  1. Well, it was Happ's fault for the s*** escalating for no reason.
  2. Lol, I'm looking at Gameday for the highlights of the hbp's, and Sportsnet's feed completely misses the hbp to Headley, so Gameday has to put the Yankee feed in as well. Was Sportsnet panning to a person in the crowd picking their nose like they always do in between pitches?
  3. If the Jays go 4-3 the rest of the way, they have 90 wins. Doable.
  4. Has Osuna blown a save against a worse group of hitters? Wow. A broken down Tex, fat ass Butler, and a bunch of minor leaguers.
  5. There is no logic when it comes to DD. He'll outbid the next higher bidder by $50m if he has the resources to do it.
  6. Edwin's younger and plays 1B well enough to be an option for an NL team as well. He'll get more money and the longer deal. Bautista's case is interesting. He's a s*** defensive player now, will be 36 next season, coming off his worst season in 8 years, with two separate stints on the DL for lower body injuries. Will a team give up a draft pick and give him the type of contract his ego would be able to live with? Maybe, but it's not the lock that Edwin's case is.
  7. Nah, McGuire is 21. He will probably start in AA. No point keeping him on the bench behind Martin rather than playing everyday in the minors.
  8. A replacement level back up catcher is a half a win improvement over Thole. The back-up doesn't have to be good, just competent enough to be replacement level. Jeff freakin' Mathis is a 0.7 WAR improvement over Thole this season. I mean, the Jays don't have to get Tyler Flowers to back up or anything, just get someone who actually belongs in the Majors.
  9. Even if Liriano is a 4.00-4.50 ERA guy next season, I'd take him and a competent back-up catcher over Dickey and Thole for the same cost any day of the week. If Ramirez or McGuire turn into anything, then even better. Although we all know Searage is going to turn Hutch into a monster next season. Just have to prepare for that reality.
  10. Astros blowing it in the 9th, but every other WC candidate has won (Detroit, Baltimore, Seattle). That Baltimore series next week might decide one WC spot. The Tigers look like a pretty safe bet to get the other one.
  11. Well, I don't like Carrera, so him playing at all is kind of annoying. Upton can at least play defence and run into one and hit it out of the park every once in a while and not have it be a complete fluke. The more Carrera plays, the more he will be exposed.
  12. 2015 vs rhp Upton: 101 wrc+ Carrera: 85 wrc+ 2016 vs rhp Upton: 70 wrc+ Carrera: 58 wrc+ Melvin is the better player, offensively and defensively (not saying much but still). Gibby just doing what Gibby does. Carrera is not good. Glad he was able to win a game with a HR a while back, but that doesn't mean he's worthy of more playing time.
  13. Carrera starting again. Gibby lost sight of his love for Zeke but it has been rekindled.
  14. So I guess the rotation shakes out like this: Vs NY: Liriano, Stroman, Estrada, Happ Vs BAL: Sanchez, Liriano, Stroman Vs BOS: Estrada, Happ, Sanchez If the Jays clinch a WC spot before the last game of the season, do they save Sanchez for the WC game or go with Stro? Chances are this will go down to the wire and either the Jays miss the playoffs or Stroman starts the WC game, which is a damn scary thought.
  15. I don't know. If the Jays won the World Series I wouldn't care what Norris became. But we got two months of good baseball, a memorable ALDS, and now what looks like either a WC game or out of the playoffs entirely. Instant gratification, it was fine. Even from a win curve standpoint it was fine. I just hate teams that play for one year. That's all you're ever going to get.
  16. The WC game is a coin flip. I want to avoid that game as much as possible. However, 4 games back of the division with 11 to play? That's going to be tough to climb, even with 3 head to head games remaining. The Jays would basically have to shave at least 2 games in the standings in the next 8 games, and then sweep the Sox at Fenway. Possible, sure. Strangers things have happened. Not bloody likely though. If the Jays were playing well then maybe I'd change that, but they are hanging on to a WC spot by the flimsiest of margins. Being 4 games back of Boston seems like a death blow, while being 3 games back of Toronto seems entirely doable. The Jays have to go on a run and just let whatever happens happen.
  17. My only real hope for this team is the Baseball God's are bracing us for the sweetest road to the World Series ever. Beat Baltimore in the wild card game, beat the Rangers in the ALDS, and then beat the Red Sox in the ALCS. Hey, let me dream, goddammit!
  18. Yep, Gibby is old school. He'll let Estrada's arm fall off as long as the, um, is in tact.
  19. Man, if Estrada is hurt, then start Dickey or even Feldman in his place. Why have him keep pitching badly just to have him out there?
  20. Orioles on the verge of their 3rd playoff appearance in five years with Duquette and Buck despite never looking justified of it from a talent standpoint. I might have to just start accepting that they are a well run team, as much as it pains me.
  21. It's not bad luck. The Jays are getting killed in the last 12 games. Run differential is s***. Wins are 1 run wins where Pillar has to track a ball at the warning track to save the game. I don't know what happened between the end of August and now, but this team is not making the playoffs if they don't turn this around quickly. There are just too many teams around them to slump this badly. Injuries and age might be a factor. When your best players are in their 30's with a ton of mileage on them, it's not going to be easy to last a whole season.
  22. He's not going to be the GM here so his track record with FA contracts (as mixed as it is) doesn't really matter. It will ultimately be Atkins who makes the call with Shapiro's input (or vice versa). The Jays badly need to improve their player development structure, so if Cherington can help with that, then that's great.
  23. Last off season went so quickly due to the deep playoff run the Jays went on. This off-season will be long as hell as all the other ones the previous 20 years.
  24. Nice Gibbons. Bring in a s***** Sept call up in a 2 run game. Only 3 more weeks and Gibbons never manages again. One can only dream. Obviously my dream of the Jays winning the WS and firing Gibby the next morning is not going to happen.
  25. Not that it will hurt Edwin, but removing the qualifying offer greatly increases a free agent's stock. If the Jays were out of it at the deadline and moved those two, I think they easily would have accepted it. Bautista in particular as the QO might hurt him this winter.
