  1. There's no way Martin is going to catch 5 days in a row while Thole catches Dickey. Thole's going to have to catch one of the other starters as well unfortunately, until the rosters expand and they can put Jimenez or Kratz in there instead.
  2. I wonder if Gibbons will bring Barnes in for the 6th. Sanchez had a long inning and while the Royals have been lucky as hell (what else is new?) and he's only at 75 pitches, I wonder if he was instructed to go easy on Sanchez's innings going forward. We will see tonight.
  3. Upton hits lefties well, so he bats 9th against one tonight, while he's not good against righties, yet on Thursday against a righty he batted 6th ahead of Tulo.
  4. Alex isn't the GM anymore. Urena isn't being called up and SRF won't be pitching out of the pen.
  5. Why didn't Feldman stay in the game? Could have saved the pen a bit in case it goes to extras because lord knows the Jays won't be scoring a damn thing for the rest of the game if the last week is any indication.
  6. Happ getting 20 wins is a lot less likely with a 6 man rotation. That's probably his best shot at winning the CY.
  7. I was curious about this as well. They'll have to have Thole catch at least one more starter in addition to Dickey to avoid Martin burning out. They want Martin to "fix" Liriano so Thole won't be catching him. Might have to mix him in during a Estrada or Happ start every now and then.
  8. Osuna has thrown 4 times in 5 days. With Gibbons managing, it would be hard to make a convincing argument that Sanchez is less likely to get hurt in the pen. He will be run to the ground in the pen. At least Gibbons has been fairly consistent at keeping him at around 100 pitches as a starter. I understand Shapiro's argument, but without more science based fact about whether it actually helps a starter remain healthy, it's kind of pointless. With how hard Sanchez throws, he could get hurt at any moment. There's really no way to predict it or prevent it.
  9. Extra rest for starters is a good thing (especially Sanchez, Estrada, and Stroman for different reasons), but I can't see this lasting long. Someone is going to struggle and they'll be pushed aside or skipped. This does appear to be a PR move to placate Sanchez and probably a lot of his teammates. Maybe they were not expecting the backlash that they got. There are ways to work around this without putting him in the pen, they'll just need to skip him some times and/or make sure Gibbons does not extend him in games unnecessarily (this is the tough one since Gibby keeps starters in the game for 100 pitches regardless of performance).
  10. Winning 3/4 with the offense s***ing the bed in practically all four games save for some solo home runs is amazing. Pitching was excellent.
  11. Man if the Jays can win this game/series it would be a freakin' miracle considering how bad the offense has been since Sunday.
  12. Thankfully the Jays do not visit Houston again. Good lord. Happ gives up 1 run and it feels like the game is slipping away. The bats have been brutal.
  13. Seriously, Upton can strike out 4 times a game and still have more value than Smoak. Can't believe we are stuck with him for two more years.
  14. Smoak loves to strike out.
  15. I don't think anything has changed. Sanchez will be in the rotation for a few more starts before they make the change. They are probably doing it to give Liriano some time to see how he does.
  16. I didn't quite catch what Shapiro said with Bobcat, but he mentioned that there was a stat out there where half of the pitchers in the top 10 were relievers. What stat was he talking about?
  17. They won't change their minds. Probably being done to diffuse any clubhouse issues with players (well, Martin at least) coming out and speaking negatively about the decision, and obviously to map it out with Sanchez, if they haven't already. Shapiro won't change his mind because the media disagrees with him, nor should he.
  18. Man just give him a phantom DL stint and then put him on a five inning max after that. They can work around this. I don't trust Gibbons using him in the pen. He will be throwing 3 games in 4 days by September 1. A starter might be easier on his arm.
  19. God damnit I hate the Orioles. And the Rangers.
  20. Holy s*** the offense this series has been unwatchable. K after K.
  21. I don't think they'd let backlash sway their decision (and there's been tons of backlash by practically everyone), but who knows.
  22. Bring a kid with you. If that doesn't work, then just tell the player he's a bum. Works every time.
  23. Yeah with Sanchez's velocity and mechanics he could get hurt regardless of innings limits. Why they chose this route rather than working around the innings (skip starts, phantom DL stint, more rest, etc) is strange. I like Shapiro but I think he's wrong here. Well, not wrong about wanting to limit his innings necessarily but wrong in the way they went about doing it.
