  1. Yep that was my thought when I read that quote. If the Jays keep Dickey and add Liriano, that's a pretty solid 5 man unit., although don't really know what you're going to get with Liriano most years.
  2. Yeah not spending money in June or July 2014 when the team had like a 50% chance of making the playoffs was just bad business by Rogers. Deciding to spend it now when the probability of the playoffs is unknown instead of five months ago makes no sense.
  3. Martin and Molina on the same team would be a framing dream. Make it happen. Molina is slow as hell and can't hit, but if he's only going to play once or twice a week, it won't be that big of a deal in comparison to Thole.
  4. I read he is looking for 3-4 years and $12M per. I think 3/36 would be reasonable for him, but I'd rather pay more for a 200 IP workhorse (Shields, Lester). With Liriano you really don't know what you are getting year to year, and he's not an innings eater.
  5. Because (insert whatever Howarth and Blair were talking about yesterday).
  6. Hochevar is repped by Boras. Which means he won't be a Blue Jay. Crain makes the most sense (Canadian, a reliever, Canadian, potential buy low, and he is also from Canada).
  7. That's my guess as well. Maybe Dickey to a 3rd team (since he's a "clubhouse cancer" and all) to help facilitate it, and Hamels will waive his NTC if the team that acquires him guarantees his 2019 option, which judging by the Martin contract, AA will have no problem doing.
  8. Sign Shields for the money they are offering Sandoval, and trade Dickey, Happ, and Navarro for help in LF, 1B/DH, and the bullpen.
  9. I'd rather trade Sanchez for one of the Cubs infielders.
  10. My guess is Saunders as well. Buck will be even more obnoxious than usual with four Canadians in the lineup.
  11. If he has another typical season for him he'd be worth the qualifying offer. Is any team going to give up a pick for him? Maybe, but the QO might increase the chances of him returning.
  12. If they trade Dickey, they better have a 200 IP back up plan.
  13. It's too early to really speculate because in a worst case scenario the Jays will be rebuilding in two years, and in a best case, they would have made the playoffs in 2015 and 2016 and will be increasing payroll to match revenue. Until we know how the team performs over the next two years, we can't really say whether this is good or bad. I do agree that backloading in general is not a smart idea, as there are too many variables involved in being able to determine whether the contract will be an albatross or not when it really gets large, but at this point AA only cares about the next two years, and will worry about Martin as a $20M player when that time comes.
  14. Why was Thole's option even picked up? Wasn't he arbitration eligible if they declined his option? Could have non-tendered him and lost nothing.
  15. Agreed. As long as the Jays focus on adding impact talent without sacrificing the farm system, then these moves are designed to win short-term and long-term. If the Jays did nothing, then I'd agree with rebuilding, but adding Martin was too good to pass up, and now they should go all in.
  16. Option 1: trade Happ and Navarro for bullpen help, used saved money to sign McCarthy and Aoki. Option 2: trade Happ for Saunders, Navarro for pen help, and sign one of Headley or McCarthy (whichever one is willing to sign). I really think the Jays need another starter. Do not depend on Sanchez in a year they intend on competing, even with Martin's defense/framing behind the plate.
  17. If their ceiling is five years then Shields is probably more attainable. McCarthy and Liriano are the most realistic though. Isn't McCarthy a fan of advanced stats? Maybe having an elite framer will interest him.
  18. Didn't Davidi say that AA offered Anibal Sanchez an expensive five year deal prior to the Miami trade? If so, I guess there is some hope that AA would make a big offer to Martin, but I still think the chances border on slim and none.
  19. Free agency means outbidding. The Jays aren't going to get him for four years if that's what a better situation is offering. They need to go five. They probably won't. As usual.
  20. I would imagine 5/80 would have gotten Martin if he's going for 4/64. Too bad.
  21. Wilner was just on the radio and he talked about the importance of pitch framing and how Navarro is not good in that area (it was in response to Russell Martin's availability). I don't really follow Wilner so maybe he's talked about it before, but that's the first I heard anyone in the Toronto media mentioning the importance of framing. I'd like to think that AA told Wilner to say that in preparation for a Martin signing, but I know it will never happen. Just let me dream a little bit.
  22. If I said "I heard either Bautista or Beltran has demanded a trade, not sure which one"....how in the hell could that be considered news or even credible speculation? They are two different players on two different teams. It shouldn't be hard to know which one if you have a credible source. That was my point. The "report" about someone blocking a trade was stupid and phrased in a way that deserved criticism, not to be taken seriously. I hate this time of year when it comes to Twitter. Everyone tries to get hits or likes or retweets by being a Rosenthal wannabee. It's annoying.
  23. It's easy to get Kendrick and Utley confused. They look and play so much alike.
  24. If we agreed to pay the buyout, do the Yankees take Reyes for free? I mean, pay him $66M for three years and give up nothing in return?
  25. Morales for the same money as Lind would be better value purely on the fact that he won't need a platoon partner. If you could get Morales for less than Lind money, then you have to consider it. Even if he is only a 1.5 win player in a typical year that's pretty much as good as Lind is, except you won't need a platoon partner attached.
