    Chavez will get more than 10 starts. Nevermind injuries, but if Sanchez is still the same dude he was as a starter in 2015, then Chavez will take his spot pretty soon. A lot would have to go right for Chavez to remain in the pen all season.

    Floyd has been a good starter his whole career. Sanchez has struggled as a starter but been a good reliever. So they felt Floyd in the pen and Sanchez in the rotation gave them the best chance to win short-term. Does that not seem odd? Look, I hope Sanchez becomes an ace and have no issues with trying to develop him as a starter. Just don't get the logic here. They have frickin options, use them. They did with Hutch.

    He was effective in 2014. Only 9 starts but he got hurt. It wasn't performance related. Why couldn't they start Sanchez in AAA and call him up if/when Floyd got hurt? Now they have pretty much eliminated Floyd as a rotation option (stretching him out again after a bullpen stint might be tough given his injury history) and if Sanchez's spring performance was a mirage, then you lost a capable rotation piece for no reason. I don't mind starting Sanchez. I'm not a big fan of his but might as well try him there with the pen in good shape without him. I just question why he had to be in the big league rotation. Other than his 20 spring innings, what has he done to earn it? That bulking bro diet in the offseason isn't going to magically change his control issues. They better hope the spring command is sustainable.

    Why does everyone listen to Gibbons? First Valencia gets DFA'ed for him, and now they f*** over Floyd instead of using Sanchez's options to the team's advantage. Could have let Floyd's arm fall off as a SP before putting him the pen/replacing him with Sanchez later on. Maybe Floyd can be our Joe Blanton now.

    Is Sanchez allergic to AAA, or something? They are demoting a pitcher with a much better track record (Hutch) and no one gives two shits. Why can't they just do the same for Sanchez and just say "he'll be up soon but we don't want to limit him in the pen and would rather he stretch out in the minors in case of need"?

    Estrada to the DL is a f'n no brainer at this point. Saves the 5th starter controversy (temporarily at least), opens up a roster spot for another pitcher who might not otherwise make it (Biagini or Leon or Delabar), and most importantly gets Estrada healthy before he pitches meaningful games. My guess is that's what will happen eventually.

    Put him in the pen and use him like Cecil. Might be too complicated for the Gibbster who wants a one batter guy for some reason but talk him into it.

    Cory Luebke has an out clause in his contract with the Pirates, apparently can opt out Tuesday. Wasn't Shapiro (mocked by the Twitter mouth breathers for being) interested in him earlier this off-season? Jays do need a lefty reliever and apparently his stuff has looked good this spring.

    Yeah the one benefit of the two 1B alignment in the roster is it gives the Jays capable bats in case Edwin misses time. Don't rush him back. Make sure he's 100%.

    Trading for May and moving Dickey in a separate deal would be the only way I'd be OK with moving Dickey. Can't take away from the depth, but if it's a lateral depth move (Dickey out, May in), it's balances out. Make it happen, Shapkins.

    Gibby still having a job is grounds to start a Fire Gibbons thread, so if my approval is necessary, then I approve. Although I probably won't be as aggressive with my hatred this season most likely. A playoff berth after a 22 year drought can mellow a dude out a bit. Gibbons is still bad, though.

    Agreed. I like having Chavez around for depth purposes, but if he spends a good chunk of the year in the pen then it would make the trade a lot worse. They guessed right on the SP market, but may have underestimated the relief market. Whatever. As mentioned, if that's the worst decision they made this winter, it's forgivable. Chavez will probably still be needed in the rotation at some point.

    They are not going to bench Barney in favor of Burns in that scenario. More likely the other way around.

    If Tulo is OK (still not going to celebrate until word is official), then wrap him up in bubble wrap until April. The thought of a Goins/Barney infield with Pillar leading off is nauseating.

    Yeah I don't think Floyd cares about an innings limit. Either he will pitch the whole season or he'll get hurt. One more major injury and his career's probably done anyway, and he's gotten hurt pitching far less in the last three years, so what does he have to lose, really? Just go out there and pitch as best as he can and whatever happens will happen. The team will have to be careful with their younger pitchers because they have more long term value, but Floyd is a different story.

    Yeah seriously, as long as he's healthy, have Saunders lead off, at least against RHP. Pillar leading off and Saunders batting 8th is straight up Ned Yost. Come on, Gibby.

    One more good season as a reliever and then trade him. Given the market for relievers and his age, sell high.

    Osuna doesn't want to start and Sanchez doesn't want to pitch out of the pen. Soon Pillar is going to say he doesn't want to play center.

    Hutchison: actual MLB success as a SP, no one bats an eye that he's starting in AAA. Sanchez: s*** as a SP for five years, yet some people consider it an insult if he starts in AAA. Craziness. Let both start in AAA and call them up when a need arises. Make that Straily trade already, too.

    That's why I'm not overly concerned about Pillar hitting lead off, even though it is a really stupid decision. If Pillar has 2 bad weeks, and Saunders (as an example) is scorching hot to start the year, I could see him making that swap by mid-April. On the flip side, if KP starts the season blazing, then all bets are off.

    My only solace to this news is that the last two managers to represent the AL in the World Series have been John Farrell and Ned Yost. Maybe there's a hidden advantage to having incompetence in the managerial spot. The 2016 roster is pretty much dummy proof, and he still found a way to do one really stupid thing already (Pillar leading off). At least I would hope his bullpen usage, which was atrocious last season, will be a lot more efficient with Osuna/Cecil/Storen at the end of the games. I mean, that's hard to f*** up, right?
