  1. wonder what Deck has done with the $2m signing bonus
  2. I hear ya Sammy, wins are all that matters at the end of the day... I guess we're different - like to scoreboard watch & pull up the mlb app every so often, much to the chagrin of the g/f
  3. haha Jonn, thinking same thing...
  4. gotta give credit to the jays for keeping it close...how awesome is it to scoreboard watch every day?!
  5. Buehrle's still feeling good after Gibby again talked about him and the maestro as real competitors...
  6. actually, like maestro though with a capital M for more effect he really is a maestro out there with his arsenal
  7. seriously and Gibbons was gushing about his competitiveness... baseball gods/blue jays...protect that arm please!
  8. yeah, I can see AA being gun shy after how those 2 contracts turned out... and with a much larger payroll then say the Rays, AA can be patient and wait & see...don't think he's shy - if a guy performs, he'll get paid, if he doesn't (ie. Rasmus), comfortable letting a player walk... AA uses the words "get more information" all the time... with Hutch & Stro, the question is not talent imo but durability
  9. that's the crazy thing with Dickey...I could watch only b/c the guy literally is 50/50 out there and could turn in a great performance... btw, love Stro show as a nickname...I heard his I/v after the game last night & he talked about how he's now throwing a sinker and he just kinda learned it/added to his repertoire and i'm thinking, holy hayzeus, who is this guy?!
  10. geez, not bad for Rajai, 2 year $10M contract at ages 33/34...
  11. be interesting in the off-season if this team can compete/make the playoffs & most likely the team won't be blown up... melk - what to do cecil - arb eligible - making $1.3m this year Francisco - making $1.35M - arb eligible - what to do Happ - $5.2M now; $6.7M club option - what to do casey - making $4M - resign & how much? morrow - $8M current; $10M club option - whether picked up Colby - currently $7M; resign or walk Santos - current $3.75M; buyout b/w Happ, Morrow, Colby, Santos - that's about $22M of payroll (about $1.75M for buyouts) that could be used elsewhere...ie. say $4m more for Melk, bit more for Cecil & Casey, bit more for Juan if that's the route AA goes...plus bunch of arb players...still plenty left over for a solid player and then 2015, Buehrle's $19M comes off, Romero's $7.5M, Dickey club option, Navarro $5M... there is plenty of light moving forward imo so long as the jays can legitimately compete for a playoff spot & play meaningful baseball in September
  12. yeah, that's a solid 4 some...and Gose covers ALOT of field out there making the overall outfield D better especially with 2 corner OF's in their 30's... what's the cost? - $1.2M, $0.8M, $14M and $10-$14M = $26-$30M for the outfield
  13. whoever's hottest going in
  14. they are only 4.5 games away from a wildcard notwithstanding a disastrous start to the season...quite remarkable... and the team isn't playing out of its mind - imo, they're playing to their capabilities and the way Friedman/Maddon thought they'd play like since they resigned Loney, brought in Balfour, kept Price, etc... anywho, all just an opinion, we'll see which way the wind blows...should be a very interesting week ahead!
  15. barring a disastrous week ahead, rays are going for it imo...i'll be shocked if they trade major pieces...
  16. Dickie was pissed Melky didn't catch the first hit... Will prob blame the inning on Cabrera in his mind
  17. Jays r close to the brink IMO Season can really go downhill next month & really out of a playoff spot I think most would in that case welcome a blow up & start over, prob not with AA at the helm
  18. not disagreeing with you - there is merit in cloak & dagger. but the issue of whether AA can add payroll goes back to the off-season...it's gotten to the point where some on this board believe the writing is on the wall for AA...
  19. i get that - Rogers/Beest/AA could be all about cloak & dagger & all are on the same page. or it may be he in fact cannot.
  20. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2014/07/anthopoulos-on-payroll-trade-deadline-injuries.html doesn't even answer the question... "...Anthopoulos says he has the freedom to make the necessary moves to keep the Blue Jays in the playoff hunt. “I don’t have any doubt that we have the ability to add players. How that gets done, we can always be creative, but I’ll say this: we have a very healthy payroll, we have a very strong payroll.“ wtf is that? don't doubt he can add players? the creative part likely implies he can't add payroll... "...I don’t see any reason we’re not going to be able to add players at the trade deadline if we can line up in terms of talent.“ not sure why he needed to answer that way...either it's a yes he can add to payroll or not... of course his caveat - jays have always kept payroll projections in house...
  21. It's possible as Moog suggested this is about, in my words, cloak & dagger... That's why this trade deadline will be interesting & may shed colour on whether Rogers has in fact turned off the taps... Which is stupid if the case...u cannot look at payroll in a vacuum - yes $140m is pretty good (I wonder how much the tv deal would bring the jays & thus what payroll would be if Rogers did not own the team) but when the team is close to a playoff spot & the fan base has suffered Long enough (what did I hear, been about 14 years since the jays were this close to a playoff spot at the all-star break), and on top of that the team desperately needs a reinforcement, adding payroll is a no brainer. A free agent after this season, $3-$6M left in a players salary...I mean, this is sad if this is even an issue for AA, trusted or not by Rogers.
  22. I deserve that kingkat...point made
  23. yep, that's wrong, my mistake http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paul_Beeston though he's been with the jays since forever with a break in between as mlb pres...not sure what he did b/w 2002-2008 before becoming pres again in 2009... he's essentially been with the jays since 1976 including the first employee...he's on the level of excellence... given my terrible assumption was incorrect , I don't see the Beest going anywhere... what's interesting then is the Beest is a huge fan of AA...
  24. if this team legitimately competes for a playoff spot, AA/Beest may get one more crack at the can. If they make the playoffs, they should as well naturally. but if this team does not compete for a playoff spot & falters down the stretch, then the Beest/AA/Gibby are all likely fair game from Rogers perspective... and not getting rid of the Beest is unacceptable imo when he's been the main constant for 20+ years...at some point, the Beest has to be held accountable as well, justified or otherwise...
