  1. Well say you have the lineup like this: Reyes Martin Bautista EE Donaldson Smoak/Valencia Dirks/Mayberry Pompey Goins/Izturis And come the 6th inning the other team brings a LHP out of the pen with 0 outs to face Smoak, Dirks, Pompey and Izturis. If you bring in the opposite platoonmate for each of those hitters then the opposing team will have a huge advantage later in the game when they can easily bring in a RHP to face Valencia/Mayberry/Izturis and also Donaldson because he is much worse against RHP. This will also be in the 9th inning which will severely limit your chance of scoring runs. This scenario happened more than a few times last year and Gibby really had no options but to sit and watch guys like Tolleson fail miserably vs RHP. My suggestion would be to keep MAyberry because he has a much better track record of hitting LHP while not relying on a huge BABIP and he can also play 1B as well as LF.
  2. Having multiple platoon really limits your roster though. You can stretch it to having 2 platoons but if you are relying on 3 it kills the bench. My guess is Pompey is the everyday CF and Pillar is the 4th OF. I think one of Mayberry/Valencia gets non tendered because if you plan to rotate your regulars at DH for some games then a platoon at DH/1B is a waste.
  3. I agree with this. Pitching is so volatile that if you can get value out of a pitcher you should do it. You never know when injuries happen and pitchers don't really improve much when moving up levels in the minor leagues. At least compared to position players.
  4. IS he expected to be non-tendered? Didn't he get busted for PEDs recently.
  5. Football players also have much shorter careers and they only play full speed on it once a week. I agree though that it seems to be a bigger issue than it really is. The new turf is pretty damn good and personally I prefer it over grass.
  6. Agree 100%. Was saying this when the game was going on. JJ doesn't seem to be back to where he was before the injury. I think getting used to DD not being out there will take a few games but this team should be able to make the adjustments and continue to be a very good team.
  7. Lol yup I remember now.
  8. Could go to AA NH or Dunedin.
  9. Hutch has some of the best K rates last year and with Martin behind the plate compared to Navarro it isn't a stretch to see him improve even more. You are underrating how much Martin helps the pitching staff compared to Navarro. And upgrading 2B might be the difference between winning the division and wildcard/no playoffs. Also would cost a lot in resources which can be better spent elsewhere given the makeup of the club.
  10. Finally someone asked about the non-tender deadline. Says you might see a few moves. Tolleson DFA?
  11. I knew they were really high on him but never heard anyone actually come out and say that.
  12. Wow AA says he wouldn't be surprised if Castro is in the major league bullpen at the end of the season.
  13. Sounds like Sancehz will be a reliever going into the season.
  14. If you don't think Hutch, Norris or Sanchez have upside then I don't know what to say... So your saying you want a starter (currently have a very good rotation and depth) because it isn't a proven rotation yet are advocating going into the season with a guy at 2B who hasn't played above AA?
  15. FFS Bob asks the exact same question Tim asks 5 hours earlier on the same station.
  16. I always wonder about stuff like that. It'd be cool to have Stroman on a podcast. Probably one of the more interesting guys in all of baseball.
  17. I think how much value is defence compared to offence is one.
  18. Hutchison, Sanchez, Norris? Stroman is also not a rookie anymore and yes there is risk with relying on 2 young starters but there is risk in pitching in general. You could sign Scherzer and have his arm blow out next season and be stuck with that contract... KC got to game 7 in the WS with a rotation that looks worse than the Blue Jays this year. Give me an upgrade of LF and 2B over another starter.
  19. Im not a fan. He refuses a lot of newer things/ideas because he is old and stubborn and thats not the way he is used to. He also is getting hard to understand because he can barely talk without stuttering.
  20. That makes zero sense... Numbers aren't opinions, they are facts.
  21. I thought that quote was a good thing. This team is really good at a number of positions and can still improve at a few positions by adding average players. No need to upgrade the rotation. For all those clamoring for an "ace" I just saw a tweet that Steamer has Stroman projected at the 12th best SP in all of baseball. Also listening to Bob Ryan right now and all I can say is wow what a moron. Thinks that Nelson Cruz signing was good and thinks Sandoval is better than Donaldson...
  22. Lind was not overpaid. 1.6 wins for 7 million is pretty good value. Especially when you can have that bat in the middle of all of those RH hitters. Donaldson murders LHP and since the As lineup was mostly LH he would get more opportunities to hit LHP than he will in Toronto with all the RH hitters.
  23. The thing that concerns me is that EE is terrible at catching the ball at 1B. Just by the eye test he would miss a lot of scoopable balls at 1B which could be a problem of Donaldson shorthops the ball a lot. Wonder how good Smoak is at scooping the ball?
  24. Jazz seems like the one they could lose. b2b with Utah's home court advantage is pretty big. I don't think the Rapss lose all those games against the Cavs and Bulls either.
