  1. Jung Ho Kang is back in the US--when he's ready, Jordy Mercer might want to get nervous about losing playing time: https://theathletic.com/331091/2018/04/26/jung-ho-kang-finally-is-granted-u-s-work-visa-and-plans-to-soon-rejoin-pirates/
  2. Ronald Acuna's having quite a day-- 3/4, 2 RBIs, 2 Rs, 2B, HR. And 3 doubles for Freeman..
  3. Because they're a poorly managed club that has wasted Trout's prime. It's a franchise long overdue for a full-blown rebuild.. but owner Arte Moreno has wasted tons of money on guys such as Pujols, Hamilton, potentially Upton, (and that Cozart deal is already looking bad considering Moustakas would've been a better option--Cozart isn't even a good 3B, and belongs at SS or 2B, which are both blocked by an aging Kinsler and Andrelton Simmons.) The lack of healthy and/or consistent starting pitching the last few years is really hurting this club--especially this year, which has forced the Angels to cycle through 21 pitchers (already!-- and that's more than the last place Reds.) And really, without Trout or Simmons, this team would be a bottom-feeder in the AL.
  4. Yes, he should be up now. Only problem is that Joey Wendle and Daniel Robertson are playing well (part of the reason the Rays have turned things around), and Matt Duffy's returning soon. If he could catch or play OF, he'd fill a need in Tampa now.
  5. Andrew Miller to 10-day DL (hamstring strain). Huge loss for the Indians pen.. considering how dominant he was. Nick Goody's going to have to step up--because McAllister/Otero/Belisle aren't cutting it for the bridge to Cody Allen. Lucky the AL Central is an absolute joke right now, with only Cleveland above .500. Former Blue Jays reliever Jeff Beliveau has been called up.
  6. It's getting to the point it's time to consider promoting Vlad Jr. to Buffalo--he has absolutely dominated AA. He's way too advanced for the level.
  7. Yankees yes, Angels, no way.. that overused bullpen is going to come back to haunt them by the All-Star break (108 IP and still rising--and likely to soar this week with their series vs. the Yankees.) Angels are not a 16-9 team, especially with a middle of the road offense, with only Trout and Simmons being above average.. Justin Upton has been awful early this season (.235/.304/.398), Calhoun isn't hitting, Cozart has so far been a bust in LA (could've really used Moustakas!), and Pujols, after a strong start, is regressing back to his poor ways that make his contract an albatross. They only have 2 decent pitchers in Skaggs and Richards--Ohtani has been whacked in his last 2 starts, and the other arms in Heaney/Tropeano/Barria/Bridwell/Ramirez/Shoemaker have either stunk or gotten injured, taxing the bullpen.
  8. Obviously because they have no reliable starting pitching that can overpower Yankees hitters.. and even if Buxton was healthy and Polanco wasn't suspended, it wouldn't help.
  9. Angels bullpen is trying to choke away Ohtani's win..8-7 now in the 7th with the bases juiced. This is what happened when you overwork the bullpen so early and starters don't get length.. 101.2 IP (and climbing). Especially with the Angels using unproven Justin Anderson in a key situation..
  10. What a walkoff win! Big improvement over the Yankees series.. though that New York team is red hot right now (2 wins in a row vs. the Twins in addition to the 3/4 they took against Toronto). Sox offense has been mixed as of late.. outside of HanRam and Betts, there have been some notable slumps--especially Benintendi who , JD Martinez is in a bad slump right now and has shown no interest in taking a walk.. and neither catcher can hit, and JBJ is the usual--low average, good power, and lots of Ks with a good glove--Betts can't carry this team by himself.
  11. Angels bullpen loses Blake Wood to the DL due to an elbow impingment. Huge blow for an overworked Angels bullpen, especially for one who was pitching well. And thanks to Jaime Barria's 21 pitch at-bat with Brandon Belt, the Angels were forced to have the bullpen throw 7 innings yesterday--at the worst possible time, when they're about to play the top tier Houston Astros. To get fresh arms, Eduardo Paredes is back with the club (injury callup), and Justin Anderson has been rushed up from the minors to give the bullpen a fresh arm, despite having just 3.2 IP in AAA. This is what happens when your bullpen has thrown 99.2 IP so far this year (worst in MLB). And now their SP depth has been depleted more--Parker Bridwell is now hurt as well with elbow issues. The nightmares of injury issues with the Angels continues..
