  1. Andrus has an incredibly player-friendly contract. Like, really friendly. It's so friendly it probably had sex with him after it was signed. Eight more guaranteed years ($15M per from 2015-2020 and $14M per from 2021-2022 with a team option for $15M in 2023). He has TWO player options, one after 2018 and another after 2019. If he is traded, then that team option in 2023 automatically becomes a player option and a trade would give him a complete NTC. If the Jays are really that hard up to get Andrus, then I'd offer Romero, Izturis, and Navarro, and that's probably doing the Rangers a favor. If the Rangers think they'll get any sort of value for a player that will effectively have a NINE YEAR DEAL with three opt-outs and a NTC in it when traded, then they are insane. He isn't that good.
  2. The 1992 and 1993 seasons both started on April 6th. It's a sign.
  3. Hutchison has thrown way too many innings this season for someone coming off TJ. The fact that they haven't shut him down already, especially since they are already conceding games by starting Pillar and Valencia against RHP, is concerning.
  4. Alex should be in scouting or in an assistant role. Look what Baltimore did. They were close to getting LaCava but then ended up getting someone with a history of building great teams, and look what happened. The Jays keep scrapping at the bottom of the barrell (cheap and/or Canadian) and it never leads to anything positive. If they hired Duquette in 2009 instead of Alex, they'd probably be a playoff team right now.
  5. They did that because Jeter was getting older and there was no way he would be worth that much in is final year. But you're right, with A-Rod coming back, they probably wouldn't take Reyes. Man. I'm not even a Yunel fan, but at least he wasn't untradeable. Can't believe the Jays willingly took the worst and most expensive years of Reyes' career. I guess Reyes for Ethier is a good starting point for a trade as they'll need a SS to replace Hanley and they probably won't be able to find a taker for Ethier otherwise. Add some other pieces who the Dodgers may find expendable (Guerrero, Lee, etc) to make it worthwhile for the Jays. I wonder how highly the Dodgers value Lee now. They didn't call him up and he struggled in the PCL.
  6. Agreed. They are replacing an icon and Reyes is still productive and popular in NYC. The Yankees are probably the Jays only hope for a pure Reyes salary dump. Otherwise, it will have to be contract for contract (something like Reyes for Ethier+).
  7. Dickey/Delabar to LAD for Lee, Guerrero, League Reyes to Yankees in pure salary dump Sign Hardy and Lowrie, put Guerrero in LF Trade for Rene Rivera (dat defense/pitch framing)
  8. If Gibbons isn't leading his teams to .500 records, he is fighting with his own players. It's kind of his thing.
  9. Is there any chance in hell of signing both Hardy and Lowrie to play short and 2B respectively while dumping Reyes' contract on the Yankees?
  10. I have said this a million times, but the last two times Rogers spent any money and the team had playoff aspirations, Gibbons was manager. From 2006 to 2014, Gibby's record is 351-349. From 2008-2010, Gaston was 211-201, even though the team wanted to lose in 2009 and 2010. I know people are going to say managers don't matter and it's the talent that wins or losses, and that's true to some extent, but managers can have negative qualities that bring their teams down. Look what Buck Showalter is doing. Everyone has been waiting for the Orioles to decline since 2012 and it never happens. If Gibbons is still manager next season, then rebuild. He's not going to take this team beyond .500, if that.
  11. Of course the Tigers game is delayed when they are down 6-0.
  12. Any chance the Padres trade Rene Rivera? Looks like he is an elite pitch framer and has learned how to hit a bit.
  13. The Jays need to find the next Dozier in someone's farm system. Wish they could have traded for Herrera before the Mets did.
  14. With the way Rogers stifled payroll this season, I think the only way he comes back is if he accepts the qualifying offer. Otherwise I don't see them paying him free agent dollars. I don't have a problem keeping Melky. I have said many times in baseball you can build a top 5 team and farm system simultaneously. Keep your good players, draft well, and do both. It's Rogers that scares me though.
  15. Stroman has a 2.5 WAR in 100 innings. That's amazing value. We wouldn't be needing that from Happ's replacement, though. We have league average or better innings eaters and two young starters with potential to improve. The last spot being a known mediocrity for $6.7M or a potential mediocrity (with much greater upside) for the minimum isn't a huge downgrade. Replacing Melky and finding a 2B are far greater needs with no internal help on the way.
  16. What 2B and LF's under the radar might be available? I'm sure the Jays could do something like Happ and Izturis for Aaron Hill, but Hill has been awful this season.
  17. Could one of Sanchez, Norris, Nolin, or Graveman produce a 1-1.5 WAR over 150 innings? If the answer to that is yes, then letting Happ go is a no brainer.
  18. 18-5 to get to 90 wins. Let's do this.
  19. I'm in favor of letting Happ go and keeping Buehrle. The difference in innings is huge and Happ is about two wins worse overall. Opens up a spot for Sanchez as well if that's the direction they want to go.
  20. Yeah the A's did not need Lester. They'll regret that move when their offense has trouble scoring runs in the playoffs. Tigers scoring a ton in extra innings. Looks like the Jays will catch one team (Indians) tonight. Three more to go. Miracle time.
  21. The Jays not getting any help from the s***** teams tonight (Texas and Boston). Oh well. At least they gain a game on either Detroit or Cleveland regardless of that game's result.
  22. I honestly think the Jays can bring the entire rotation back as is and be good enough to contend next season. It's the offense, pen, and defense that needs work.
  23. If they win 90 and miss the playoffs, I'd be OK with that. It's the years they win 82-85 games and miss the playoffs that are annoying.
  24. From May 12 to June 6, the Blue Jays went 20-4. They need to go 19-5 the rest of the way to finish with 90 wins and a realistic shot at a playoff spot. They've done it before. They need to do it one more time.
  25. I admire everyone's optimism, but does anyone really think we still have a chance in hell at anything other than a slightly above .500 record this season? Six games back with four teams ahead of us and less than a month to go. It's not happening, folks. Be happy with 82-85 wins.
