  1. He benched the best hitter on the team so far (whose statcast numbers back up his performance) in favor of Joe Panik, and apparently "splits" were the reason why, despite Hernandez being above average against righties in his career (killing them so far this year) and Panik is Ryan Goins against them the last few years. This is going to be a long 60 games.
  2. Again, I think it's a fair question to ask. Teams are going to have failures. Not every prospect pans out, and not every intriguing guy with tools is fixable, but the Jays under Shatkins haven't had much success in developing/acquiring impact MLB bats. The Jays have one of the best hitting prospects in many years and he's drilling ground balls at a 75% clip. If 20-21 year old Vlad was a Yankee, would his GB rate be this problematic? Possibly, but my guess is no. Ultimately talent is required, and the Jays have talent, so a year or two from now the outlook is likely going to be dramatically different, but some orgs are better than others at player development. The Jays under the current regime have a lot of catching up to do in this area.
  3. Montoyo looks terrified every time I see him. Complete deer in headlights. Even if the Jays were screwed on a play, I can't see him arguing it. Seems like a complete pushover.
  4. Pinch hitting for a guaranteed professional AB in Panik would be a travesty.
  5. Buntoyo playing chess while the rest of the world playing checkers.
  6. That's our manager folks.
  7. Nice shot by Bo.
  8. I'm trying to think of a worse manager, and I'm drawing a blank. I don't even think Buck Martinez was this bad. This is "how in the world is this man employed in baseball at all" levels of bad.
  9. Ok, I know I am fixating on this, but I never looked at Hernandez's splits before. Just looked them up. vs RHP 2020: 28 PA, 254 wRC+, .360/.393/.920 (1.313 OPS) 17-19: 725 PA, 109 wRC+, .242/.305/.486 (.790 OPS) Those numbers above don't account for vetrin presents or the WAR that comes with intangiblez, two areas that Panik shines in, so take it with a grain of salt.
  10. I'm not even mad at Charlie anymore. He has no business on a big league bench, but someone had to hire him to be the manager. This is on Atkins.
  11. Buntoyo definitely playing 4D chess. Since 2018 Panik has a 71 wRC+ against RHP in 512 PA, so bench the best hitter on the team so far to get dat sweet vetrin bat in the lineup. I swear, the Rays only kept that man employed to get Cash coffee every game. I can't think of one damn thing he could contribute to a team as analytical as the Rays. The Yankees fired Girardi after losing in game 7 of the ALCS. Atkins better grow a set and do the right thing this winter.
  12. Is Teoscar hurt? Playing Joe Panik over him when the team just had 4 days off earlier is insane, even by Buntoyo's standards. He's been our best position player so far.
  13. That's why I said MLB development. The Yankees can identify Hicks, Didi, Urshela, Voit, Tauchman, etc, and turn them around almost instantly. That's not a fluke. Either they are cheating or they are superior in developing hitters than just about anyone (I'll assume the latter for now). The Jays don't have that track record at the big league level. They look very good at drafting and international scouting, but we have to see that manifest into MLB results. The Yankees aren't perfect either. They fell in love with Drury before the Jays did, but sold as high as they could when they couldn't fix him. Either way, the Jays have time. It's still early in the careers of their top young players.
  14. The Yankees have a track record of developing hitters recently. Not many teams have that sort of consistent success turning hitters around. He went into the right situation and got fixed. That never would have happened here in all likelihood. I do think it's fair to question the MLB development for the Jays (Vlad looks like a mess and he's as close to can't miss as there is as an offensive talent) but Urshela is not an example of that.

    NBA Thread

2nd in the East is close to locked up which is important. The difference between playing Orlando/Brooklyn in the first round and possibly the Sixers is huge.
  16. I would have kept Hatch in there.
  17. He should, but Montoyo is Montoyo.
  18. Hatch is the real deal. He'll be in the 2021 rotation from day 1 (health permitted).
  19. Didn't Ryu throw 100 pitches on opening night, or close to it? And if I recall he was out of gas way before he was taken out. I mean, it is what it is. As long as Hatch goes multiple innings, I'm fine with it.
  20. This ump is equally bad to both pitchers. He's all over the place.
  21. Don't know why the Braves cut that throw off, but thank you.
  22. Yeah I don't mind Shaw being platooned, but if Drury is the only option to play that role, then might as well keep Shaw in there everyday. Drury sucks against everyone.
  23. That’s TJ #2 for Osuna. He has a better chance of recovering than a SP would, but he’s out until 2022 at the earliest. Career definitely in jeopardy.
