  1. Backup catchers don't have to be great, but would Thole even be in baseball if it wasn't for Dickey? He's not a very good catcher in general and can't even hit minor league pitching anymore. Dude is done being a MLB quality back up and has been since 2011. Even a replacement level backup catcher would be better than Thole.
  2. Good god, no. He's a perfectly average pitcher who can throw 200 innings, and that's fine, but no. Just no.
  3. Steve Pearce makes the most sense to go after.
  4. Yep. Shapkins won't be trading any prospects. Well, any real prospects. I'd expect moves in the same vein as the Grilli trade.
  5. Not keeping track, but is Quintana on the team? If not, he should have had priority over Sanchez. But again, other than the Jays players, I have no clue what the team looks like.
  6. Upton has a 1.5 WAR right now. He's a pretty useful player again. Not sure the Padres have to dump him anymore, but he would be a nice fit for the Jays OF if the Pads picked up a chunk of the tab. I don't think they would though.
  7. As much as I would like to add someone like Gray, the Jays don't have the prospects to pull it off, nor can they afford to trade prospects at this point. They can upgrade without losing meaningful prospects this trade deadline. They just need a competent outfielder/first baseman and another reliever.
  8. Walker is probably fuming at all the K's by Happ.
  9. Call up Papa Buehrle and see where his head (and arm) is at. Miss that guy.
  10. Gray would be a good pick up but the Jays system is kinda weak at the moment, especially with Alford and Greene having poor seasons so far.
  11. Well, not someone who comes as borderline free as Grilli did, but someone who won't cost much to acquire because of age or performance that could improve. I don't expect Shapkins to be trading any real prospects, but I hope they target an OF, preferably someone who can cover RF. Smoak is not taking advantage of his playing time at 1B, and Bautista in RF before the toe problem was bad so I don't want to see how bad it is after.
  12. Who is the Grilli equivalent of an outfielder that might be available? Trade for him, puts Bats at DH/1B, and see what happens.
  13. Reyes at age 31 had a 3.5 WAR, 104 wRC+, and .287 average (since BA was brought up by the smart poster who called everyone else stupid). The following season he fell off the face of the earth defensively and offensively. Tulo is clearly better than him, especially defensively, but age does not discriminate and Tulo's been average to below average offensively since the start of 2015. Now, if this hot streak is legit and he can carry it over to the 2nd half, then that changes things, but right now, I don't think it's fair to say "he is back". He could be, but hot streaks happen. I'm in the camp that wouldn't mind trading him after this season, but a SS replacement has to be there (not Barney). With CWS's love of vets, maybe Tulo for Anderson is possible.
  14. BBref says Barney has one more year of arb after this one, so I think he's still under team control after 2016. Not a game changer or anything, but as a utility infielder, he's a good guy to have around.
  15. The team Shapiro left and the team Shapiro is on. Sportsnet comments section in shambles.
  16. Thole would be working at Wal-Mart if it wasn't for Dickey.
  17. Still pissed the Jays couldn't win this match-up in Game 4.
  18. http://a.fssta.com/content/dam/fsdigital/fscom/mlb/images/2014/02/26/022614-mlb-Jose-Reyes-pi-mp.vresize.1200.675.high.14.jpg
  19. Get Trevor May. Keep him in the pen the rest of the year and then stretch him out next spring. The Twins are like Pete Walker, they love dat "pitch 2 contact" philosophy, and May is not that type of pitcher. Buy low.
  20. I'm rooting for Tulo. Great player in his prime and the Jays have a lot invested in him the next four plus years. Looked like s*** early in the year and the end of last year which makes me nervous. I'm still nervous about him long term but put up a few 3+ WAR seasons over the next five years and I'll be happy.
  21. Yeah, when JB gets back, he needs to replace Smoak in the lineup. Either put Pompey in right, or trade for a vet stop gap to hold the spot down for the rest of the season. Bautista sucked in the outfield before the toe injury. He won't get better out there, and Smoak isn't hitting enough to justify not making the switch. You had your chance with Roidabello out, and you blew it, Smoak.
  22. Impending FA's of any significance: JB, EE, Saunders, Dickey, Cecil, Storen, Smoak, Chavez Cecil, maybe? I can't see the front office trading JB, EE, or Saunders right now, and Dickey/Smoak/Chavez don't have that much value. Maybe they are starting talks now incase they fall out of the race in the next month. Either that, or it's prospect for prospect trade. I can't see anything else.
  23. Trading vets when they are tied for the 2nd WC, 0.5 game out of the 1st WC, and 4-5 games out of 1st in the division would be ballsy by the new regime. It would depend who they trade, but I'm curious now.
  24. Show passion, but then live with the consequences. When you get pulled over by the police, they have 100% power. You can't beat them. If you argue/curse at them, they'll still win, but possibly make it 10 times worse for you. Not the best example, but that's how umps are. They have all the authority in baseball and you can't beat them. So curse at them, and live with the punishment. They are wrong more often than not, but what the hell are you going to do to officials who are bullet proof? You can't fight them.
