  1. Gibby doesn't need to come back, just hire someone better than Montoyo. That shouldn't be too difficult. Hopefully.
  2. The irony being that the Jays probably had more Latin players each year in 2013-18 than they do 2019-present (in the Majors). I really hope that wasn't the reason they chose Charlie. As far as developing young players, from 2014-16 (prime contention years for the Jays), they were able to develop Stroman, Sanchez, Travis, Pillar, and Osuna in the midst of a playoff run. Not only developed, but these guys were major contributors to those playoff teams almost instantly. I see no reason why Gibbons couldn't have handled the rebuild if they approached him and told him that they wanted him around for a while, and as mentioned I don't see why Gibbons wouldn't have stayed if they wanted him to (rebuild and all). Letting someone go and then hiring someone 10 times worse is just so bad.
  3. If they offered Gibbons an extension in the summer of 2018, I'd bet money he would have taken the deal. It's not like he was going to leave and immediately find work elsewhere. He may never have a manager job again. If he stays, even in a rebuild, he adds more wins to his record and possibly becomes the winningest manager in franchise history someday. I highly doubt he chose to leave unless he already saw the writing on the wall.
  4. Yeah when the regional alignment of the schedule was first talked about, I assumed teams would play two 5 game series' against their division rivals so they never had to travel to that spot again. Hell, even a 10 game series would have made sense to avoid travel at all. Instead it was the standard 2-4 game series' with more travel than necessary. Not only did they not want a bubble, but they even messed up the non bubble scheduling. I almost think baseball was better off not coming back because of players and owners fighting about money. Now they've not only fought about money, but proven they are incompetent in the wake of a pandemic when every other league is probably going to finish their seasons.
  5. The fact that they let the Marlins play last Sunday, but are now postponing games for coaches testing positive tells me that they never had a plan to begin with. Everything is reactionary. MLB and MLBPA are both equally guilty here. Neither side cared about the sport at all. Just about the $$. That's why the NBA will not only get through their season but grow their audience these next few months, while MLB is left in the dust. Manfred/Clark are going to ruin this sport long term. /rant
  6. Yeah, baseball isn't going to finish the 2020 season.
  7. Hernandez picking up where he left off in the 2nd half of last year. He's crushing balls right now.
  8. Yeah this seems like such an easy solution. Jays play the Phillies 6 times and Nats 4 times. Just change it to Nats 7 times and Phillies 3 times. What difference does it make? You can't legitimize something that most don't find legitimate anyway, so just try to cram 60 games in any way possible. If Jays/Nats doesn't happen this weekend, then Manfred does not have a creative bone in his body.
  9. The NBA starts tonight. I don’t know jack about hockey but I’m sure Canada’s attention will be on that sport over the Jays. The NFL is close but they are using the MLB approach to the season so who knows how far they get. MLB had a week to themselves, got some good ratings out of it, but I can’t imagine US or Canada’s attention will be on baseball from now until the end of the year. Too many other things going on. I’m curious to see what happens to viewership for all sports. MLB still does well regionally so that’s likely not going to change as long as games are played.
  10. So a bunch of Marlins players test positive, and they still play on Sunday, but two non players test positive for the Phillies, and a whole series is cancelled. Makes sense. Buntoyo is going to survive another year because this season is so ridiculous that it’s utterly meaningless except for getting players some development time.
  11. Since the Nats games this weekend are cancelled, might as well just have the Jays/Nats play Fri-Sat, and reduce the amount of games between the Jays/Phillies by 3.
  12. The problem with that reasoning is that Montoyo doesn't appear to be managing in either direction. He plays Panik over Fisher one day, which is anti rebuilding, but then he's trying out mop up guys in high leverage spots which is more of a tanking/dgaf decision another day. He refuses to take out an injured Giles in order to get a win against the Rays, but then uses Yamaguchi in two extra inning games with a runner on 2nd instead of extending his better relievers past an inning of work. Nothing Montoyo does makes any sense as far as team direction. I agree that he was not brought in to win, but in that case he better have a short leash as manager. Fire him after this season and hire someone who you expect to help the team win.
  13. Yeah, eye test and stats both say he is s***. At least someone like Dolis looks like he could be effective, but Yamaguchi looks awful.
  14. I think what scares me is that Shatkins handpicked this guy. He either lied in the job interview, or this is what the front office wanted. I'm not sure which is worse.
  15. Who the f*** scouted Yamaguchi?
  16. Yamaguchi pitching and Vlad starting on 2nd in the bottom half. Ugh.
  17. Please end it here. Yamaguchi with a runner starting on 2nd is a scary damn thought next inning.
  18. Bunt with 2 strikes, don't steal with probably your 2 fastest guys on base. Montoyo is playing 4D chess.
  19. Damn. Just have to tip your cap there.
  20. Fisher having much better AB's this year so far (very SSS).
  21. Man I wish Alford knew how to hit.
  22. High Leverage Sam leaves without a run being scored.. That's why Charlie gets paid the big bucks.
  23. When Gaviglio was pitching in Tampa, Buck was hyping him up like he was actually good.
  24. Not watching, was Buck on Gaviglio's nuts like he was last time he blew a game for us?
  25. Sammy G coming in soon. Well, it was fun while it lasted.
