  1. Not sure how Atkins is going to make all of this fit, but Brantley is a great hitter. Can't go wrong adding a bat like that to the lineup.
  2. Out of that group, Sonny Gray. He fits what this front office likes with pitchers (lots of spin rate) and has a great contract. Helps that he's on the Reds who aren't run particularly well so the cost may not be too bad.
  3. Springer putting in that work already.
  4. If the Jays sign Brantley, put Vlad at 3B and Tellez at 1B, then we are potentially looking at a lineup with: Springer, Brantley, Bo, Vlad, Biggio, Hernandez, Gurriel, Tellez, and Jansen/Kirk....assuming Grichuk is the one that is moved. I'm sure Montoyo will find a way to have Jansen bat 3rd and Brantley 8th, but hard to mess up that lineup.
  5. Heyman saying the deal is 6/150. Holy s***.
  6. Wong and Yates are both from Hawaii, and Wong retweeted a Hawaiian site's article about it. I wouldn't read anything into it.
  7. Will wait for one of the big dogs to report this, but this is either happening or a really well planned ruse by Blue Jays Twitter.
  8. Damn, Rosenthal is never wrong...... I like the $5.5m number better.
  9. Rosenthal saying the deal is 1/8.25m with incentives.
  10. The Jays having an open closer role is going to be appealing for established relievers coming off injury or down seasons. Yates would be a great add if he's healthy.
  11. ESPN has all the receipts too so no way for Porter to hide from this. Wonder what the Mets will do.
  12. Seems to have consistently great FB/CB spin rate, and as a RP in 2019 was averaging 96 mph. Could have potential as a RP. Hopefully not a rotation option.
  13. I would also prefer Bauer based on the way the team is constructed. I mean I wouldn't be against Springer, but I'm very bullish on the Jays position player core (especially with Martin coming up). Pitching is way more unpredictable. Of course if the league starts regulating foreign substances, then Bauer would no longer be the spin rate god, but an overpay on a mid rotation starter (assuming that's what Bauer becomes without "help") is likely better than an overpay on a corner OF (which Springer will become in 2 years). Regardless, I'm fine with whatever happens. As long as the Jays don't sign anyone that gives off Tanner Roark vibes.
  14. I think it's a fair argument that if the Jays were to overpay for a FA it should be for Bauer and not a position player based on the way the team and system is set up. I guess it depends on what Bauer wants compared to Springer.
  15. JT back to Philly was a lock the moment Dombrowski finished signing his name on the contract he got. I'd be shocked if he ends up anywhere else.
  16. The fact that most of the FA's are still available and the Jays haven't signed anyone except their own (Ray) seems to suggest it is the opposite of misreading the market. Misreading the market is giving $45m to Morales and Pearce in Nov/Dec and then seeing the 1B/DH market completely crater shortly after that. Right now the Jays appear to be reading the market perfectly. It doesn't mean they will end up with any of the top names, but they haven't missed out on them yet (DJ was never leaving the Yanks) and haven't sunk some of their resources into lesser players before seeing what happens to the big guys.
  17. I don't think DJ was leaving the Yankees for any team, not just the Jays. He wanted to stay, the Yankees wanted him back, it was just a matter of time before they agreed. I don't think it mattered what the Jays offered, unless it was ridiculous (like 6/120 or something like that). This deal probably gives the Yanks enough lux tax flexibility to sign a SP (Kluber?).
  18. Passan is saying DJ's deal is 6/90.
  19. Kluber’s price would be fair for most teams even in this environment. Competition will be big for him.

    NBA Thread

I can't think of a more unlikable team in pro sports than the Nets. KD, Irving, and Harden. The NBA got what they love, a villain super team, so I'm sure they are happy.
  21. Not player related, but great news.
