  1. Montoyo pushed Ryu pretty hard in the opening game, but otherwise has taken starters out pretty quickly due to the abbreviated camp. Dolis probably coming in to start the 6th.
  2. A 4 pitch walk turns into an out.
  3. I don't think Shatkins wants Stroman back, and I don't think Stroman wants to go back to a team run by Shatkins. I don't see it happening. Plus, with his recent injury and the shortened season, he's probably accepting the QO anyway. Bauer is the real target, and if he truly wants to go year to year even in free agency, then it might work to the Jays benefit. Or they could sign him for a year and then lose him. Curious to see if Trev really does that.
  4. We have played really well this year. Giles' arm not blowing up (and Montoyo not being an idiot) puts us at 4-1. But s*** happens. Keep this momentum going.
  5. I vaguely remember before Galvis was put on waivers last season, Montoyo was basically setting the entire lineup around getting Galvis in there. Panik is going to play a lot. A lot. Minor league manager + big league vetrin = bad combo.
  6. I think Romano, Doleeese, Cole, and Bass have all pitched the last two games, so we're probably going to see the scrub pen options trying to close out the last 4 innings. As long as Sammy G is the closer for tonight, that's all that matters.
  7. Panik should hit higher in the lineup.
  8. Bonifacio still messing up on D 7 years later. At least the Jays are benefiting this time.
  9. See what happens when you hit the ball in the air, Vlad?
  10. Man, Buntoyo really didn't help Giles' career at all. Went on the DL in 2019, came back, pitched 3 days in a row shortly after that, then went on the DL again (Jays couldn't trade him), and now waits for Giles' arm to basically fall out of the socket before taking him out of a game, leading to this.
  11. Starting OF injured, two OF's on the bench who are out of options and who the team needs to get a good look at, so perfect time to put your starting 2B in right and play Joe Panik instead.
  12. Yeah, this plan will only work if there is rapid test results. If MLB can't do that, then I'm not sure how long they can pull this off.
  13. The Montoyo hire now that we know what he's like as a manager is baffling. He's only 3.5 years younger than Gibby, and does not manage like a Cash or Boone type who make decisions almost entirely based on internal analytics. Charlie just wings it out there, no rhyme or reason for anything he does. I get that the candidate pool to take over this team 2 years ago when the team was openly tanking was likely not very good, so best case Buntoyo is a lameduck who is keeping the seat warm, but might as well have just kept Gibbons in that case. Firing Gibbons, hiring someone worse, and then letting the inferior guy manage the young players you want to lead you to your next winning core seems really pointless.
  14. Because "must be an analytical guy because he got coffee for Kevin Cash" Montoyo likes to have set roles for his relievers from the looks of it.
  15. Hernandez's 2nd half exit velo last season was Aaron Judge-like and he bumped his walk rate up to 10%. I think there's a chance he's actually good. At least the offensive skills are there. Whether he puts it all together is another story.
  16. If Espinal is still on the team (I haven’t been paying attention to roster moves), then he should have played short. But he’s not a vetrin, so I guess not.
  17. Montoyo probably made Giles throw 20 pitches this morning just to be sure his elbow is hurt. Seriously though this is a huge loss to the pen. Romano looks good but the team will need more arms to turn into useful late inning guys.
  18. The PA and the league both suck. No sense putting more blame on one or the other. Equally bad for the sport. Adam Silver is the best example of a commish who has the game’s best interest in mind. Every other league lacks in that.
  19. Yup. In the Wild Card game, Osuna looked like he was willing to keep pitching through an injury, but Gibby immediately took him out. That was extra innings in an elimination playoff game. Montoyo doing this in the 3rd game of a truncated season is insanity. I mean it would be insanity regardless, but the timing makes it worse.
  20. The NBA has a much smaller amount of people, and didn't need to bring all the teams. A better comparison for MLB would be the NFL. If the NFL ends up in a bubble, then MLB really messed up, but that doesn't appear to be the case.
  21. The sad part about this for MLB is that the TV ratings were really good so far. Maybe it was just because nothing else was on, but people obviously missed baseball. Shutting down again would hurt the sport.
  22. The only way to trade Vlad is to build a time machine and trade him two years ago for Yelich when that's what the Marlins wanted from the Jays before settling on the Brewers offer. Now all you do is put him at 1B/DH (which they did) and hope he turns into what he was hyped to be. Preferably before 2025.
  23. The MLBPA didn't want to bubble its players. I think this was essentially 1) do what MLB ultimately did, or 2) do not have a season. No in between.
  24. Agreed, but the MLBPA was not going to agree to a bubble, which I believe is what put the kibosh on the "Florida-Arizona-Texas" bubble idea that was floated around a few months ago. I don't even know how baseball can be played in a bubble. There are just so many people involved. I don't think it was even realistic.
  25. Rob Manfred being in charge during a pandemic is one of the scariest things about this season. I was hoping for the best, but even one team having an outbreak impacts the entire season. A few players on each team was expected, but an entire team is hard to work around.
