  1. Pagan is a clear upgrade in the outfield, and the Jays are interested in this douche? I mean, I guess he makes sense to back-up Donaldson at 3B in case of injury, and Travis at 2B when Devon goes on his 3 month trip to the DL, but is Lawrie even better than Barney at this point? Now if they sign Pagan AND Lawrie, and replace Zeke and Smoak, then we're talking. IMproves the team and more versatile bench. Don't see that happening though.
  2. Syndergaard is still the man.
  3. The plan of Smoak continuing to suck so that Pearce gets full-time ABs at first is already looking promising. Keep dem K's coming, Justin.
  4. Travis misses half the season with something. Sanchez and Happ regress, Stroman and Liriano improve. Pearce ends up with a higher WAR than Encarnacion (yes I went there!) Morales has a better season than expected (1.5-2.0 WAR). Carrera gets way too many AB's and has an April so awful that he gets demoted. Smoak, see Carrera.
  5. The neck bearded mouth breathers on Sportsnet Canada are going to conveniently forget that they blasted the front office for not wanting Price back a year ago. Price is a good dude so not happy he's hurt. Sucks for him. That huge ass contract is probably nice to fall back on though.
  6. Smoak s***ing the bed in ST so badly that even the F.O. says "f*** this" would be great. Give Pearce all the AB's he can get.
  7. Gibbons had to have learned his lesson from last year.
  8. Yeah, he definitely won't start the season in the bigs for that reason (nevermind having Pearce and Smoak on the roster). This regime actually cares about service time and options. It wouldn't surprise me if he spends all of 2017 in AAA unless Pearce/Smoak both crash hard and he is tearing the cover off the ball. With Morales at DH, Tellez's only open spot is 1B, and Smoak/Pearce are two players the F.O. likes a lot. Don't see him being a factor in 2017. Maybe 2018.
  9. "Story of the spring" on February 28 and, what, 3 games in? Wilner's gonna Wilner.
  10. The amount of deferred money given by the Nats over the last few years is probably well over nine figures by now.
  11. Keith Law needs to hate all Jays prospects.
  12. Yeah seriously. Sign Pagan and cut your losses with Zeke.
  13. I like reading Sickels' lists. He may not watch all the games but his lists are always pretty informative. I'd rather read his stuff than Keith Law's.
  14. If he's going to play everyday, or in a platoon against RHP, then I hope so. I thought he was a breakout candidate in 2015. Not so much anymore, but I guess stranger things have happened.
  15. Imagine living in a world where Smoak wasn't extended? Pearce at first, maybe Pagan or Moss in LF (using JS's salary), get rid of Zeke, and we're good to go.
  16. I think it is pretty clear in this case that the love affair with Smoak is with the front office, and not Gibby. Carrera is a different story. I think there will be games next season where Gibby plays Zeke over Pearce, and it will drive me nuts, but he's been pretty transparent with his actions that he's not a Smoak fan. Hell, in 2015, I actually thought Smoak should have played more when his power was finally coming together, and Gibby still benched him (some times for Fatty at DH).
  17. Wouldn't surprise me if Pearce isn't ready for opening day and the Jays are bracing for that by selling Smoak as being given a chance. Otherwise, this talk makes no damn sense (Smoak at 1st, Pearce in LF, and two OF's on the bench).
  18. I get Manfred's agenda. Fans are on the older side, and for the game to stay relevant they'll need to get younger eye balls onto the sport. The issue is, what the hell is going to be accomplished by getting rid of the IBB and just awarding 1B to the hitter? These cosmetic changes don't really accomplish anything. Pitchers turning into Buehrle as far as pace, and batters stepping out less? That might help. Shaving 30 seconds for something that doesn't happen that often to begin with is a case of not seeing the forest for the trees.
  19. The best internal option is Pearce at first and Upton in left. So naturally, let's have Smoak at first, and either Pearce risking injury in the outfield, or Carrera (who can't hit righties) playing everyday against them. The way to avoid Gibby hurting the team is to give him a dummy proof roster. Smoak and Zeke do not accomplish that, although Smoak's playing time might be the front office's idea.
  20. Colby looks like someone who will end up on Dateline one day.
  21. The Jays competing for the playoffs. Shapiro and Atkins continuing to build the system up while the big league team competes.
  22. This is why they should have signed Valbuena.
  23. If the Jays actually had pitching prospects above the low minors, they wouldn't need to do as much of it, but yeah, this is pretty typical. Good pitchers don't sign minor league deals or agree to start a season in the minors to serve as depth, so you take chances on guys like Latos and Floyd, and hope you get something.
  24. That big ass space in the picture between Stro and Sanchez probably won't help the rumors of their shattered bromance.
  25. He had about the most humbling year ever, between getting hurt twice, becoming a meme by being the receiving end of a punch, and ending up with 1/18 after asking for 5/150 the year before. Dude better be motivated.
