    not sure I understand this other than they all see the writing on the wall (Gibbons will be gone within 2 years and might as well make extra $'s) and front office doesn't want to be faced with a situation of jays winning & having to terminate/not renew Gibby to avoid the rollover...now, worst case, front office can just let the contract expire... subtle difference (active step vs no step required) but could be the viewpoint Atkins/Shapiro had in mind...easier from a media relations standpoint to let the contract expire worst case... any case, it's a win for both sides if the above is true

    Here's hoping Rogers will take action soon if this keeps up - I'd can both gibby & AA together

    winning will likely dictate what happens here. My guesses: a) could easily see the jays >10 games below .500 at which point serious thought must go into Gibby/AA getting the axe & the new GM trading at least one or both of Bautista/Edwin. On my end, would prefer Bautista gone as well as perhaps Buerhle, Dickey and Navarro jays stay around +/- 5 games of .500 in which case we get the team going for it. No idea which way Rogers will go with AA. c) jays +5 games above .500, they're legitimately competing for a playoff spot come August/September and they've earned the right to stay together as a group - likely heading into next year as well. AA keeps his job. baseball is funny - I think (a) is gonna happen but odds are ( will happen. Want (a) or © to happen so at least there's a definitive sense of direction vs. being lost in no man's land with (.

    haha, Martin did frame that amazingly well...it was a ball however but def made it look like a strike Smoak - he's got potential - everyone says that - we'll see if he figures it out - but do like him at first for sure for his defence

    I'm sure there's a basic answer to this - why did the league schedule a day off Tuesday? I've seen this in previous season(s) as well.

    Gibbons will run through a wall for AA for giving him this opportunity. And Gibby is AA's guy b/c he'll do what he wants.

    didn't expect this & if based solely on performance, then I was def wrong in thinking he'd be back in the bullpen this year performing well.

    problem is, assuming Itzuris can play, what to do with him? can't see AA wasting $3M but which is what he perhaps should be doing.

    Goins is the best option to backup Reyes on days-off & when Reyes DH's...don't mind Goins making the team in a utility role and perhaps even battle for the everyday job at 2nd assuming his hitting is ok.

    my sense is part of the reason Sanchez is locked as a starter is the hope he'll pitch decent enough this year & will be locked in as a starter for 2016, along with Stroman, Hutchison and probably Norris. That's pretty exciting if it all works out.

    I could understand if the D-Backs front office set very low expectations since, well, they sucked last year. But to come out & say this team is aiming for .500 or greater & then stating they're not looking to upgrade the catching spot doesn't make any sense. Unless of course, Gosewich performs & Stewart looks pretty smart. That's a decent back 3 in Perez, Ziegler & Perez and Stewart probably views the D-Backs better with those 3 than only 2 and Navarro. Or he'll look foolish but only b/c of his win now comments. If he stuck to no expectations, then stick with Gosewich and no one cares.

    fair enough. But can you imagine the scenario where the jays send him to buffalo instead of helping the big league club? I don't. The question this spring training is not if Sanchez will make the big league roster but whether it's as a starter or out of the bullpen. Assuming he's already made the big league roster, imo, the best spot for him to work on his command/mechanics/repertoire is out of the bullpen vs. the pressures of being a starter.

    I should add what's implied - the jays need to win & that's part of the equation why Sanchez will stay with the big club.

    Sanchez isn't going to Buffalo. I'm not sure what's ultimately in his best interests right now. End of the day, Jays view him as a starter & want to, at some point, give him a chance of getting out there every 5th day. But is it in his best interests to slot him in as the #5 right now? My sense is probably not & he could use more seasoning and development time out of the bullpen. Bullpen this year & legitimate shot at a rotation spot 2016 is imo how to handle Sanchez.

    first thing I thought after reading Gibby said he might go with 3 LHP's if Cecil closes... he makes $2.5M & free agent after this year & ok ERA past 3 years

    don't see Cahill as an option for AA since his salary is $12M this year though there are team options for next 2 seasons with minimal $$ buyout.
