    We’re going to hover around .500 and within striking distance of a WC spot and the Jays will end up doing a bit of tinkering on the fringes of the roster instead of doing what needs to be done. We are very clearly not a contender and not having the organizational courage to see that and act upon it will prolong the Jays return to being legit contenders.

    The Jays are 26th in MLB for draft pick WAR over the last 10 years - and pretty much all of our WAR has been from Manoah. Our much hyped core has somehow all regressed substantially during what should be their prime and the farm is now near the bottom for top specs. What has happened during this tenure to drafting and development? It has been an absolutely s*** show.

    Without a doubt, they should not be in charge of this rebuild/retool. When Shapiro and Atkins took over their sales pitch was heavily centered on creating an organization that is a sustainable “winner” with waves of talent to supplement the roster. Almost 10 years later and there have been no “waves of talent” of note, the MLB product is painfully boring and not in contention, and the highly touted investment in “state of the art” training and development facilities in Dunedin has yet to show any tangible results. They’ve failed at everything they set out to do, except for renovating the dome.

    The right move for this organization come trade deadline would be a full fire sale but I have no expectation that Rogers would permit that after the cost of renovations and their need for a return on that investment. We’re up against the cap with no clear path to improving this offense and a “generational talent” that can’t seem to hit anything but singles. Tear it down to the studs and maybe the Jays can be the exciting and up and coming team again within 2-3 years. Tinker on the edges of the roster and we’re looking at more of this brand of baseball.

    The offense takes the L here and there are no real signs that it’ll turn around.

    Danny Jansen should get us a pretty decent return at the trade deadline.

    This series has the potential of being ugly from a fan reaction standpoint. The Jays struggling mightily to score runs all season long, in a year where the team opted to double down on “the core” when that core has inarguably never looked worse. Against an absolute offensive juggernaut who has stars that play like stars, with their top prize from the offseason, where we had plan A and then straight to plan D. We could hear a lot of displeasure if the Jays don’t look like a competitor.

    I’d rather see Horowitz in this lineup over Vladdy at this point. I haven’t looked at the stats but it feels like his groundball rate is higher than it has ever been.

    16 innings and counting for Kooch in 2024 and the Jays have yet to get him 1 run.

    Springer, Vlad, Bo, Gausman. Clear the deck and get this s*** going since it’s clear that’s where it’s headed. Can’t have Atkins in charge though, he has to be the first one out the door.

    Completely uninspired baseball to watch. Same s*** for 170 games and counting. Let’s start the re-tool/rebuild early. Our “generational talent” is nothing more than better than average.

    If the Jays have Bo, or Vlad, on this roster entering 2025 without an extension it’s another failure by the front office. Optically it’ll be rough to justify to the fanbase if you’re trading either - and, as we all know, the Jays are not good at PR - but what are the options? You have to get the biggest return possible and that’s an offseason trade rather than mid season. Trade one, or both, and put all your cards in on a Soto?

    I can’t foresee the Jays entering the 2025 season with Vlad and Bo unsigned in their free agent walk years. How many in-season contract extensions are ever signed? A retool/restock could happen pretty quickly given the talent on the roster but does the FO have the balls to do it?

    With Schneider likely fighting for ABs, and Horowitz, Clement, Martinez and Palmegiani all knocking on the door you have to wonder how the logjam is going to get cleared. Time to move on from Espinal at the very least.

    A Tiedemann/Rodriguez piggy back in the rotation kind of makes sense given the innings restrictions both will be under this year.

    Shatkins and this organization really painted themselves into a corner here - can you imagine the fan reception to Bellinger being the big off-season acquisition at 8/180+? With the renovations, impending fan apathy, and 5 year commitments for premium seating they cannot afford to do anything less than Ohtani or Soto.

    This loss, like so many this year, is on the offence. This is what the Jays have been all year.
