The Jays do seem to have good strength and conditioning programs set up in the minors, or it's a by-product of who they draft.
Remember when Osuna was signed and his potential was limited because of his poor conditioning and bad body?
Yep, it's just not their MO and anyone expecting us to making any significant and meaningful additions to the team that would require prospects is fooling themselves.
My opinion of course.
I get what you're saying, and it could very well be the case, but I hate that this could be the mindset of the FO. Essentially waiting the market out and settling for whatever is left....the table scraps....rather than getting who you want and who you know will move the needle.
The offseason could very well turn around and optimism might reign again but after everything that was said to raise expectations this seems like a case of actions speaking much louder than words.
I don't know man, it feels to me that they want nothing to do with Jose.
After two straight ALCS appearances and some core still very much intact it doesn't feel much like this team is doing a whole lot to get better and take the next step. It seems awfully disingenuous after the FO talked about the incredible fan support leading to increased spending.
I'm much in favour of not sacrificing the farm to prolong this window so that means they'd have to spend, which they seem very reluctant to do. Instead we debate how much a win is worth and how we can bring in 1 WAR guys to supply surplus value.
One thing is for sure, AA would have been ROASTED had he been at the helm for this offseason so far.
Shatkins must be waiting for the market to develop and settle before they do anything further. We've undeniably taken steps back this offseason thus far.
I know, I know, 45 days or whatever it is until spring training starts but as of now our outfield is Pillar, Upton/Carrera/Pompey and potentially Pearce.
Well, they bought Moncada. Anyone could have had him really, all it cost was $.
The Sox, Yankees, etc are always in a prospect rich position because they have ownership that spends heavily.
And here we are salivating over Steve Pearce.
I think the comments his agent made about the Jays "showing him the most love" were very likely posturing and angling to squeeze every last dollar out of other potential suitors. Any time an agent goes to the media with any comments on a free agent it's safe to assume it's calculated and for the purpose of advancing their clients position and earning potential.
Not that I'm comparing, because that'd be dumb, but I recall hearing the same things about Anthony Rizzo when he was coming up.
Brett Wallace too. Let's hope Tellez is more Rizzo than Wallace.
How so? He has been really consistent with that call all night and truthfully the majority have been strikes anyway.
It's on the Jays for not adjusting accordingly.
31 BBs versus 30 K's, 15 SBs, and won't turn 18 until March next year.
This could be the first real impact bat to come out of our system in a long time. Premature, of course, but it's exciting at the same time.
IF he has a fracture you're looking a return in mid to late September. Huge IF of course but that doesn't give him much time to get his timing back before a hopeful playoffs.
Davis is something like 2-20 against Cecil and looked ridiculous against him the other night.
Not to say that I don't trust Osuna, but Cecil is your best weapon against him here.
Gibby on the phone to the BP?
Didn't like the look of Sanchez shaking his hand a couple of times at the end of last inning. He didn't seem to wipe it off, which indicates those pitches didn't slip.
