    Penciling DS at 2B must have been of the most difficult decisions JS has ever made as manager.

    I’m honestly not sure if DS is good either, whether due to his reputation (with velocity) or how the Jays use him, or both. If you play him too much then he might get exposed. I just think with his skill set, age, and power, he deserves more playing time given the alternatives. Nothing can be worse than being benched for IKF, so I won’t insult Lukes that much, but it needs to be closer to a split of playing time with more than emphasis on DS getting more time, I said in the off season I thought Luke’s’ 2026 projections were very optimistic. I think he’s closer to a 90 wRC+ guy than above average. If the Jays end up playing him a lot then I hope I’m wrong.

    It really should be. I mentioned in the other thread, he has a 79 wRC+ since the 2nd half of last season (and then a 90 wRC+ in the playoffs batting 2nd most of the time). Thanks for the solid 2025 season, but the fairy dust is gone.

    Good to see DS in the lineup against a righty with Barger out. SWR only throws 92-93 mph so that's probably a big reason for it (plus the Twins pen has no velocity as mentioned) but could have easily started Lukes instead.

    The thing is, if there were a LH starter who threw 100 mph on the mound, then DS would start against him and bat 2nd. So if he can't hit velocity, then you would think they wouldn't care about a LHP or RHP, they'd focus more on the type of pitcher on the mound. Unless they think he's fine against velocity as long as it's not a RHP, even though as mentioned DS hits RHP better. Maybe there's something in the numbers to suggest that, I don't know. It's just a strange usage. Starting IKF over any competent big leaguer is/was insanity, so I'd like to know their reasoning. With that said, Lukes since the 2nd half of last season has a 79 wRC+ in 243 PA. Against RHP over that span, it's 73. His BB% over that span around 5%. They got a mirage season out of a journeyman in a "team of destiny" run. We will see how long of a leash Lukes gets based on 2025, but DS should be getting more time over Lukes against RHP with Barger out.

    The schedule aside from the Dodgers has been easy, so 5-7 looks bad (and it is), but given how bad the bats have been combined with the injuries, they have to figure out a way to hold their head above water for a couple of months as players come back from injury and the hitters regress positively. Hopefully if/when that happens, even against tougher opponents, it will lead to more success.

    I don't want to rehash the World Series last year (we've all struggled enough with that), but it really shows you that you have to take advantage of the "team of destiny" run when it happens. Like last year the Jays could have pinch hit IKF for Barger in the 9th inning with Mason Miller on the mound and it would have worked out. JS could have made decisions based on flipping a coin and it would have worked like 90% of the time. Then the following year the team looks (on paper) to be just as good if not deeper than that 2025 team and then players start getting hurt left and right within the first week of the season. There's still an eternity left in the season and I still expect the Jays to make it to the playoffs (as a WC team.....I think the Yankees might be legit with that pitching staff), but it just goes to show you how fleeting success could be sometimes, and how hard it is to win a title.

    If they plan to platoon Barger and decided to keep Lukes on the roster rather than get a capable RHB instead, thereby making Straw the other half of that platoon, then man that’s disappointing.

    Glad to see the Pirates actually spending money and locking up what should be a core piece. They have a real chance over the next 4 seasons (Skenes' remaining years of control) to build something resembling a competitive window. Wonder if this means Skubal signs before December 1. If there's a cap then he wouldn't be able to operate in a free market anymore. We saw lots of players just before the last lockout sign their deals (Gausman being one).

    I think I prefer the schedule easing up late in the year rather than right out of the gate. A 4-2 start feels disappointing now.

    Using Hoffman last night in a 5-1 game (basically the perfect time to use someone like Nance against a s***** team) and having to go to him again today is prime JS.

    Little has been bad for a while now. Not sure what the Jays are expecting here. I know he did well for early parts of 2025 before the league figured him out, but the power of 2025 nostalgia shouldn't override common sense here. He is walking 7 per nine since June of last season. It's not happening despite his stuff.

    That sucks for Ponce. Not sure what the injury is but hopefully he can come back from it soon. No long man in the pen so not sure what they do tonight other than the JS special, which is use everyone for an inning.

    Straw should rarely have a bat in his hands (I'm not buying his 2025 performance as something he can keep doing), but it's the first series of the season, so probably just trying to get everyone in there. If they view Barger as a platoon player moving forward then that's a separate issue.

    Angel Hernandez retiring before ABS was implemented is a damn shame.

    Okamoto looked solid at 3B and has a good approach at the plate. Cautiously optimistic that he's an above average MLB hitter. Great win. Very reminiscent of the 2025 Jays so maybe the magic is still there.
