  1. Says a lot about the Jays offense when they are accused of cheating because they fouled pitches off, not because they actually did any damage.
  2. Schneider and Clement turning into big leaguers is definitely a success story for this FO as both players prior to 2023 did not look like they had this in them. Looks like they tinkered with Barger and Orelvis too, and both of them have greatly improved their plate discipline and contact rates while maintaining hard contact (though they might be sacrificing some home runs/fly balls in the process). We will see if both contribute this season and beyond. You could certainly see a scenario where all of Barger, Martinez, and Horowitz are on the 2025 team. Whether the team can remain a playoff contender while incorporating the young talent in is the question. That would definitely be the ideal scenario rather than trading them for short term vets as I don’t think this big league core (Vlad/Bo) is the one you should be going all in for.
  3. The Astros are 6-14 to start the year. Obviously a s*** load of time left to right the ship, but these losses early add up. The Astros having a down year would certainly help the Jays chances of getting a playoff spot.
  4. Green had shoulder soreness after his last outing apparently. Man, if he was healthy this would have been a sweep. I guess this makes JS’s bullpen usage a bit more understandable. The available arms were basically Richards, Cabrera, Swanson, Mayza, and Francis. Gausman only being able to go 5 innings was the real killer.
  5. JS getting tossed when the umpire was basically spoon feeding strikes that were out of the zone to Mayza is laughable. Should have said this s*** 6 innings ago when Stroman was getting calls 5 inches from the plate. Horrible loss, and right before an off day, which hurts even more. Hopefully the pen is fully rested by Friday. I realize the Jays are in capable of playing in blowout games because they can't score enough and the pitching doesn't give up enough for that to happen too often, but need to bring the rehabbing pitchers who struggled with command in their rehab stints in less stressful situations in their first outings.
  6. The umpire tried to help Mayza repeatedly, and it still wasn't enough.
  7. Mayza facing Judge hasn't worked in the past.
  8. Yeah, Green is clearly not available as they didn't bring him in for Swanson. Needing 4 innings without Romano, Green, and Jimi was asking a lot.
  9. Swanson is throwing BP.
  10. This is what I feared with Romano last night, and it worked. May not be as lucky today.
  11. Cabrera for 2 high leverage innings could have gone very wrong, but outside of the home run to future Blue Jay Juan Soto, he wasn't bad. I guess they did not want to use Garcia, Green, or Romano today, so Richards/Cabrera getting through 3 innings was huge. Now have to hope Swanson doesn't show any rust, but at least he's not facing the top of the order.
  12. Varsho's wRC+ up to 126.
  13. Genesis in a high leverage spot. Hope for the best.
  14. Gotta get this run in from 3rd.
  15. I’d let Richards go 2 here, if only to avoid seeing Cabrera in there.
  16. The ump scorecard after this game is going to be fun to look at. Hopefully the Jays can win this game because this ump has been ass.
  17. Varsho revenge season would be nice.
  18. 98 mph on that K. Good sign.
  19. Vlad's tag saved Bo there.
  20. I’m still baffled why they’d pay $2m for a fat DH who they play once a week max and rarely use as a pinch hitter. Should have just had Lukes get this spot while they wait for Votto or more likely Horowitz.
  21. Yeah I don’t mind Term’s trolling here as it means the Jays are winning and those players are doing well (KK excluded for now). I just find it hard to get excited about those players in particular because there is a real chance we will be begging for them to be replaced by June/July (IKF and KK specifically). But hey, hope Atkins’ streak of finding good value continues even if I don’t see it. IKF putting up a 3 WAR season would be hysterical for a number of reasons, mainly the reaction of Yankees fans who mostly hated him. Ultimately as you said it will come down to the big guys (Vlad/Bo) and the pitching staff.
  22. You might want to wait for the sample size to increase on those short term signings, especially IKF. I hope you're right, but I suspect IKF and 2024 KK in particular are not going to meet the criteria that other Atkins short term deals have. Also, I think Yariel was the one signing no one really complained about as none of us had any clue what to expect from him.
  23. Worked out in the end, but using Romano there was risky. At least his first appearance held the lead. A sweep here would be great.
  24. Yeah this was not the spot for Romano's first game.
