him and buy his jersey. And sure he takes a 25 man roster spot, but who would we have replaced him with last year? Oh right Pennington. Yeah I hope we can replace him with someone better, but as a fan I enjoyed watching him play. His home run is in my top 10 jays' home runs of the last few years.     This is exactly what we needed: surplus in the outfield with Bautista, Pillar, Pompey, Saunders, Revere... Colabello (please shoot me in the f***ing face if that happens again). For a above average bullpen piece.

    For me, what makes Griffey stand out when compared to the likes of Bonds, McGuire, Pettite, Clemmens and so on is the way that his skills naturally eroded over time. Whereas Bonds for example has his best seasons from age 37-41. What is common between Griffey and Bonds is that they were both natural Bo Jackson type athletes (good at everything), the difference is that Bonds wasnt satisfied with that.

    The more i think about it the happier I am with this deal .... as long as the BP is solidified. Worst case scenario would have been over spending on a dud for 5 years, with Happ we avoid that in more ways than one.

    hmmm... Im guessing we make a move for a reliever or two, and possibly trade some of the redundant assets (looking at you outfield) for prospects. I doubt we see any big moves this offseason.

    I guess it just adds to my budding opinion that if you have 2 roster spots to fill, signing a (2x)war pitcher is less valuable than 2 (x)war pitchers. Risk of injury being the foremost consideration.

    So lets say you need to fill 2 roster spots and hope to get 2 WAR worth of pitching (keeping #s small to keep the example simple). You can sign a 2 WAR FA at 18 million and fill the other spot with a replacement level at $500k. Or you sign two 1 WAR FA at 9 million each. Save $500,000?
