Yeah, the Jays have openings in LF and RF, plus can tell Morales to f*** off and eat up the rest of the contract if they had to in order to free up the DH spot (the excess value from Ohtani would easily make up for $23m in sunk cost by dumping Kendrys). Tell him he can play some outfield, some DH, and have a rotation spot. Have Koehler or whoever the sixth starter is get some starts here and there to give Ohtani more rest during the season. Then you can sell the high performance dept, the country, etc. If Ohtani is a liberal, then use that trump card (pun intended). Just do whatever the hell it takes as long as it doesn't break any rules.
Atkins seems confident that they can at least make a strong case, so who knows. Maybe just wishful thinking in the end, but if Ohtani's personality is as unique as they say it is, then every team probably has a shot. If he decides not to play for the Jays, then as long as he's not in the AL East, I'll be fine with it.
