  1. Goins is gone???? Holy s***, thank you Shatkins. Gift is officially my favorite player now.
  2. I'm surprised the Jays haven't traded for any international money, aside from Lane Thomas a few months ago. Still not sure how much they have as some say 50k and others say one million, but either way they could afford to add a bit more.
  3. Trollosi better not be trolling here.
  4. Yeah, this is about the least surprising news ever.
  5. The Marlins got over $100m in value out of Stanton's first three years of his 13 year deal, and only paid him $30m combined over that span. Even if they throw in $45m to get rid of him, they still would have made out with a surplus, and gotten out of a contract that will surely look like s*** in a couple of years (if it doesn't already). This is the perfect time to sell on him. Marlins got lucky he won the MVP and had the year that he did.
  6. Stanton has a NTC and close to $300m left on his contract. Statkins wouldn't go near that contract, and Stanton wouldn't waive his NTC for Toronto. The bigger question if Stanton goes to SF is how desperate does that make the Cardinals? Desperate enough to overpay for JD?
  7. I would be fine with him as a 5th or 6th starter. Looks like his velocity stayed the same, GB% stayed the same, fewer line drives, less hard contact/more soft contact, but just gave up an unusual amount of home runs. Seems like a pretty solid buy low option. With two years of control left, and 1/5.7 as the projected salary, he would be a pretty decent pick up if it cost nothing.
  8. The Jays did see a spike in ticket sales after the 2012 off season due to all the big expensive names. Hype sells in Toronto, but only to a certain point. Regardless, I don't even think Nick Markakis' mother would buy a ticket to see her son play in Toronto, much less casual Jays fans. This isn't 2008.
  9. Damn, I recall Davidi mentioning at the trade deadline that the Jays had conversations about Markakis. Now Trollosi says it. Davidi at the deadline mentioned Lowrie and Grichuk as well. I'd be ok with circling back on those two, but hard pass on Markakis.
  10. Goins will be on the 25 man roster on opening day 2018, 2019, and 2020. I'm sure of that. He might even get extended beyond that. Two different regimes, including a sabermetric one, values him despite everything aside from two months in 2015 telling us that he is absolute s***. I don't understand it, but he'll be a Jay for life. We just have to come to grips with it.
  11. Gyorko, Reyes, and another prospect, and that's something I can get behind. I like Gyorko as a replacement for JD, controllable and is a decent enough player (2+ WAR), but beyond him there better be some young players with some upside.
  12. After what I read about Tony Kemp and how he changed his swing in the minors, I wouldn't rule out the Astros. That team develops talent like crazy, and would be a good place for Ohtani to make adjustments. From a player development standpoint, they will be hard to top.
  13. Man, that trade would be the ultimate Gord Ash move. Might keep the team around the same projected win total in 2018, give or take, but doesn't add any young talent.
  14. A NL team would have to play him in the OF to get his bat in the lineup. Not sure that's a good idea for the team or for him. The AL makes way more sense. The Yankees would be the worst case scenario for us. I'd rather he go to Houston who is already a super power. I could see Texas as an option for him as well given how much they can spend plus history with Darvish. I'd be shocked if he goes to the NL. If he was just a pitcher I would have said the Dodgers, but he wants to bat and pitch, so I don't see the NL as a fit.
  15. I’m also predicting the Yankees but f*** it I think the Jays have a chance here. Ohtani seems like a strange dude who just loves baseball. If he was in it for the money he would have gotten paid in Japan for another year or two and then come over. Instead he chose to come over in order to make peanuts and is telling teams to sell him on their org. Weird dudes do weird things. I’m not expecting it to happen so I won’t be disappointed if it doesn’t but I disagree with people saying there is no chance. This is a unique and weird enough situation to give them at least a small chance.
  16. Ohtani seems like he only cares about baseball related stuff. The location will play a factor, but based on what his agent is asking for, he wants an org that will sincerely try to develop him as a two way player and is up to date on all facets of player development.
  17. That's why Manfred probably wants the juiced balls and bat flips to continue. The outrage over Bautista in 2015 was the best thing to happen to baseball because it indirectly exposed the "old white man's game" section of baseball that needs to die out in order for the sport to grow. The Yankees being young and good, while annoying to Jays fans, is probably good for the game as well since they can market a NY star a lot easier. It will be interesting to see how the major sports line up 10-20 years from now. Right now football and basketball have the leg up, but football has declined and concussions might force the next generation to choose other spots in high school and college. Manfred needs to stop fiddling around with time clocks and automatic IBB's, and focus on marketing the sport and its players a lot better.
  18. Yeah if it's not injury related I'd be surprised. He has some pretty decent projections. If he can play the infield even a little bit, he'll have value.
  19. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2017/11/dodgers-release-jose-miguel-fernandez.html No idea who this guy is but I'm going to go ahead and predict Atkins signs him to a minor league deal. Good numbers in the minors in 2017 and can apparently play a bunch of positions.
  20. Josh Harrison makes a lot of sense since he can play (a very good) 2b and 3b, plus has played some outfield. Probably a decent stop gap in 2019 when JD leaves as well. Not a big sample at short for him, but chances are Goins will be the back up there anyway just because we can't have nice things. The Pirates would trade anyone if it saved them 25 cents, and $10m is significant enough for them to possibly make a move. Not sure what they'd want in return though.
  21. This is one of the rare situations where the Jays may have had a better shot if Ohtani was an actual free agent. They still wouldn't have outbid LA or NY probably, but they could have if they wanted to. Now it is purely up to the player. Jays have a chance if they can sell the org as being one that is best for Ohtani's future, but other teams can and will do the same thing. I don't think a couple of mil will be a difference maker. If this guy cared about the money he could have made money in Japan for another year or two and came over and gotten his 9 figure contract in the U.S. when he turned 25. Jays are just going to have to sell the player development dept and city as best they can. Other than that it's out of their control.
  22. That would be the smart route. There are two players I always bring up that I won’t mention by name to avoid Brownie being triggered, but those two plus others who are blocked on other teams or coming off down seasons should be explored. There has to be a middle ground between overpaying for Nunez and counting on Ryan Goins again.
  23. Ohtani and Stanton are holding everything up. Might have to wait a few weeks before anything major happens. The free agent market being absolute dog s*** is likely a factor as well.
  24. Is it confirmed how much the Jays have to spend? I've read 50k and over $1m (after the Lane Thomas trade). That's a pretty substantial difference. I'm sure if Ohtani expressed interest in signing with the Jays, Shatkins would start trading for cap money so fast our heads would spin, but still having at least over a mil to start with is better than 50k.
  25. Ohtani making practically nothing and playing on a Yankees team that is already young and loaded, with enough money next year to hit the free agent jackpot, is a scary thought. That's my one fear with him. If he doesn't sign with the Jays, go anywhere except New York or Boston. Don't care where.
