  1. Man, I was going to say that the Twitter reaction might actually be good for baseball since everyone is piling up on Woodward and Tingler and praising Tatis (even older players are sticking up for Tatis), but the apology brings that down. Tatis is one of the most exciting and charismatic players in the league. If Jayce f'n Tingler is going to zap that swag out of him at a young age, then yeah, that's not good for the sport.
  2. Not surprised. Bannister is gone, but Rangers are still unlikable.
  3. Even Jomboy thinks Montoyo is a wimp. I'm glad non Jays fans see what we all see.
  4. The one I've commonly heard is don't steal a base late in the game with a huge lead. I guess I can understand that one, but now you can't swing either? Why not just have a mercy rule and end the game early then? I'm so glad this BS is getting destroyed on Twitter. It's not even a MLB thing, it's two dimwit managers. Just saw that Tingler was part of the Rangers org prior to this season, which explains a lot. Stand up for your old employer rather than your superstar. He's not doing himself any favors there. The Rangers better not plunk Tatis for this.
  5. MLB about to neuter another one of its young stars. Bad enough Woodward complained about it, but Texas only hires 'PLAY DA GAME DA RITE WAY' guys to manage their teams apparently (Bannister was worse), so that's not all that surprising. The Padres manager supporting the unwritten rules instead of sticking up for his player is straight BS, though.
  6. 2018 Grichuk power profile with 2020 Grichuk plate discipline would be a damn good player. Hopefully he has figured something out.
  7. You could have asked this question three years ago and it still would have applied. Angels would rather keep him and lose wins than eat his salary and get an upgrade. I know it’s a s*** ton of money, but still. Gonna have to pay it regardless. Might as well not let it hurt you on the field.
  8. I don’t think anyone is expecting anything crazy, but something like record based off 2019-20 or 2018-20 rather than just 2020 record seems like a plausible scenario that Manfred could implement. In that scenario even if the Jays had the 2nd worst record in 2020, they might end up with a pick between 5-10 (haven’t looked at the records). That would also penalize the Red Sox who are clearly tanking due to injuries and Covid. Or since Manfred loves TV deals, he might implement a lottery based off 2020 record that he could air on TV. Who knows. My point was, no one knows what the draft will be like, so where the Jays finish in 2020 might not matter. Although clearly losing a lot won’t hurt the draft slot. With Bo out and a truncated season, I’m fine with a tank job the rest of the way. It’s only 40 more games.
  9. On one hand, I wouldn't mind if the Jays did this with Kirk who is probably an upgrade at DH today over anyone the Jays currently have, but the thought of Kirk sitting on the bench 5 days a week so Panik and Tellez can play instead is enough to end that idea for me. On that note, I hope more teams, including the Jays, stop gaming service time going forward. We can discuss the merits of doing it for development, but players getting paid earlier in their career is definitely needed in this sport.
  10. The Cardinals are not going to have the same number of games played as everyone else, as one example. There might be other teams throughout the course of the season that face that issue depending on potential outbreaks, postponed games, etc. I don't think the draft order will be as cut and dry in this case, and if Manfred has the power to change it (which he does), then I wouldn't assume anything. Finishing with the 2nd worst record may not mean what we think it means. It's up to Manfred and the MLBPA.
  11. Yeah doesn’t Manfred have control over the draft order? I remember reading that if the season is shorter than X amount of games (think it was 80) that he’d be able to determine the draft order in any way he wanted. That’s a scary thought.
  12. Bautista got to 1st base quicker on his Bat Flip than Vlad did there.
  13. Man, never heard Buck so deflated.
  14. Whoever is managing for Montoyo is like his clone.
  15. When eternal optimist Buck Martinez is laying in to Hernandez, you know he messed up.
  16. If this coaching staff lasts beyond this season, there is a problem. Not only is the managing terrible, but the mistakes on the field are embarrassing. Tighten that s*** up.
  17. Yeah sucks for Alford, but I meant fans have to laugh it off. He had a hard hit out in his 1st AB, a HR, and then a called strike 3 on ball 4. He had a great day.
  18. Why is Gurriel a defensive replacement?
  19. That was ball 4, but at this point just have to laugh it off.
  20. Didn't Kay throw 40 pitches on Friday? Why is he throwing 30 today? Man, this coaching staff really sucks.
  21. Forget about MLB or the MLBPA, the umpire's union is the most dangerous group in baseball.
  22. It wasn't a strike, but it was called a strike twice in Grichuk's at bat. Pretty much the exact same location. Carapazza is one of the worst umps out there so not surprised. If you know any ump by name, that's usually a bad sign.
  23. Wow. Grichuk drew a walk there but is not rewarded for it. f*** this ump.
  24. I don't think any team is going to take the Covid Championship seriously enough to trade anything of significance for a 1 month rental. Maybe best case the Jays can turn Bass or Shoemaker into Hatch part II, but without a minor league season, it's going to be difficult to even pull that off.
