  1. Age related decline.
  2. Urena and Hernandez sitting on the bench while Goins, Barney, and Saunders siphon all the available AB's would be such a 2017 thing to happen.
  3. That is a pretty good return for Verlander. The Jays were clearly not going to match that offer in terms of prospects, nevermind whether JV would have waived his ntc to come here, so it was clearly never going to happen. Wonder if the Jays could have gotten something like that from Houston for Happ at the deadline. Maybe not all those guys but at least Perez.
  4. Wasn't expecting Urena. Might as well play him everyday instead of Goins.
  5. JD wants to get paid, and Shapiro won't give a guy in his 30's a huge ass contract. He's leaving. I've already prepared for it.
  6. Morales hates the O's just as much as we do.
  7. Yeah he seems like a good trade candidate. Overpaid so shouldn't cost top prospects to acquire, and jays have the financial resources to absorb his entire contract to limit the prospects they would have to trade. Just take the whole salary and give them some s*** and maybe they'll take it over having to eat up a portion of the remaining salary. I'd do it. It's only two more years and the Jays have nothing in the minors that is beating down the door for a rotation spot.
  8. Vlad is going to be starting 3b in 2019. Book it.
  9. Just help the O's not make the playoffs. That's all I want. Lose to every other team for all I care, just beat the damn O's.
  10. Yeah, an extension for JD which starts at age 33 is just asking for a bad contract. Aging like Adrian Beltre is not the norm. Plus JD strikes me as someone who wants to test free agency and get dat cash, so he probably doesn't even want an extension right now. The only issue is what could the Jays get for him this winter? Alex Reyes and others from the Cards? I hate pitching prospects so I'd rather get young hitters. If the Jays can trade JD, Happ, and Osuna this winter, I'd consider it a success. It would suck for 2018, but could be massive for future years.
  11. His K rate has gone down since beginning his Buffalo tenure striking out a ton. I think it's at 28% now since the trade, which is still too high, but well down from the 40% it was like two weeks ago. He K'd 17 times in his first 40 plate appearances for Buffalo, and 13 in his last 65 plate appearances since. I'll give him a pass since he was starting with a new team and moving from the PCL to an actual normal environment. Long term he is probably a guy that will have trouble making consistent contact in the bigs but will have some power and hopefully value on defence and the bases.
  12. He doesn't really provide any value off the bench since he can only DH and maybe play some first. I don't expect the team to dump him. They signed him for three years for a reason. But dammit, dude is trash when he is not hitting. Provides nothing in the field or on the base paths, and is probably league average with the bat given his age.
  13. Teoscar finally hitting. Last 15 games: .295-.338-.721, 6 hr, 2/13 bb/k, 65 pa He's ready (...........to sit on the bench and watch Bautista's farewell tour).
  14. If the Jays dumped Morales and paid the rest of his salary I think it would be justified. Not only has he been terrible but running him out there at DH everyday meant playing everyone else on the field at all times and not being able to use DH as a means to rests guys. Just an awful signing. I hoped the exit velocity stuff would lead to something promising but he's the same guy just on the decline. Cut the cord.
  15. They can't possibly count on him to be an everyday 2B again. He's been injured all three seasons with the jays, and i think he was hurt in the minors for Detroit also. Dude is not reliable. Either get a utility infielder who can be expected to be a 1-2 war player over a season, or move on from Travis as an everyday player (or maybe move him somewhere where he only misses 40 games a year instead of 80). It sucks because he's really good when healthy and being injured all the time is not his fault (the body works in mysterious ways), but gotta be realistic.
  16. I know people 'love' hearing this name on this forum, but Profar wants to be traded and is out of options. If the Jays are looking for a lottery ticket that could become something in a utility role, he's the guy to go after. Worst case he sucks, best case you have something there and he's still young. Plus with Travis and Tulo as the middle infield, he would practically be guaranteed 500 plate appearances. I agree it comes down to JD. Either extend him prior to the season or trade him. Getting s*** back in return next July doesn't make sense, and I don't think there are enough off season moves that would make this team a true contender next year. Use 2018 as a way to gear up for 2019. They don't have to rebuild. Try to be a .500 team next year for all I care. Just move pieces like JD and Happ so that you can keep adding prospects to the system to hopefully give us more ammo for a run in a few years.
  17. The Orioles are going to win the 2nd Wild Card, aren't they? For as much s*** as their front office gets, if they make it again this year, that's four playoff appearances in six years despite having no farm system and a middling roster on paper practically every year. Either Showalter is that good or they sold their soul to the baseball god's. They are 9-3 against the Jays this year and have four coming up. We'll probably help them win the WC which is even worse.
  18. Yeah they are 2 games over .500 since starting the year 6-17. The 2nd WC will probably require about 82-85 wins. The Jays could have been there had it not been for that horrible start. Oh well.
  19. Seriously. This season feels like it is never going to end.
  20. Re: Aoki....The two players they picked up at the deadline and in August are both arb eligible in 2018 (Aoki, Koehler) and both were picked up when having down seasons. I mean, maybe they are buying low on them, but spending over $10mm on those two next year can't possibly be in their plans, can it?
  21. any chance the Jays just release Morales if they can't trade him this winter? Dude seriously has no value aside from his bat which is probably league average at best now that he's in his mid 30's and drilling everything into the ground. Just end the misery instead of trying to get value out of a mistake.
  22. Gotta love sports today. Accused of domestic violence? Suspended for like 30% of the season. Commit actual assault on camera on the field? 5 games.
  23. He is striking out like crazy since the trade though. Hopefully it is just SSS and being away from the PCL messing him up a bit. He's been a lot better over the last 10 games (still 27% k% over that span).
  24. I hope the rumor that Rogers told the front office to sign Bautista isn't true. That's kind of scary if it is. Cost the team a comp pick and forced the fans to watch a franchise legend deteriorate before our eyes.
  25. The Jays have 2 rotation openings in 2018, plus practically no depth in the minors. Koehler will be lucky to get a big league rotation job elsewhere, but even if he wanted to test the market, this team is probably the best fit for him if he realistically wants big league starts next year. Hell, if he leaves, he leaves, no big loss, but I could see the Jays trying to bring him back to act as depth.
