  1. Type B or C prospect & jays take on remainder of his salary Possible injury, performance, expiring, wouldn't give up much more... Obv padres would only do it bc nothing else/better is being offered... Padres incentive is to wait since they'll prob get that deal worst case near the deadline by some team & might aa well hold out & try to get more... Reality is Jays are desperate & Headley injured or otherwise Atleast has potential for upside other options don't -
  2. the writing has been on the wall for AA to get an everyday right handed 2nd baseman especially with this depleted lineup ... Full & healthy lineup, you can stick Tolleson or Kawasaki in there - but this team is in desperate need of an infusion of offense... It is outright gambling if AA prefers to wait out a better deal vs to move right now...this is not the case of guys just not playing well & having a rough patch as a team... 2 games out & can easily be 7 by the all star game - angels & rays are both playing well
  3. leaffie, that's a good point...I haven't watched all the games but overall, the jays have hung around in games...it's not for a lack of trying/competing though I do think they could/should have squeezed out 3-4 more wins...but they are desperately trying to win ball games & they just don't have enough in that lineup right now & what they do have is somewhat the walking injured...to even have a hope now, let alone after the all-star break, the jays need a trade or 2 for some bats in that lineup... not recommending AA break the bank on prospects but as flawed as this team is, they've got a real shot to play meaningful baseball in August/September...but not without 1-2 more bats and to end once for and all that crap revolving door in the infield...
  4. lol the problem with that line of Wilner thinking is it ignores reality of what is actually going on - this team is hurt, losing and unable to squeak out 3-4 more wins the last 27 games...and imo, when the tide gets rough, this team hasn't been able to squeak out a few more wins...and really, reading the lineup these days, I can't blame Gibby... The O's were something like 7-14 b/w May 11-31st before really turning it around...jays are something like 9-18 since June 6th win against cardinals... from an O's form, part of a post dated May 27th: "For us, you know, it was looking up with the pitching going on a roll, but the offense never clicked during that span. Now Tillman and Ubaldo are struggling again and it's been tough for us to hold a lead. Fortunately, the offense is a little more consistent lately. Tough to call it. It all hinges on Tillman and Ubaldo, IMO. If those guys are giving us quality starts, we're in business. Especially now that we've figured out the closer. I'd like to see our bullpen be a little bit less in flux. Brach/Guilmet/MacFarland - that whole thing needs to stabilize." Without further info, the distinction b/w the O's & Jays rough stretch is consistency (O's) vs. injuries/consistency (jays) but mostly injuries imo in respect of the position players, ergo offense and also, stating the obvious again, the failure of AA to address a full-time 2nd basement in the off-season. Question is will the O's, other than Wieters, remain healthy moving forward? So far, they've mostly avoided the injury bug... The O's also have essentially played 16 position players this year with #16 by games played being Hundley with 17 games. #'s 17-25 have played a total of 28 games. #17 in games played for the O's has only played 4 games. If we exclude pitchers, of the 28 games, only 7 games by other position players (hundley & weeks). The Jays on the other hand have at #16 Diaz with 23 games...and from #17-#22, the jays other position players (excluding pitchers) have played in 67 games. I know the above is not necessary to reach the conclusion the jays have not only had injuries but also the obvious infield issue with a # of minor leaguers filling in... the bright side of this is there is hope - that the O's will have inevitable injuries, that the jays trade for a 2nd/3rd baseman who can stop the revolving door of minor league replacements & the walking injured will be strong after the all-star break... imo, AA needs to get a right handed (or switch) bat from a 2nd/3rd baseman asap...that's the first thing he needs to do imo and quick...
  5. something like 9-18 since home win vs cardinals June 6th... jays definitely need some sort of boost...stating the obvious but traditional lineup of: reyes Cabrera bautista Encarnacion Lind Navarro Lawrie Rasmus is pretty good but few important guys are banged up - easy to see jays definitely need a right handed bat moving forward via trade to play 2nd/3rd...headley being a switch hitter with solid D is imo the preferable option balanced with cost to acquire... the problem for AA is trading after the all-star break may cost the team a few wins in the meantime...jays need an infusion right now & while AA would prefer to make a trade when the jays are playing well to increase some leverage, things could get even worse as the jays approach the deadline...
  6. b/w Prado & Beltre, Headley would likely come the cheapest...jays should only do it for a type B or Type B & C prospect... 2 more weeks & the trading scene will heat up...
  7. what would Beltre cost? can't imagine Rangers would go for it just for a salary dump & type B prospects in return...
  8. didn't see the video till now...what a throw.... see the umps? that was great - 3rd base ump ran down the line, home plate ump running to 3rd & 1st base ump covered home in time...great all around...
  9. sweep vs mariners really helped the yanks...hopefully A's rebound today/tomorrow... big win yesterday...jays need to keep grinding... Yanks - next 4 series against division rivals with 2 against jays Red Sox - of next 4 series, only 1 against division rivals Orioles - of next 4 series, 2 against division rivals jays - of next 4 series, 2 against division rivals (both against yanks)
  10. i'm surprised there's no World Cup thread...or is this a strictly baseball forum?!
  11. G-snarls, impressed by the spurs (obviously)...such a high level of play and deep roster...would love to see Duncan win & play another year or two...looks great out there...
  12. haven't watched all the games recently but from what I've seen, lineup is seeing a bunch more breaking balls & the lineup overall is swinging at out of the strike zone pitches...I am not seeing that willingness to lay off/take a walk... without being able to pinpoint exactly what change pitchers/teams have recently made, my sense is it is now adjustment time for the overall lineup...work counts, take balls, take walks, etc... overall, pitching has been decent & kept teams in the game...offence can't expect starters to always keep the game 0-0 or 1-0/2-0...
  13. if this is to try to get him to the majors, ugh...that's just stupid...
  14. maybe a potential trade partner said they wanna see him at Triple A to see how he performs...or maybe that sort of that doesn't go on behind the scenes b/w GM's...
  15. 9 hits but 3 runs, 0 walks...gave the team a chance to win... what's up with the offence or lack thereof?!
  16. I've been wrong on Happ past 5-6 starts...ever since Kratz has become his catcher...he pitches 92-93mph so has decent velocity...if he can locate, he can get you to the 6th/7th and give the team a chance to win...a solid #5 if he keeps it up...we're all waiting for him to get back to old Happ so he's gotta keep showing the consistency
  17. wish the jays did the 'little' things more consistently like they did earlier in the season... ugh, watching the replay of the hit by pitch...brutal call
  18. dylan, that thought went through my mind...expectations go up = this team thinks it's more than it is?
  19. Gose looks more dangerous as a hitter in his bunting pose than in his regular stance...
  20. when it rain it pours...bad decision by Pillar...gotta be damn sure in that situation
