    I have liked probably 90% of what the front office has done in the last two years, but I hope we see more trades for younger players rather than more 30-something free agent signings or relying heavily on replacement level talent. I'm preparing myself for Sogard, which would be fine if the cost is reasonable, but a trade for someone like Kemp or Profar would at least give some type of upside and youth. That's partly how the Yankees turned things around so quickly. Just took some gambles on guys like Hicks, Didi, etc, who were blocked or undervalued on other teams and they blossomed. Didn't give up much. Mix that in with some good internal development, and suddenly things move a lot quicker.

    Guirrel probably needs a full season before we know what we have with him. Urena doesn't look ready, needs more time in AA. Travis/Tulo up the middle with Profar and Kemp on the bench (or Kemp in AAA as I think he has one option left) would give the team a s*** load of versatility. Then when Tulo and Travis break in half some time during the season, you have replacements that might actually be big league level talent ready to take over. I mean, it's not going to happen, the Jays will probably end up with Sogard or something, but the off season is time for spit balling ideas.

    I'd honestly try to acquire both if the cost was reasonable, and move on from Travis (who I don't think will ever be healthy for a significant amount of time). But yeah, hard to know what it would cost. Pearce is someone an analytics team would love, and Houston wouldn't use him in the outfield so his value might actually remain high. With him seemingly being blocked by Morales and Smoak, that might be the type of deal that is possible. Maybe a reliever might be enough to get Profar, depends how Texas views him. 2B and SS are both weak spots on this team, in the bigs and in the minors. Get both of those guys and load up on depth. If only the Jays listened to me last winter when I suggested Travis for Puig when Puig's value was down.

    I'm on the Tony Kemp or Profar bandwagon. Whoever they get will basically get the plate appearances of a starting infielder so they need to get someone good or someone with at least upside to get better. Kemp as a utility player who covers for Travis once he misses 90 games is fine with me. Unfortunately that means they will keep Goins to back up SS in that scenario, but I've already accepted that Goins will be on this team longer than anyone else currently on the roster. He is the turd that refuses to go down no matter how many times you flush it.

    Yeah I'm surprised they didn't bring him back after 2014. Maybe he didn't want to come back, certainly going to San Diego is a better environment to pump your value back up, but would have been nice to keep him in relief.

    Yeah, Dickey had a pretty decent season overall. Still eats up innings and gives you average production. I don't want him back, especially if he's going to dictate who the back up catcher is again, but could do a lot worse for the #5 spot.

    It is not so much how Hoffman turns out for the Rockies, but whether he could have been used to acquire someone better than Tulo, or what he could have done with the Jays (away from Colorado).

    I tend to agree with you, but this is the first time the team has been to the playoffs since Rogers bought them. Revenue and attendance are on a different level now than it was at any time prior. Plus they seem to increase payroll when they forecast attendance dropping, hence why the payroll ballooned up mysteriously after a 73 win season in 2012 while it continued to drop after 85 and 81 win seasons the two years before that. I'd say the payroll will be around $170mm if I had to guess. Maybe a bit higher. The front office doesn't even seem that enthused about the team's chances in 2018 so I don't think the payroll will increase that much unless Rogers wants to sell hype again.

    I'm just as shocked as you are. Maybe I'm warming up to the Gibbster and his DGAF personality. Either way, I'm scared.

    Gibbons since the front office change has been fine with me. Still some derpy moments here and there, but that's with all managers. His managing in 2015 was some of the worst I have seen on a nightly basis, but that was him with a different front office. The good thing about him is he is open to adjusting his style to what the org wants, and he's clearly bought in to what the front office wants to push. He's been more than tolerable the past two seasons. Gibby 2.0. is a damn good option compared to retreads like Gardenhire. At least we don't have a stubborn old school guy who is going to do what he wants regardless. Gibbons is old school but is willing to adjust, and that's admirable.

    Cronyism in baseball (and sports in general) will always exist. That's the only reason I can think of why certain managers get so many opportunities.

    I think they'll end up picking up the option. $12m is nothing in baseball today, even by cheap ass Cleveland standards. But if they decline the option, then I'd be down for Brantley on a one year deal. The AAA outfield will probably be some combination of Alford, Teoscar (if he doesn't make the team), Pompey, Smith, etc. There's enough there to cover for Brantley's inevitable DL stint. It's not like Travis/Tulo where there's no depth at all.

    Very true. I wonder if the Yankees are grooming their parking attendant, born in the Bronx, to take over for Cashman down the road. If Shapiro ran that team, that wouldn't be possible, and it would be a travesty.

They wouldn’t exist. They would not have been given the opportunity to flourish." Ash not existing would have been awesome. I literally stopped reading after that quote. Ash being given an opportunity to flourish f***ed this org for a decade.

    Man the Yanks are going to be good for a long damn time. Have to hope Dumbrowski f***s the Red Sox sooner rather than later.

    The Yanks actually give me hope. The Jays look like they are not going to rebuild any time soon, and the Yankees are an example of a team who avoided a rebuild on purpose and still came away with a great young team. That 2015 team that hosted the WC game had one starting position player under the age of 30 (Didi). Now look at them. The Yankees are not the enemy, they are the blue print.

    The Yankees are built the way the Jays want to build their team. Don't know why people hate them. I mean, I get it, it's the freaking Yankees, but the team itself is built around drafting and great trades. In fact, they've made an effort to purposely go below the lux tax, so they are not even buying talent anymore. It's straight up good GM'ing by Cashman. I wouldn't mind the Yankees making the WS. Just lose to the Dodgers.

    Kinda of like last year's ALCS where the Jays were outscored 12-8 yet lost the series in five games.

    Isn't McGuire an elite defender, or at least very good at catcher? If his bat is for real then I would have to think he's a top prospect. I mean, he's only 22 and did well in AA despite being injured for most of the year. Really depends on whether he made an adjustment of some sort that got his bat going or it is just a small sample hot streak. His K/BB has always been good. It's just that he had Josh Thole levels of non existent power.

    Farrell's assessment of AA's Jays was spot on. His assessment also aligns with Shapiro's on player development, which isn't surprising since he was in player development for Cleveland when Shapiro was GM there. I don't want Farrell back in this org at all, but just because he is a s***** manager it doesn't mean he can't help the org in other ways. But yeah, there are younger and better minds out there to use in that spot over someone who the fanbase in Toronto justifiably hates. Maybe one of the interns they want to hire for $3/hr will prove to be better in that role.

    They worked together in Cleveland when Shapiro was GM. I knew those rumors would start.

    Matt Vasgersian needs to be the lead baseball guy over Joe Buck. His calls are always good and he gets genuinely excited in big moments, while Buck's sound bytes are beyond forgettable.

    Good to know the Jays are not ignoring the strike out rate. Hopefully he can cut that down back to normal (25% or so) while maintaining the power uptick. Could be a pretty decent player if that happens.