  12. At the rate Vlad Jr. is going--it's more a matter of when, not if, he reaches the majors this year--he's on the same path Rafael Devers was on last year, tearing up AA and may be too advanced for AAA.
  13. The problem is that the NL East is much stronger this year--Nats need to do better than they've been. Outside of Miami, there are no more pushovers--the Mets, Braves and Phillies have significantly improved, meaning Washington is facing its first real threat in 3 years.. the bigger issue is that this may be their last chance, as Bryce Harper is a free agent at season's end, and it's very unlikely the Nats will be able to afford him--and the roster around him is facing significant losses this offseason, which will leave the Nationals gutted and headed for a significant rebuild. It's the same problem that is hitting Baltimore with Machado--but worse, as the O's are already awful.
  14. And the Nats continue to struggle, as they lose another game to the Dodgers, as the Nats' shoddy bullpen coughs up another game. And for injury reasons for Eaton and lack of depth, Moises Sierra continues to get ABs for the Nats..
  15. Sadly, his Angels stink again--lost 5 of their last 6 games against the Red Sox and a team they're supposed to beat, the Giants, and heading straight into trouble with the Astros, Yankees, and a overtaxed bullpen which already has thrown near 100 IP in only 22 games (highest in MLB).. the risk is high this team will be back to .500 or just above it by then end of the Yankees series, as their starting pitching (except Ohtani) is killing them by not getting length. Offense outside of Trout is also heading south as well..
  16. NO HITTER FOR SEAN MANAEA! What a way for the Sox win streak to come to a crashing halt--getting no hit by the A's. Wonder if this will lead to a overdue slump for Boston? Even at 17-3, they are going to regress sooner or later when the hitting comes back to earth.. they're not a 120+ team.. more closer to 90-100.
  17. Hit was taken away because Benintendi ran out of the base line.
  18. Sean Manaea has zeroes thru 7. Perhaps he's the pitcher that finally halts Boston's winning?
  19. Astros just jumping on Giolito--8-0 already as Reddick hits a grand slam.
  20. A few reasons for the middling offense: 1. Pujols - enough said 2. Calhoun is slumping hard--.192/.222/.256. 3. Outside of Trout and Simmons, the lineup struggles to get on base. And as for why the Angels are suddenly is slumping--look at their pitching. Even with a 4.22 ERA, they've given up the most HRs, and walk way too many batters (4.1 BB/9IP, 2nd worst in the AL), and because their starters struggle to get length, the team has had to go to the bullpen frequently(89.2 IP, most in baseball). Eventually, this can take a toll on the team. They're going to be basically zapped by the All-Star break at their current pace.. they need length from their starters.
  21. Angels continue to fall back towards the mediocrity they have been since 2009 (except for 2014)-- down 7-0 to the freaking Giants. Looks like Houston will regain 1st place at the end of the night where they belong. And that's next on the Angels sked--a return back to .500 or less is beckoning on the Angels as their lack of pitching depth beyond Ohtani (Heaney was awful), bullpen overuse and middling offense continue to haunt the team.
  22. Bus is warming up to Scranton for German.. perhaps he should take Sanchez as well, as Sanchez is catching like JP Arencibia..
  23. If there's anything that might stop the Red Sox--it might be that they're hitting way over their head. Their BABIP is .319-- with JD Martinez, Mookie Betts, and HanRam leading the way (and before he was injured, Bogaerts). How will the Red Sox manage when these guys finally slump? (A's have the highest BABIP at .325) Jays are at .302, BTW--which shows they're about at the average, with a number of guys (Grichuk, Travis, Martin) hitting well below the mean.. imagine if the entire team starts hitting? Indians have been the most unlucky at .240--they will turn it around sooner or later. I mean, this Cleveland team is supposed to be a top-tier team--it's time to show it. Of course, it's a small sample size.
  24. Not again! Especially with the Braves off to such a good start.
  25. Oh and that goddamn Nats bullpen blows another game..Madson/Solis/AJ Cole blew up for 9 runs, including Cespedes' grand salami. And is depth that bad in Washington that former Jays OF Moises Sierra is getting ABs?
