  1. Rogers has a huge task now to clean up this PR mess. Won't be easy.
  2. Tampering charges would be doing us a favor. It would make Eddie look even worse, and that's a good thing.
  3. Yeah, AA did a lot to repair his reputation this off-season. Donaldson, Martin, Saunders, Travis, etc, was a hell of an off-season. The issue, as stated before, is depth. He has never properly anticipated injuries in any season he has been GM. He puts far too much expectations on young players to begin a season, and if they get hurt or pitch below expectations, he blames injuries/bad luck. In reality, he should be putting no pressure on the young starters because he shouldn't be counting on them at all. This year it will be Sanchez, Pompey, and possibly Travis and Norris as well. Out of those four, the only one I'd be confident in starting the season in the Majors is Travis, and even he hasn't touched AAA yet. The depth in case of failure/injury, while better than previous seasons, is still not where it should be. Regardless, if AA's newfound appreciation of advanced stats is for real, then I don't mind him staying on. Maybe AA with a better team president would be more successful.
  4. I agree except I think they would have let him shed payroll if he wanted to (ex. sell high on Rasmus). I think he could have made moves to lower payroll and see limited drop off, but I agree in general that he was handcuffed by ownership.
  5. It was Blair, so take it whichever way you want, but I tend to believe it. AA made the Happ/Saunders trade on December 3. On December 7, Rosenthal tweets about the Jays interest in Duquette. What Major League transaction have the Jays made since December 7? None. Minor league deals and waiver claims. That's all. For a team that only has three guaranteed MLB relievers (Cecil, Loup, Estrada), a projected 0 WAR out of 2B (Goins/Izturis), and a #5 starter who has red flags all over the place. Not only has this Duquette nonsense hurt the Jays reputation, but it may have hurt AA's chances of trading Navarro and finding suitable solutions for the holes that still exist on the team. Now, it could all be a big coincidence, as AA proved last season he can go six months without making an MLB transaction if he wanted to, but trading Navarro when Dickey is publicly supporting Thole and Martin is coming in with a 5/82 contract is simply common sense, and hasn't been done yet. There's a real chance Navarro starts the year in Toronto, and that's not good. If it's because of Edward Rogers and his imbecile friend, then they can both EAD as far as I'm concerned. Wish his last name was something else so they could fire him.
  6. Rogers has made me sympathize with Paul Beeston. That's a feat in itself.
  7. Rosenthal is the standard, IMO. His sources are excellent and he doesn't try to peddle s*** like Heyman. Everyone else is hit or miss. Guys like Olney are terrible.
  8. Not sure how reliable it is since it was from Blair, but apparently AA has/had deals lined up for Navarro but was told to hold off until the Duquette thing was settled. Considering the team hasn't done anything since the rumors first started, I tend to believe it.
  9. Ruben Amaro. Vesting options, player options, and $10M buyouts for everyone!
  10. Crain and Bedard on minor league deals. Where were the Jays? Canadians!
  11. Never doubt the integrity of a man who calls himself Testicles.
  12. Beeston is working without a contract (apparently). He likely knows he's on borrowed time and they are searching for his replacement. Nothing has really changed if the Jays pass on Duquette. With that said, please let Stephen Brunt be right!!! End this gong show now and let's add some wins for 2015.
  13. Navarro for Duquette. That's the most Baltimore should get, especially if the Jays had to take back Mike Aviles for Farrell.
  14. It probably has hurt Baltimore more, but doing nothing for two months waiting for Lloyd Christmas to broker a deal for an executive may have cost the Jays a win or two just by not adding talent when the opportunity was presumably there. Twenty two years without the playoffs and ownership freezes the roster to negotiate with an executive? That's disgusting.
  15. Does anyone find it a bit strange that ever since this rumor started in December that the Jays have done nothing? The off-season has died thanks to Eddie and his stupidity.
  16. Rosenthal bringing the logic, as always. Why hasn't this died yet? I mean, someone come out and say talks are done and everyone is moving on. Please!? The longer this drags, the more it seems like Rogers is going to do something stupid. Just stop and walk away I miss Interbrew.
  17. That's from Elliot's latest article. Trading Hoffman when the alternative is losing what amounts to a slap on the wrist for tampering would be beyond stupid. Take the tampering charge, pay the money, and leave the Blue Jays alone, Edward you ignorant fool!
  18. I don't mean reasonable as in good. I mean reasonable as in they overpaid in prospects for a player they expected to contribute at a significantly high level on the field. Compared to trade for an executive, it's apples and oranges. Duquette has no impact on the field at all.
  19. Why do people keep bringing up Dickey? He was the reigning Cy Young winner and someone the team expected to help them on the field. It was perfectly realistic for AA (or anyone) to give up top prospects for him. Trading a similar package for an executive would be unheard of, and probably the dumbest thing any sports franchise has ever done when you combine it with the tampering. There is no comparison. Syndergaard and TDA for Dickey was a perfectly reasonable overpay. Stupid move, maybe, but reasonable in that they were getting someone expected to add wins. Duquette is a completely different animal.
  20. Why wouldn't Rosenthal report it if he heard it from a reliable source? He's the most credible baseball reporter out there. If he heard what Buster Olney seems to think is reality, then surely he would have said something whether he hated the Orioles or not.
  21. Again, not a word from Rosenthal yet. It's columnists from Toronto and Baltimore regurgitating Buster freakin' Olney's speculation. If Hoffman (or any top prospect for that matter) is traded for DD, then I'm not making the trek down to Toronto to see them Opening Night like I planned to. They don't deserve any money if they do something that stupid.
  22. I love how this Orioles fan is clearly a troll and yet people still respond to him. Ignore is a nice feature.
  23. Agreed. I actually think Duquette would be a good fit for the Jays simply because he is a baseball guy, and one with a track record. When you are run by a corporation, having a baseball guy in the president spot is far more appealing. Beeston is not a baseball guy and is stuck in the 80's. Duquette knows how to build a good team and farm system. He's still not worth giving up a prospect for, though. He's just an executive.
  24. Notice how idiots like Olney and Bowden are chiming in, but not a peep from Rosenthal? There is a reason for that. Wait until Kenny says something, then we will know a bit more. The only thing Toronto media knows how to do is Retweet other journalists.
  25. As God as my witness, if Hoffman is traded for Duquette, I am no longer a Jays fan. The last 22 years have been miserable enough. This would be the icing on the cake. I could live with overpaying a Major Leaguer, but an executive? f*** you, Rogers.
