  1. That was only because Gary Bettman wants his big US television deal, and unlike the Rays and A's, Jobing.com Arena is actually decent. The Rays and A's situations are different than the Phoenix Coyotes.. and the Coyotes may still end up moving within 5 years, if the team continues to lose money. MLB is not going to wait around for the Rays and A's stadium situation to go unresolved forever.
  2. Trout's about to be very rich: http://aldengonzalez.mlblogs.com/2014/03/28/angels-mike-trout-agree-on-six-year-deal/ 6 years, $140M, $23.5M/year.
  3. Man, Parnell is wild.. going to be a long season for the Mets.
  4. A business model that is only sustained by revenue sharing. Recalling the 2008 Deadspin article about the Rays finances: http://deadspin.com/5619203/tampa-bay-rays-financial-documents//all Look closely how much they made on revenue sharing.. sooner or later, many of the owners are going to pull the plug on the Rays if they don't see attendance rise, a new stadium, etc. Basically, it's a money pit.
  5. For an entire 3-4 game set at best. When is Bud Selig going to wake up?
  6. Nice play by Lagares there. No wonder he's considered the best CF in the NL...
  7. Agreed. Like in Washington, the minute Montreal decides to build a new stadium to open within 1-2 years, MLB should push for relocation of either the Oakland A's(they're never getting to San Jose due to the Giants) or Tampa Bay Rays.
  8. Thanks to all the work done, the ballpark looks nice (outside of the ugly turf). They could probably host an MLB team right now if they got the ownership and a team.. but still, Montreal needs a new stadium. Hey, at least they're closer than Tampa in thinking about a new stadium.. the Rays have continued to piddle around.. and now hopes of a new stadium in Tampa are in jeopardy, especially considering there are other projects St. Pete needs to allocate revenue towards: http://www.tampabay.com/opinion/editorials/editorial-time-running-out-on-rays-deal/2172466
  9. 83. No way the pitching can be worse than 2013..
  10. TSN's predictions for MLB: http://www.tsn.ca/mlb/story/?id=447602 BTW, they expect the Yanks to finish last.. of course, the AL East is difficult to call.
  11. Another team we can trade a reliever to: Ken RosenthalVerified account ‏@Ken_Rosenthal More bad news for #DBacks: MRI shows that RP David Hernandez has torn UCL, according to his agent, Jason Hoffman. Will get second opinion. Man, those doctors are making a killing this season on Tommy John surgeries..
  12. Right, forgot about the scoreboard. Oh well.. but hey, we can dream.
  13. Exactly. And the Dodgers had that big loss because of an unsustainable payroll long-term(they're not even close to the Yankees in popularity or revenue), heavy revenue sharing and luxury taxes. If you think the Jays did very little, the Dodgers have a cruddier bench than the Jays, as they barely added anyone this offseason, and their 2B are worse than Goins, such as Alex Guerrero, who's not even MLB-ready to play 2B. And they have Chone Figgins on that roster.. they've actually sunk that low to bring in Chone Figgins. 29 other teams wouldn't even touch him.
  14. Forgot to mention San Jose won't happen due to it being Giants territory.
  15. Yes, because BC Place could be adapted for baseball. Plus, it's the only place that could actually be suitable for an MLB team to move in in the West. Most of the US locations lack infrastructure to bring in an MLB team.
  16. Teams like LA, Texas, Philly, etc. who sold TV rights are going to have to pay a lot of money to revenue sharing due to those big deals.
  17. Oakland would be a bigger candidate to move first.. the O.co is ancient and falling apart! But there isn't anywhere in the West to move to.. San Antonio is blocked by Houston and Texas in territorial rights, Portland and Vegas are pipe dreams. MLB is going to have to do something..
  18. Only ones I can see legitimately losing money are the Dodgers, Reds, Marlins, Royals and D-Backs, due to their market size.
  19. I imagine we pay revenue sharing, which is why we're losing money.
  20. But MLB cannot ignore the money pits in Tampa and Oakland forever.. especially by the next CBA. Especially the situation in Tampa.. if attendance continues to worsen this year, rumors of Montreal will likely increase. 4 90 wins seasons and the attendance has gotten worse.. sooner or later, 29 other owners are going to demand the Rays be relocated, even if they have issues breaking the lease at Tropicana Field. And even though Forbes says the Rays are making money.. in reality, without revenue sharing, the franchise would have folded by now. Fans in Tampa better get to the Trop this year.. or you can pretty much say goodbye to Longoria, Zobrist, Price, etc, when they are traded in a fire sale because ownership won't want to put money into a franchise that won't get a new stadium. We saw this happen after the strike in Montreal in 1995.. it could happen in Tampa as well.
  21. Well deserved for Cabrera. If he stays healthy, he could easily reach 700-800 doubles(and challenge Speaker, Rose, Musial and Cobb's doubles mark) and 600+ HR by the end of his career, and a reasonable shot at Hank Aaron and Babe Ruth's RBI marks. Now if Detroit can get a title before Illitch passes and that contract threatens to be an albatross because of the reduction in payroll that will occur when Illitch dies and the team is sold..
  22. That's true. Both the Trop and the Big O are dumps. But at least Montreal would get better attendance then St. Pete. The Trop is plagued with bad attendance due to being in an awful location and in an area with poor economic fundamentals.
  23. Jays win 3-0. And so we bid adieu to Dunedin for another year.. off to Montreal we go, then to the dump in St. Pete..why hasn't THAT team moved to Montreal yet? The Rays won't survive long term in St. Pete without a new stadium and/or improved attendance.
  24. Emilio Guererro is a 21-year old SS/3B expected to play in Dunedin this season.
