  1. Latest PECOTA rankings are out.. and boy, things look like they're going to be tight in the AL, with even the Jays in the mix. http://www.baseballprospectus.com/fantasy/dc/ It'd be nice if one of our young pitchers would break out.. then maybe our projected 81-81 record will go up a little bit. And Baltimore is still picked to finish last, as their rotation is nothing special, plus they are projected to have the worst OBP in the AL. BTW, thanks to injuries, the Braves took a BIG hit in the projected standings.
  2. Another pitching injury: Jeff Wilson ‏@JeffWilson_FWST Alexi Ogando leaves the game with an injury of some sort. #Rangers' rotation takes another hit. Boy, are the Rangers, like the A's and Braves, catching the same injury bug the Jays had last year? This is contagious and ridiculous! Angels are already salivating at possibly dominating the AL West, IF their pitching doesn't blow it like recent years. If Ogando's out, their rotation will be Darvish, Perez, Hanson, Saunders, and one of Robbie Ross, Mike Kirkman or Tanner Scheppers.. what a mess!
  3. Nope, White Sox. But according to scouts, they said he was a "tick jumpy." But he's been awful this spring nonetheless.
  4. Jose Quintana: No batters retired, 7H, 9ER, 2BB Something has to be wrong with him.. this is the 2nd bad start he's had in a row.
  5. He was Buffalo bound regardless of what he did today. It's either Happ or Redmond for the 5th spot.
  6. Jarrod Parker is set to undergo Tommy John Surgery, and will miss the rest of the season according to MLB. Big blow to the A's..
  7. And another one gone, another one gone, another one bites the dust.. MLB ‏@MLB 9m .@Athletics RHP Jarrod Parker will undergo Tommy John surgery on March 25. Parker likely will miss the remainder of the season. What is wrong with arms these days? This is getting ridiculous.
  8. Well, Detroit was pretty desperate to win a World Series and needed a young SS.. perhaps their medical staff isn't that great in Detroit.
  9. Not a bad idea, as the only other options Detroit has are Hernan Perez and Danny Worth, who aren't exactly options to play every day. And they won't sign Drew because he costs too much in money and the loss of a draft pick.
  10. McGowan is also out of options.
  11. While we're on this topic, yet ANOTHER injury: Mike Puma ‏@NYPost_Mets Niese removed after 2 innings, injury replacement. Stay tuned.
  12. Here's an interesting article from Ken Rosenthal regarding the high rate of pitching injuries in the MLB: http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/rosenthal-pitching-injuries-piling-up-and-remedy-still-elusive-031514 We should know about this, due to the injuries to Osuna, Drabek, Hutchison in the past..
  13. Another one bites the dust: Arizona DiamondbacksVerified account ‏@Dbacks Medical update: Patrick Corbin underwent an MRI last night that showed damage to the ulnar collateral ligament in his left elbow. (cont.) Archie Bradley is likely to make team now.. Corbin is likely done for 2014, as he is facing Tommy John surgery.
  14. Unsurprisingly, the Jays optioned Kyle Drabek, Sean Nolin and Chad Jenkins to Buffalo (AAA). Pretty much means Hutchison's going to make the team out of spring training. Still uncertain is the 5th spot in the rotation between Stroman, Redmond, Rogers, Happ and Romero.
  15. Mike McDade is back with the Jays, signing a minor-league contract. http://www.milb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20140314&content_id=69358184&fext=.jsp&vkey=news_t422&sid=t422
  16. And more injury woes for pitchers: A's pitchers AJ Griffin (right elbow issue) and Jarrod Parker (right forearm tightness) are heading for the DL. Tommy Milone will take one rotation spot, former Blue Jay Jeese Chavez is expect to get the other.. hold your breath, A's fans.. last time he started in Toronto, he had HR and command issues.. Not good if you're an A's fans, but great for Angels, Rangers and Mariners fans..
  17. No kidding! Thanks to Hudson going to SF, Beachy and Medlen going down to Tommy John surgery, and Minor's slow recovery from offseason surgery, this is the projected rotation according to MLBDepthCharts: 1. Julio Teheran 2. Alex Wood 3. Freddy Garcia 4. David Hale 5. Ervin Santana (mid-April) or Mike Minor (depends on recovery time) After this, the rotation in the minors gets dicey..
  18. If Sabathia had learned to adapt, he wouldn't be a risk for continued regression. With the decline of the Yankees team due to age, this is the last thing they need, especially with the ascent of the Red Sox, Rays, Jays(I expect them to be better than last season) and Orioles.. Without a decent Sabathia, the Yanks could easily be a 5th place team, as Kuroda and Tanaka cannot be expected to carry the team.
  19. Especially for a guy who will likely be DFAd if he doesn't start hitting or playing decent defense at catcher, as Robinson Chirinos has outplayed him by quite a bit.
  20. Re-checking the PECOTA ranking as of March 13th: Jays are not picked to lose 90 games or finish last.. they're expected to be a .500 team and 4th, with Baltimore projected to finish last because of a questionable bullpen and a lack of OBP. Of course, they could move up if the Yankees continue to have question marks regarding Sabathia (reduced velocity), Kuroda (age related regression), and Nova (although some of that may be more due to the terrible Yankees defense in the infield). And of course, Tanaka and Pineda are wild cards.. BTW, regarding Sabathia, in his last start, was hitting just 85-86 MPH on the gun, going as high as 88 MPH. If this continues into the season, the Yanks will end up with a albatross of a contract, as Sabathia would basically be a worse version of Mark Buehrle.. except Buehrle has never had the velocity Sabathia did. Tampa's the favorite, BTW, with Boston 2nd, and the Yanks missing the playoffs a 2nd straight year.
  21. Forgot to mention he threw more balls than strikes..
  22. Ubaldo Jimenez, one of the pitchers we wanted to sign, got lit up vs. the Phillies. 2.0 IP, 4H, 4 ER, 3 BB, 0Ks, 50 pitches, 2 triples given up. I know it's Spring Training, but that's almost Happ bad when he throws 50 pitches through 2 IP. This seems more like the Jimenez that stank up the Indians in 2011-2012..
  23. Regarding Santana, he was NEVER coming to the AL East. The only reason he did well last year was due to Kaufman Stadium being a large ballpark, which is perfect for his flyball tendencies.
  24. Serious injuries too.. Medlen's facing a 2nd Tommy John surgery, Beachy is hurt as well, Minor may not be ready for Opening Day. Let's just hope the Braves don't get burned with this deal, as they're already paying dead money to BJ Upton and Dan Uggla.
  25. Turns out Toronto and Baltimore were just pawns... David O'Brien ‏@ajcbraves 3m #Braves will announce Ervin Santana signing this morning at Champion Stadium. Once Kris Medlen got hurt, Atlanta was the favorite..
