  1. I liked him but I don't see it happening or him being successful. He would make a decent infield coach and maybe after a few years he could graduate to manager. I just don't see a non-catcher in the role without coaching experience. Take a look at the White Sox string of infielder managers: Ozzie Guillen coached a few years before he managed, won a series in 2005 and had decent record... then won 69 games for the marlins. He was followed up with Ventura who had no experience and never had a winning season. Not saying it is impossible to find a good former infielder who knows the game and is good with players but I would rather a former catcher or someone more seasoned.
  2. why waste the 20mil? This team isn't competing for a few years in the best case scenario... We are better off fielding a couple years worth of replacement level players.
  3. Yet his K% is better than a good chunk of our hitters, granted there have been a lot of injuries but we cant forget he is a rookie that we traded for next to nothing: Maile Granderson Donaldson Grichuck Martin Smoak All have worse K rates and at the end of the day his OPS, WAR and WRC+ speak for themselves.
  4. Im turning on the TV but not supper excited about the games ive been watching. The Shatkins era feels like Gord Ash all over again to me. Trading for and retaining players past their prime as a cheap way to (if you get really lucky) sneak into wildcard contention makes for boring baseball and more often than not; 75 win seasons. Add to that injuries for your aging and overworked rosters and you end up with a new spring-training looking lineup every night.... which would be fine if I had interest in some of the 3rd string backups that make that lineup, but I simply don't. Sigh.
  5. Great pitching tonight whatever the end result.
  6. Hardest hitting team in MLB... I expect probably the softest throwing too
  7. This pretty much sums up my hopes for the season: week 1: Get a wildcard spot week 3: Take the division away from the Red Sox Last week: Finish with a +.500 record This week: Finish ahead of the Orioles (yeah its a pride thing over a pick)
  8. Wow... this season is going to s***. Cant be doing that against the red sox.
  9. May is the new April.... this has been one hell of a s***** month. Also, I'm a little skeptical that this is really an injury.
  10. So he wants to take the mound in an MLB game without throwing a pitch in the minors? If he is that f***ing dumb send him down and tell him he has been traded to an expansion team.
  11. If he agrees to be sent down I'm all for it
  12. bases loaded none out is just too good to be true
  13. Try reading that post outloud in a sarcastic tone... things would have to get pretty f***ing bad for Urshela to see any big league playing time this season.
  14. Blue jays picked up Gio Urshela for cash/player to be named from Cleveland. Edit: this might end those bring up vladd dreams for a bit.
  15. that was hit too hard for a double
  16. Hopefully that fan realizes she cost us a run.
  17. So Hernandez playing for the cycle again... if he hits a double next AB I'm going to be pissed (except for the fact he got a hit obviously)
  18. There should be big f***ing signs on the seats for people close to the field.
  19. Omg how are people still doing that.
  20. This is more or less correct. That a complainant alleges an offence occurred is normally enough for an arrest. The police need reasonable and probable grounds to make an arrest. However, post-arrest and before a charging information is laid before a Judge it is usually subjected to Crown Prosecutor approval. Normally, when someone is arrested and released on a promise to appear, the Crown Prosecutor's office has yet to see the file. That is in a normal case however in a high profile case the police may seek a Crown opinion in advance.
  21. I'm going to suggest reserving judgement until the facts are on the record. Assault in is broadly defined in Canada. Unwanted physical contact can be assault (ie: pushing, punching, kicking, biting etc.) but so is simply raising your hand like you are intending to slap someone in a threatening manner or grabbing something out of someone's hand. Further, intent can be transferred. For example: a drunk patron at a bar takes a swing at the guy who spilled his drink on him only to miss and hit his own girlfriend.
  22. In domestic assault charges it is routine for investigators to do a K.G.B statement (video recorded under oath) with the complainant in the early stages. If the complainant has a change of heart the Crown can proceed without his/her consent with that video in their back pocket. If at trial they become an adverse witness the video is played and the Judge can accept the earlier "testimony" as evidence. Even before this occurs, the complainant can be threatened with criminal charges including public mischief, perjury, and obstruction of justice to compel cooperation (actually laying the charges is something altogether different). Witnesses that fail to appear after a summons has issued can be the subject of a warrant (usually endorsed) and a refusal to answer questions can result in contempt of court charges. In short, reluctant complainants are not a bar to conviction. I would add that the days of just dropping charges or issuing peace bonds are nearing extinction.
