  1. Keith Law needs to hate all Jays prospects.
  2. Yeah seriously. Sign Pagan and cut your losses with Zeke.
  3. I like reading Sickels' lists. He may not watch all the games but his lists are always pretty informative. I'd rather read his stuff than Keith Law's.
  4. If he's going to play everyday, or in a platoon against RHP, then I hope so. I thought he was a breakout candidate in 2015. Not so much anymore, but I guess stranger things have happened.
  5. Imagine living in a world where Smoak wasn't extended? Pearce at first, maybe Pagan or Moss in LF (using JS's salary), get rid of Zeke, and we're good to go.
  6. I think it is pretty clear in this case that the love affair with Smoak is with the front office, and not Gibby. Carrera is a different story. I think there will be games next season where Gibby plays Zeke over Pearce, and it will drive me nuts, but he's been pretty transparent with his actions that he's not a Smoak fan. Hell, in 2015, I actually thought Smoak should have played more when his power was finally coming together, and Gibby still benched him (some times for Fatty at DH).
  7. Wouldn't surprise me if Pearce isn't ready for opening day and the Jays are bracing for that by selling Smoak as being given a chance. Otherwise, this talk makes no damn sense (Smoak at 1st, Pearce in LF, and two OF's on the bench).
  8. I get Manfred's agenda. Fans are on the older side, and for the game to stay relevant they'll need to get younger eye balls onto the sport. The issue is, what the hell is going to be accomplished by getting rid of the IBB and just awarding 1B to the hitter? These cosmetic changes don't really accomplish anything. Pitchers turning into Buehrle as far as pace, and batters stepping out less? That might help. Shaving 30 seconds for something that doesn't happen that often to begin with is a case of not seeing the forest for the trees.
  9. The best internal option is Pearce at first and Upton in left. So naturally, let's have Smoak at first, and either Pearce risking injury in the outfield, or Carrera (who can't hit righties) playing everyday against them. The way to avoid Gibby hurting the team is to give him a dummy proof roster. Smoak and Zeke do not accomplish that, although Smoak's playing time might be the front office's idea.
  10. Colby looks like someone who will end up on Dateline one day.
  11. The Jays competing for the playoffs. Shapiro and Atkins continuing to build the system up while the big league team competes.
  12. This is why they should have signed Valbuena.
  13. If the Jays actually had pitching prospects above the low minors, they wouldn't need to do as much of it, but yeah, this is pretty typical. Good pitchers don't sign minor league deals or agree to start a season in the minors to serve as depth, so you take chances on guys like Latos and Floyd, and hope you get something.
  14. That big ass space in the picture between Stro and Sanchez probably won't help the rumors of their shattered bromance.
  15. He had about the most humbling year ever, between getting hurt twice, becoming a meme by being the receiving end of a punch, and ending up with 1/18 after asking for 5/150 the year before. Dude better be motivated.
  16. It's a minor league deal. $1mm if he makes the team with $500k in incentives.
  17. I would be surprised if it was a major league deal. Probably a minor league deal where he will get $1.5mm if he makes the team.
  18. Happ is signed through 2018. Estrada and Liriano will be free agents after 2017. Biagini filling one of 2018 spots would be a big boost.
  19. They seem to be discussing a minor league deal. Ben Nicholson Smith was just stating what his salary would be if he made the big league roster. That makes more sense.
  20. The team has no SP depth even with their existing five starters. Subtracting one of those five for Latos does nothing to improve the depth and makes the rotation worse. No way that's the reason for their interest here. More likely they want a swing man to fill whatever role Chavez had last season. Maybe this means they don't have faith in Bolsinger and plan to see if he can clear waivers before the start of the season (assuming it's a MLB deal). My guess is it's a minor league deal if it does happen.
  21. I don't mind if the Jays take it slow with Pearce in April since he's coming back from injury, but dammit he better be starting everyday at some point.
  22. Stroman won his arbitration case. He gets $3.4mm.
  23. Biagini in AAA, Floyd in the pen.
  24. "The Jays’ off-season signings again were economically prudent, but Jose Bautista is 36, Kendrys Morales and J.P. Howell 33, Joe Smith 32. Meanwhile, first baseman Justin Smoak occupies a spot that could go to a better bat (Pedro Alvarez?) and the bullpen could fall under immediate scrutiny if Howell and/or Smith do not throw well in the spring." That was Rosenthal's quote. I don't think that's suggesting the Jays are after a 1B.
  25. Tabata is s*** but whatever. Just a minor league deal. Maybe they can tweak his swing or something.
