  1. Yeah with Green and Richards unavailable it was not looking good once Garcia was done. Mayza, Cabrera, White, Espino (I think). Jays were probably losing this game regardless once that Clement ball didn't drop.
  2. Relievers are volatile year to year. I think Mayza is a casualty of that. He looked like s*** in ST and it's carrying over. I probably would have had more faith in Mitch White starting the inning.
  3. Of course Polanco picks today to actually play defense.
  4. Crazy that they had DS running instead of IKF.
  5. Wow, Jimi looks amazing so far.
  6. Gilbert does better against LHB than RHB so not sure why KK/Varsho are batting this inning.
  7. Any chance Danny Jansen can just rehab in the Majors? I don't think I can watch much more of Kirk playing 95% of the time at catcher.
  8. Nice to see Vlad hitting a monster HR.
  9. Agreed. If he wasn't the return for Moreno, then I might expect them to act rationally with him, but chances are they'll just stick him out there and hope something clicks even when he's been like a sub 80 wRC+ player since the trade.
  10. A bottom 5 of Biggio, Kirk, KK, Clement, and Varsho have negative pop. You can't even hope for a HR with this group if the first 4 hitters don't do anything.
  11. This seems like a really good deal for the Jays, Parsons is 31 and stinks, and more international money is always a good thing. With that said, it's the Guardians, so Parsons probably going to dominate now.
  12. I know they have no intention of using him in this role, but Varsho should have been the backup catcher until Jansen gets back. They already have a great defensive CF, and Varsho is miscast as a LF offensively anyway so the club is better off with Schneider in LF. Seems more logical than an already overweight dude having to catch everyday because the current backup wouldn’t start on an independent league team.
  13. 115 pitches on the 3rd start of the season does seem a little excessive. The Jays have been pretty good at limiting pitch counts for starters so this was very uncharacteristic. Would be interested to hear the reason, unless the pen has a bunch of guys that aren't available or something.
  14. Surprised Bassitt is still in this game.
  15. I think I'm fine with Biggio in there for now. It's really IKF who should be playing less in favor of Clement, as I don't think there is a huge gap there defensively, and offensively Clement might be able to BABIP his way to decent numbers while IKF is what he is. Either way, DS absolutely should be starting everyday, so I'll take that tiny consolation for now.
  16. DS starting in LF against a RHP for the second night in a row. Is JS feeling ok?
  17. Only for tonight. I’d imagine if there’s a righty on the mound tomorrow, it will be back to the KK/Varsho outfield with Schneider on the bench. But Varsho as a 4th OF is probably a reasonable way to use him at this point. Not good for optics though.
  18. Not watching the game, but if the crowd is booing JS, then they have earned my respect.
  19. Yeah, Clement instead of IKF, and that's probably their best lineup based on what's available on the roster. At this point I think KK might be a better hitter than Varsho, which is disappointing, but it is what it is.
  20. IKF is going to get 600 plate appearances this season. Atkins deserves what he gets.
  21. Serven isn't a big leaguer. He's barely a minor leaguer. Not sure how he made the team even with the Jansen injury.
  22. I really don't see Varsho being a plus 100 wRC+ player again. I don't know how he did it in Arizona. Maybe the org did something to his approach/swing but he's looked awful for well over a year now.
  23. Today's lineup: RF Springer 1B Vlad SS Bo 3B Turner DH Vogelbach 2B Clement LF Varsho CA Serven CF Kiermaier
  24. The fact that they are 2-2 in their last 4 games given how they've hit is a damn miracle. Pitching as expected is going to be the key to how this season goes. Basically need a repeat of 2023 in the aggregate and then hope for either internal development offensively or more realistically a bunch of trades at the deadline.
