  1. I'm convinced that early-00s Kirk Rueter could strike out Martin 4 times in 4 AB's right now. Or hell, Rueter today can probably do that.
  2. The 2016 team better make the playoffs. Keeping track of the farm system this season has been depressing. Give us something entertaining to watch this summer, Jays.
  3. A tear trickled down Pete Walker's cheek as he read that.
  4. Floyd and Chavez could be used in these situations, and then they could use Storen in lesser spots until he gets his performance back up to par. Using him stubbornly in the 8th inning because "veteranz" is the type of dumb s*** old school managers always do.
  5. 1 run game, lets bring in the guy whose velocity is down and has looked like s*** all season. Veteranz!
  6. How can a pitcher as mediocre as Dickey hold 2 roster spots hostage? I mean, he has value (average innings eater) but not worth carrying Thole.
  7. Burns will take playing time away from Barney before he takes it away from Goins. When Gibby likes someone, it's unconditional.
  8. Hey the Jays are hitting!! Was waiting for this. Has Bautista been beaned in this series? If not, with this being a blowout, I'd be careful if I were him.
  9. Pillar at lead off was a bad idea. Pillar as a player in general is very good.
  10. You could probably find a taker for Tulo, but no one is going to take a catcher in his 30's making $20m a year until age 35. Jays are probably stuck with Martin.
  11. Goins was being rewarded for 2015. Or something.
  12. The offense collectively overachieved last season. Now the fringe players are falling back to earth, and some of the star players have started badly/mediocre (Tulo, Martin, Edwin). I definitely think a hitting coach can make a negative difference, but with Jacoby, it's the same freakin players he coached last year. It's not on him.
  13. There's still time to turn things around, but if the MLB team doesn't do well this season, man it's going to be a boring ass summer. The farm system sucks ass, the big league team is old, the window is about half way shut on the Bats/Eddie era, and either way we have to witness another full season of Sling Blade playing his own personal hunches/favorites over percentages/common sense.
  14. Yeah agree. Shapkins inherited this core. He's not going to hire his own guy to manage this group. Once real changes happen (either after the season or mid-season if they are out of it), then we might see a managerial change.
  15. Goins is not a MLB player, so let's blame him for the manager playing him everyday when there is an option on the bench that is better. Makes sense.
  16. Goins coming into this game had a -0.5 WAR and 20 wRC+. And he still plays over a clearly superior player in Barney. What a load of s***.
  17. When Travis gets back, Goins better be optioned. Shapkins needs to stop catering to the Hick and make some sensible roster moves.
  18. Goins needs to get busted for PED's so Gibbons can stop playing him. Or just fire Gibbons. Actually, both would be nice.
  19. To be fair, even if they did sign one of those guys, they would have been used like Chavez and Floyd have been used so far. Storen has been s*** and Cecil is 0-5 (s***** luck and off/on command). Practically nothing would have changed if they signed a reliever, unless Gibby trusted that reliever ahead of Storen or Cecil. Fix those two and the pen is fine.
  20. People should act faux offended at Law's lack of sensitivity towards height, like he did with CJ's tweet recently.
  21. Not really. I want to see a consistent winner. A World Series win is always the preferred ending to a season, but I'm also being realistic about what this team will look like after 2016. Like I said, either win a WS or fail miserably. I'm down with either scenario.
  22. I hope it's not too much to ask for him to have one more good season so that he's at least partially tradeable. I liked signing him initially, and he was good last season, but damn if his decline is starting already, then cut bait and run as fast as possible. With the backloaded deal that will be difficult unless he turns things around in 2016.
  23. We need Mark DeRosa's 1 WAR motivational speech ability on this roster.
  24. Yeah, and if the Jays are going to miss the playoffs this year, I really hope they fall hard rather than stay in between (.500 ish) all season. Trading some of these guys at the deadline could yield good results. JB and EE will probably have no issues waiving their 10/5 rights mid season if the Jays are giving up, especially with the QO no longer an issue when they hit free agency. I want the Jays to either run away with the division or collapse. In between is what you want to avoid.
  25. The best part is that that 95% of this roster is AA's baby. He added Happ, Chavez, and Floyd, basically. THe lineup is AA's, the bench is all AA acquisitions, the rotation other than Happ were guys acquired by AA, etc. He clearly wanted to rebuild imo but threw a bone to the fanbase. Now he's watching the previous GM's creation predictable age/decline, and some idiots will still blame him for it. I thought the off-season was very well played. This team still has a chance to turn things around, but if they won't, it will be easy to change direction. Thank goodness AA was gone before he doubled down on this roster even more.
