  1. 2018 - grass http://www.calgaryherald.com/sports/Blue+Jays+Anthopoulos+says+Rogers+Centre+turf+blame+injuries/10101720/story.html 2015-2017 - refurbishing the current AstroTurf by replacing the infill layer in order to soften the turf http://www.bluebirdbanter.com/2014/2/5/5380620/new-artificial-turf-for-rogers-centre-in-2015-blue-jays-to-play-on
  2. my first reaction was Howarth has/was given the green light to say what he did. Dickey likely has a compassionate fan base...as does Howarth. but I don't know if this is atypical Howarth after the season is done. If it is, might be Dickey is legitimately on the block
  3. if the jays are legit contenders, AA would likely make his move for an Ace at or near the trade deadline...
  4. good point about WACC RA, i remember that from undergrad finance courses! And without any further investigation, makes sense. whatever on backloading Martin - AA didn't mortgage the future - jays will have enough room down the road & it's a great move right now - Martin could get hurt on day 1 and this would still be considered a great move by AA in my books.
  5. Aoki for many reasons - jays need grind it out types in their lineup & Aoki is one. Don't need to platoon him, great approach, great defense...and can take over the #1 spot when Reyes goes down with injury or needs a day off. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2014/11/free-agent-profile-nori-aoki.html rumour is he wants 3 years but for 2 years, $16M, i'd do it. I don't see Martin as a #2 in the lineup at all. Reyes Aoki JB EE DH/Martin Martin/DH Lawrie 2B Pompey
  6. they would've been fine but for their starting staff being depleted early on in the season which set them back the entire year
  7. that was the old Martin but seriously, good point
  8. interesting to see how he does without Martin as his catcher, assuming Martin doesn't resign
  9. I hear ya, but if you can overpay Drew, say $6M, you can get what Lowrie does & only as a 1 year stop-gap
  10. true shortstops don't change positions
  11. it's baseball off-season...i'm bored & wanted the 2015 season to start yesterday...that said, AA, if you don't get a legit LF, i'm not going to any home games
  12. Martin - $15M, Aoki - $8M = $23M....Trade Navarro bring back say $2M in salary - $20M add on + lose 1st rounder (while getting 1 for Melk) & ideally, still need a legit 2B Lowrie - $10M, Aoki - $8m = $18M add on & 2 1st rounders Melk - $14M, Lowrie - $10M = $24M add on & keep 1st rounder I like option 1 b/c Martin is one of those difference makers imo...but option 2 isn't bad - much better defense but perhaps not enough bite throughout the lineup...option #2 with Martin would be a dream but that's say $33M of add on salary (well, $25M taking away Melk's $8M)... all that said, don't see AA pulling the trigger on Lowrie for multiple years since his boy Devo is waiting in the wings at 2B.... heck, there's word of Drew getting only $4M...heck, i'd try to overpay him as a 1 year stop-gap....so Drew, Aoki & Martin = say $22M in add on salary...
  13. ARod for Reyes & the Yanks paying a bunch of ARod's salary...I still wouldn't do it
  14. Reyes would pout, then cry, then pout. He ain't moving from SS. He looks a lot better at short (or perhaps we just don't notice his limited range) when that stud of a 3B defensively Lawrie is next to him. AA has said he wants that DH spot open to give guys a day off so that's why I don't see AA having any interest in Morales.
  15. leaving aside Boras, Drew on the cheap would be great for this team & will fill in when Reyes goes down...put him in the 8th spot & without much expectations & he's a good pro guy to have...terrible year last year but tough when you miss how much time b/c of the contract issue & his timing was off the entire year...and avoids the issue of trading (likely pitching) for a legit 2B... Reyes Cabrera/Aoki Bautista Edwin DH Martin Drew Lawrie Pompey
  16. I thought Aoki is projected to demand 2 years, $16M? I like Aoki - cheaper, better defense, grinds out at bats, patient, gets on base, out him in the two spot & can fill #1 when Reyes gets hurt...with home run power from JB, EE - Aoki makes more sense if the jays get Atleast one more bat ie Martin
  17. Ugh lineup. I could live with whoever they plug in at 2nd if AA can shore up LF and sign Martin. If he doesn't sign Martin, AA best be getting both a legit LF & 2B.
  18. I was down on Happ too...but it seems he's dealt with his issue of not being aggressive...now we're seeing more fastballs & less trying to paint the corner with every pitch...i'd still trade him if the return was decent ie. in a package for Kendrick though that likely ain't happening...but if no deal is out there worth taking, keep him & he'll be fine imo...whether or not the jays sign him is another issue - I think Happ will be seeking as much $$'s and years as he can & I think that'll be out of the jays price range, especially factoring in the LHP's coming up or expected to.
  19. what part(s) is unrealistic/remote chance of occurring?
  20. Agreed - but he can salvage a lot with good signings ie Martin & IMO Aoki to balance out the lineup, improve defensively & thus plug some holes while bringing in winners & character guys.
  21. Agreed about Martin. And I gotta think he would enjoy the prospect of catching 4 days & maybe DHing every 5th day.
  22. Def Pompey as the starter for 2015... Don't think anyone has any issues with this - just that AA needs to get a legit Major League LF. Aoki - 2 years, $16M - I wouldn't think twice. Relatively low risk - only 2 years. Sign Martin, trade Navarro & somehow get a legit major league 2B - ie Kendrick Happ for Kendrick makes sense as the main pieces in a deal - Happ will be seeking a long contract & high $ value come next offseason - I don't see Happ being resigned with other LF prospects knocking on the door. Reyes Aoki Bautista Encarnacion Martin Kendrick Lawrie Pompey And stick the DH somewhere in there. That's a balanced lineup & all 3 of JB, EE & Martin can hit right handed pitching.
  23. Headley ain't coming to tdot IMO, he doesn't seem the type to come here on his own volition. And I'm likely not attending any games next year with that OF.
  24. imo, he's worth $15M per year, whether or not he's gonna get 5 years is the question. Some day, some Toronto GM is gonna need to take a risk with a free agent signing.
