    That is what i assumed initially but i started thinking it might be more for a premium position. My next next question is whether the 9 million/war that Shapiro uses is for SP FA is accounts for the replacement cost of filling the roster spot?

    Shapiro probably sees this trade as a 13 million dollar savings for 2016. To me it is a subtle hint that the FO doesnt favor the free agent market.

    I wonder what he could have done if he was used differently. He recall him pitching well in a couple tight spots. That said, Cecil is better used in that roll.

    Why would he reject it? He almost retired this year so he would be looking for a 1 year contract. No one is going to pay him more than 15.8 million and give up a pick... he knows that.

    I believe his departure had more to do with perceived limits on his authority as GM than anything else. It appears that Shapiro wants more to do with the team than Beaston who probably cared more about the type of hotdogs being sold in concessions than the actual team.

    I agree that threads like this shouldnt be merged into generic threads like offseason. I mean arguably, everything could be merged into that one thread since the season is over and all current discussion revolves around the offseason. With respect to the options, no surprise at all. Dicky may have been a question mark back in July, but his play in the last half earned him a cheap option.
