  1. Shutting Sanchez down while Dickey stays in the rotation all year is going to be sad to watch . I love that we have a front office that values SP depth, but replace Dickey with Chavez and Thole with anyone else and do we see any difference at all? At least the games will be fun to watch knowing Dickey isn't starting.
  2. Well yeah, I mean take the L if it happens. No way the Dickster should start against Baltimore. If he gets creamed today, it happens, and move on. Better today than this weekend.
  3. Take the L today and have your best go against Baltimore. Good move having Dickey go today even if he loses. Dude is trash, might as well give the team a chance against a bad team.
  4. Perdomo is not as bad as some of you seem to think he is.
  5. Good move to have Dickey against the Padres. I was dreading him pitching in the opener against the Orioles. At least if he's trash today it's against a s*** team, and not one you are trying to catch.
  6. Yeah I don't mind resting Tulo and Saunders. They are both prone to injury and it is a day game after an extra innings night game. Still enough to beat the Pads although with the Dickster on the mound you never know.
  7. Well, I hate Gibbons, but he did that with Grilli and it worked out. I don't expect it to work out as well with Benoit, but yeah, he'll probably do it. Veteran presentz and all.
  8. Are people really calling this a great move though? Benoit's throwing as hard as he normally does and still striking guys out at a high clip, but he's obviously old as hell and no lock to improve. Storen lost 2 mph on his fastball and is giving up a s*** ton of hard contact. He could improve, but the warning signs are much greater with him. It's a lateral move with some upside if Benoit's command comes back. That's a pretty reasonable assessment. No one is calling this a great trade. If anything is great about it, it's the fact that instead of paying Storen to Netflix and Chill with his wife, we are paying Benoit to hopefully rebound from his poor start.
  9. Grilli with ATL picking up the tab (+affordable team option for 2017). Upton with SD picking up $17m of the $22m he has left on his deal (controllable through 2017). Benoit for Storen likely in a salary neutral trade (I'm guessing Jays are paying the difference in $ to even it out) I'm liking these moves.
  10. Grilli part 2. Benoit's velocity is right where it normally is. His struggles in 2016 could just be a small sample size, whereas Storen lost mph on his FB and was giving up a s*** ton more hard contact than he ever had before. Lateral move, but might be an upgrade.
  11. A rusty Bautista coming off injury up with the bases loaded isn't as tantalizing as it would be normally.
  12. This team losing close games at a high clip every year is not a coincidence with Sling Blade managing the team. Just have to hope the team can pull through anyway.
  13. Padres don't give a f*** about winning. Take advantage of it boys.
  14. Osuna will hit the game winning HR this inning. I can feel it.
  15. I hope the Jays have the bases loaded when the 8th spot comes up. I'm curious how Gibbons will manage from here on out, kind of like giving a loaded gun to a moron and seeing what he'll do next.
  16. Wait, so Upton pinch hit for Smoak, and instead of moving Upton to the OF and Bautista to 1B, Gibbons took Edwin from DH to 1B and now the Jays have to have the pitcher bat 8th? This roster is too complicated for Redneck Gaston.
  17. Rosenthal mentioned the Jays interest in Upton last week, and said the deal was close last night. This ain't the AA era anymore. We might hear about trades before they are announced more often now.
  18. Padres are paying all EXCEPT $5m, which means they are paying $17m while the Jays are paying Upton $5m.
  19. Heyman said SD are paying "a lot" of the $22m left on Upton's contract. That seems like more than half of it, at least by the way he phrased it.
  20. Prospect is Hansel Rodriguez, per Heyman.
  21. His defence in left grades out pretty well this season. Could be valuable in the corners defensively.
  22. They'll probably give both of them time at DH while Upton covers LF and RF. I don't think this means the end of Zeke. He's prob going to be the 4th OF with Upton starting. It will be Smoak who sees his role diminish, if anything.
  23. Lineup: Bautista, Donaldson, EE, Saunders, Tulo, Martin, Travis, Pillar, Upton Bench: Zeke, Smoak, Barney, Thole
  24. He had a 110 wRC+ in 2015 (228 Pa) and 100 so far this season, and he brings at least some value on defence and on the bases. Smoak was at 107 last season and 101 this year, and he's a slug at 1b and the bases. We are looking at two average hitters at absolute best, but one of them brings defensive value and speed, and he's been much better in LF this season than he has been in center (and he's not playing center over Pillar on this team). Like I said, if the Pads are picking up most of the tab and the Jays are giving up very little, then it is an upgrade in 2016 and gives them depth in 2017 with two OF's leaving. Even a Carrera/Upton platoon is probably better than Smoak playing everyday.
  25. I'd rather go with Pompey too, but for whatever reason that's not happening. Upton wouldn't be my first choice but I don't want to see Bautista and Saunders play the OF together. That's two pylons beside Pillar. Upton is better than Smoak, and that's really the way I'm looking at it. But if they give up anything of value, I'd be disappointed.
