  1. He should've taken it. Pittsburgh could REALLY use him right now, considering they're struggling offensively in RF.
  2. Jeff Passan @JeffPassan Sources: Orioles C Matt Wieters to visit Dr. James Andrews on Wednesday for examination on elbow soreness. Worst-case scenario is UCL tear. I know this should be in the Around Baseball thread, but this could be a major loss for a team that is supposed to be a contender, as bad as when the Rays lost Moore, Cobb and Hellickson to injury.
  3. Another potential Tommy John surgery candidate? Jeff Passan @JeffPassan Sources: Orioles C Matt Wieters to visit Dr. James Andrews on Wednesday for examination on elbow soreness. Worst-case scenario is UCL tear. If it's a UCL tear, he's headed for Tommy John surgery, which would end his season, and be VERY devastating to the Orioles. Caleb Joseph, a 28-year old catcher, is on call in case Wieters needs Tommy John.
  4. At this rate Hutch is going to have a CG.. Phillies have no patience tonight!
  5. DFA Galvis! That was the worst baserunning I've seen since Ruben Rivera!
  6. And we'll be 1.5 out when the Yankees get blown out vs. the Angels tonight.
  7. http://www.bluebirdbanter.com/2014/5/5/5684692/blue-jays-injury-updates Neil Wagner has been put on the DL with a right forearm strain, with the Buffalo Bisons, which explains why he hasn't been brought back up to Toronto yet. Ryan Rowland-Smith was promoted from the Fisher Cats to fill his spot. This explains why Wagner wasn't called up. At least we get Janssen back shortly. Chad Jenkins will likely be optioned when Casey returns.
  8. Like the Yankees and Rays, who have lost 2-3 starters already this season?
  9. Right hamstring tightness, day-to-day for Lawrie. And Happ just deflected a ball to get an out..
  10. Amazingly, Happ gets out of it. And Ryan Howard has really fallen off...
  11. Happ is happless. Can we please put Stroman in the rotation already?
  12. Well, it's got to be better than that ep. of the Simpsons that GIF was from.. at least Happ isn't burying the city in garbage.
  13. And this is why pitchers don't know how to bunt in the AL..
  14. We're in pretty good shape for next season. I mean, none of Boston, Philly, NYK or Brooklyn are going to be contenders next year. Boston and Philly are still rebuilding and a ways off, New York will likely lose Carmelo and don't have the pieces to contend(and no 1st rounder), and age will likely hit Brooklyn hard, especially with them set to lose Paul Pierce to free agency, and no 1st rounder.
  15. 1. Garbage article re: 2B situation. None of those options are any good offensively or defensively, and Espinosa is needed in Washington because of Zimmerman's injury. Rickie Weeks isn't any better than the 2B options we have now, nor is Luis Valbuena. Who wrote this tripe? 2. Rasmus doesn't really need a platoon partner. He was slow starting last year as well. 3. Duh! Although let's wait and see about our other options first. We can't just throw Stroman into the fire, when he has barely had MLB experience. 4. Why would anyone pay extra for an Insider article of stuff we already know?
  16. Nevertheless, Tanaka is due to regress, something the Yankees can't afford with such lousy depth after him and a Sabathia quagmire, whose xFIP is likely due to his high strikeout rate, and doesn't show the increasing amount of hits he's giving up. He's still getting the Ks, but Sabathia is also getting hit around more. If he had better defense, perhaps his ERA would improve.. but the Yanks, desperate for offense, prefer to play guys like Solarte, Jeter, and Beltran, and sometimes Soriano defensively. His 5.75 ERA is more a result of bad Yankees defense than himself. Put him on the Jays and his ERA would likely be closer to 4.
  17. Just so we can settle this, here are xFIPS of AL East starters: YANKEES Sabathia 2.96 Kuroda 3.83 Tanaka 2.22 (but a 90.1% LOB rate.. regression is due) Phelps 4.23 Nuno 4.27 Pineda 4.25 Tanaka, a quagmire that is Sabathia, and 3 below average hurlers in Nuno, Kuroda and Phelps. Pineda is headed for a hard fall when he returns, as his numbers have been deceptive, as he should have an ERA closer than 5 than a 1.83 ERA. RED SOX Lester 2.65 Lackey 3.22 Peavy 4.62 Doubront 4.86 Buchholz 4.24 Peavy is pitching way above his head, as his xFIP shows major regression ahead. Lester and Lackey are pitching as expected. RAYS Price 2.61 Archer 3.56 Odorizzi 4.42 Bedard 5.24 Ramos 5.31 As i said, Bedard and Ramos are garbage. ORIOLES Jimenez 4.46 Tillman 4.03 Chen 3.57 Gonzalez 4.56 Norris 4.25 JAYS Dickey 4.90 Hutchison 3.25 McGowan 5.48 Morrow (on DL) 4.20 Buehrle 4.16 (but that is typically his career norm anyway)
  18. Hellickson would be in the top 5 starters for the Rays right now. Bedard and Ramos are garbage, Odorizzi has a 4.66 FIP/4.42xFIP to go with his 6+ ERA(why do you think Milwaukee and KC dumped him?), and they really need Cobb back as well. Sabathia's xFIP is now 2.96. Doesn't matter when the Yanks defense is horrible, continuing to play below average defenders like Ellsbury, Jeter, Solarte, and Beltran. As for Tanaka, he's headed for a hard fall, as a 90.1 LOB% rate is unsustainable, which likely means his ERA and HR rate are set to skyrocket in the coming months. Remember, he's been giving up more HR as teams adjust to his pitches, as evidenced in his last start vs. the Rays.
