  1. Ok, that was funny. Horrible result, but funny.
  2. Cespedes batting instead of deGrom. That seems a lot more fun. The universal DH was long overdue.
  3. Hopefully the Tropicana Curse only applies when their fans (all 6 of them) are in the stands. Let's start off hot.
  4. For all you minor league buffs, what is the park in Buffalo like? Good for pitchers, hitters, neither? I guess one benefit is that the Jays have so many young players who played there that at least there will be familiarity. Time to make some sweet Buffalo Blue Jays merch.
  5. I guess this explains part of the reasoning behind expanding the playoffs now. Not only for increased revenue in general, but becoming a more valuable commodity for ESPN. MLB already got their billion dollar deals/extensions with Fox and Turner, and now need one with ESPN. I'm sort of disappointed here as ESPN has been largely ignoring baseball for years, and actively putting it down on shows with more millennial aged hosts. More playoff games on TBS or Fox/FS1 would have been better, but Manfred wants that dough.
  6. Manfred was on during the Yankee game and said it will traditional seeding (1 vs 8, 2 vs 7, etc). Damn, what happened to pick your opponent? Oh well. Just get the 8th seed, boys.
  7. Passan saying tarp's coming off the field, so let's finish the Yankee game.
  8. The MLBPA has to agree to being mic'd up, it's not up to MLB alone.
  9. Rain delay on the first game back. 2020 folks.
  10. Angel being Angel.
  11. Damn, Stanton killed that.
  12. Jays play every game on the road, make the playoffs, play every playoff game on the road, win the World Series = Put a banner up in Canada. Let's do this. But yes, this means the Jays have a real shot at one of the WC spots. Whichever projected mediocre/average teams can have the hotter starts between teams like Toronto, LAA, Texas, White Sox, etc, will find their way in. I'm fine with it in a 60 game season. Just means more baseball.
  13. I like this idea. Might be too gimmicky for some, but the traditional "Team X plays Team Y because of their record" can get boring. This idea would create an additional form of content (selection show), which would be great to promote the game assuming the teams have their star player be the one announcing the team's selected opponent on TV. Plus make the first round playoff matchups more personal rather than just a formality based off record.
  14. Maryland governor is a Republican, so at least there is a glimmer of hope of this being accepted, but at this rate I'm not expecting it.
  15. The moment they expand the playoffs once, they will never go back. Just like the universal DH. There's way too much TV money to be made, and once they get fans back to attend playoff games there will be more gate money as well. If 16 teams are making it in 2020, then it will change moving forward, IMO. This is where they need to have expansion though, because 16 out of 30 is more than half the league. That's a bit ridiculous. I say start with 14 teams in 2021, and then 16 teams once they add two teams in expansion, whenever that is.
  16. Damn. The best chance the Jays would have at a playoff spot in 4 years, and they'll be using someone's backyard as a home ballpark. Either way, hope it happens. Even if you're not a fan of expanded playoffs, the one year it would make sense is in a 60 game season. It would mean a good team that starts off poorly isn't as penalized for it, and an average team that flukes their way in will have to work that much harder in the playoffs to keep advancing. Of course if this happens it would be purely a financial move, but still, would help the game for this season.
  17. Agreed. I'm not expecting any state to approve them at this rate aside from Florida. Might have to play all the home games on the road, if even that is allowed.
  18. I believe Shapiro said Dunedin checks off all the boxes, it just happens to be in the Covid hotspot, which is why they are not considering it. If Florida were in better shape in terms of the virus, they'd probably be in Dunedin right now.
  19. The Phillies play the AL/NL East, so they'll have games against the Rays and Marlins, never mind the Pirates already playing in their stadium. That quote from Levine makes no sense. Jays might have to bite the bullet and play in Dunedin.
  20. Heyman is saying it's 12 years for "about $350M". His 2020 salary is $27m ($10 million prorated), so he's looking at 13/360 (or thereabouts) from 2020 onwards if Heyman's number is correct. Or 12.37/360 since 2020 is playing 37% of the normal schedule. Baseball agents don't seem to look at AAV, but rather total value of the contract, so Betts is getting about $29m AAV when he's worth a lot more than that, but gets the biggest non Trout contract in MLB history in terms of overall dollars.
