  1. He was offered 4-80 and ended up with 3-60. The agent looks worse.
  2. Isn't it widely known that autograph seekers are mostly scum trying to make money? I'm not talking about the kids that idolize players or people with collections, but the ones similar to the one in the Alex Rios temper tantrum video who use kids to get signatures and then get angry when the player isn't kowtowing to them.
  3. If Philly signs Bautista they will almost certainly trade him mid-season, especially if he bounces back.
  4. He was quoting a Lauryn Hill song. The only negative of that is the song sucks, but can't hold that against him.
  5. Stroman fathered Sanchez last winter and now Stroman is the son in the eyes of the Jays media and fans. It's a whole bunch of "who cares" to me anyway. As long as they stay healthy and keep pitching well they can despise each other for all I care.
  6. They don't (only Beeston did) but Boras guys very rarely sign extensions. Half joking about him being traded but if the Jays decide to take a step back in the next year or two, then he becomes a logical guy to move.
  7. Sanchez is apparently a Scott Boras client now. So, how soon does he get traded? He definitely won't be signing an extension.
  8. They might sign Jose to a deal for the QO, or maybe something like 2/35, but $20-25mm for one year? No way that happens.
  9. Yeah, it should be Morales replacing Edwin and Pearce replacing Smoak. Replacing Bautista and Saunders is TBD. Gibbons seems to hate Smoak as much as the rest of us, so I'm confident that if they are dumb enough to start with a platoon of Smoak/Pearce, it won't last long. The fact that Pompey is projected to be worth more than Saunders next season makes me think that they can replace MS fairly easily. It's Bautista that will need to be replaced, not his 2016 performance, but his projected performance (2-3 WAR).
  10. Give up a comp pick and spend a good majority of whatever the team has left to spend this winter for one year of Bautista? F That. If they sign him it better be either a really cheap one year deal (think Nelson Cruz a few years ago) or a team friendly deal that gives the Jays an option or two. Otherwise, I'm sure they can spread the money around effectively with whatever is left even with a crap FA market (Moss, Valbuena).
  11. Well they did jump on Morales and Pearce early in the off-season, likely guys they valued and wanted to get right out of the gate, and were vilified for it because they couldn't predict Encarnacion's market crashing a month later. Damned if you, damned if you don't.
  12. The Jays may not want to be in a position where they sign Moss and someone else, for example, and then Bautista is out there in March still looking for a job. I don't think that would happen, as JB is too good of a player to not sign somewhere (you would think), but if they see the pick slipping away, then I could definitely see the front office just saying screw it and signing him to a short-term deal. I really wanted 3 1st round picks, but the FA market sucks, and they don't want to trade prospects, so there's not much to choose from.
  13. With Morales at DH, Smoak/Pearce at 1B, and Bautista's huge ego probably making him think he can still play the OF, is it really a reach to think what I suggested would happen? I'm sure Gibbons will listen to the front office if they specifically tell him to play JB at 1B/DH more than the OF, but if they just give him the pieces and let him do with them what he wishes, then I could easily see JB playing RF everyday with occasional starts at DH. The FO and JB would have to agree to a move to 1B, and really, with Pearce already being a superior 1B defensively, it seems kind of counter productive.
  14. We already know Pearce is an above average defensive player at 1B, so yeah, I think Pearce at 1B and JB in left is probably the better alternative. Although with Gibbons managing I'm positive JB would play RF everyday because he wants to prove he can still do it and Gibbons would let him. Just have to acquire a good defensive LF (or hope Pompey is ready to platoon with Upton) to compensate for the lack of D from Bautista.
  15. Trading for Dyson is the only way I'd be comfortable with Jose in the OF. He'd still be awful, but at least Pillar and Dyson would be studly in two of the OF spots. If they do bring back Jose, I think it's more likely we'll see Pearce in LF, Bautista in RF, and Smoak at 1B against RHP, and then Pearce at 1B and Upton in LF against LHP.
  16. People have criticized them for jumping early on Morales before Edwin's market played out. Even if they don't want Jose back, they can still wait this market out. If Jose signs elsewhere, then they can move on. If he doesn't, and other options do not materialize, then he's a fallback. That's my guess on how they are playing the situation right now.
  17. I think they are waiting on Jose. If they sign two OF's and then Jose is still without a job by the time spring starts, then they might see the pick starting to slip away. I'd be shocked if Bats isn't signed by some team next month, but that might be the shoe to drop before we see some movement.
  18. Having both Morales and Edwin on the roster never made any sense. So while signing Morales did not rule out re-signing EE, it definitely made it less desirable.
  19. As mentioned Moss had one terrible month (Sept) with a really low BABIP. Unless it was related to some kind of injury that I'm not aware of, I'll chalk it up to some bad luck. If platooned, he would be a fine option, though I don't want him and Smoak in the same lineup. I mean I don't want Smoak in any lineup, but you get my point. If they could add another OF that doesn't need to be platooned in addition to Moss, and then play Pearce everyday at first, I'd be fine with that.
  20. Yeah, Moss grades out average in the outfield corners but he's a butcher at first, for some reason. I'd be fine with him. Hits loads of flyballs and good hard contact rate. Might bump his HR totals playing at RC. Hell they could probably sign Moss and Valbuena for the same cost as the QO.
  21. I like Valbuena especially since he gives the team a legit 3B option if Donaldson has to rest or miss time that isn't Barney or Goins. Definitely adds to the versatility. Would make having Smoak on the roster completely pointless though, if it isn't already.
  22. Well, they gave up the 11th pick in the 1st round so they could pay $70m to first baseman Ian Desmond. Incredibly stupid seems pretty accurate regardless.
  23. He still has 3/60 left from ages 34-36, though. The first two years he made 2/22. McCann had 2/34 left on his deal and the Yankees had to chip in $11m when trading him. Martin is not a movable piece, which was my point.
  24. Signing Happ, Estrada, Morales, Pearce, and Guirrel count as spending on free agents. They won't spend more money than they are comfortable spending, which might take them out of the running on players like Fowler when other teams offer 5 or more years, but who the hell wants Fowler for five+ years? I thought Martin was a good signing and the Jays couldn't give him away for free at this point with 3/60 left on his deal. Free agent contracts more often than not suck to the high heavens, especially when the player is on the wrong side of 30. On a 2-3 year deal you could live with it, and I would have lived with Edwin for that amount of years, but they moved on before his market crashed. Stuff happens. Spending that much money on two DH's wouldn't make any sense. Once they signed Morales, it was a wrap for Edwin.
  25. Edwin and Pearce would have cost $10m more than Morales/Pearce, so it might have impacted who they could have gotten for the outfield. That remains to be seen since they haven't fixed those holes yet.
