  1. Our starters have been pretty incredible again this season.
  2. Angel is retiring after torturing fans for 34 long years as umpire. I saw on news over coffee this am. Great news.
  3. Even if Bo was 2 WAR ish already the picture would be better, but not that much.
  4. I think you were channeling your inner Tabby.
  5. Well that was lit. I enjoyed that. I remember you posting in response to me mid April something like "This is just a clutch team that knows how to win. Their D and elite bullpen will ensure they will win 2/3 close games." This season has not gone like any of us thought so far. Worse if anything. I had them at 85 W and I'm not certain we will get there.
  6. I get that. But not all BABIP is not created equal. Vlad still hits the ball incredibly hard. Loft & pull side power has been an issue, as well as being in between late on high V. It depends on the term/AAV. I have no emotional attachment to Vlad as a player. If he is willing to sign 6/110-120, we have made worse bets. But given he went to arb hearing over his salary this year after a 1 WAR season, I think he(and his Agent) value himself MUCH higher than most of us do, so tough decisions need to be made soon.
  7. There is a way through this to improving the product without waiting too long. It starts with new clear eyed GM leadership evaluating the changes and surgery required. Ownership has little choice but to spend. Jays TV advertising and the hundreds of millions in renos is core Rogers integration strategy.
  8. Likely. The cupboard is relatively bare on impact talent in the farm. Ricky is not ready for a rotation and Orelvis is still a bit of a wildcard on position and power translating to the majors consistently. There are some other interesting pieces but not like a Jackson Holliday level prospect is locked and loaded to come up (and even his debut was rough).
  9. Depend on a lot of factors and market at time. FA Cost/WAR median cratered last off season to 4.4M. 3-4 WAR is $15-20M AAV which is his Arb cost. Even though WAR takes 1B only player into account I think it does decrease his attractiveness. Still I’d do 6/120 ish with Vlad.
  10. Shame on you for wanting playoff victories. That is naive fandom. The playoffs are merely a function of randomness and luck. They have no baring on measuring success whatsoever don’t ya know? For me, I rank watching a good “deep count”, over say Jose’s game 5 shot vs Texas in the 2015 playoffs or Edwin’s 2016 wildcard walk off.
  11. You have to draft and develop well to do this. And you have to hang on to your top talent. They have not done any of these things. Free Agency is very useful for augmenting your roster. But now we have an expensive old team that is not that good, with core pieces on the way out this year and next. We look a lot like the CWS a few years ago.
  12. Tigers C may be the worst framer I’ve ever seen.
  13. Vlad took a lot of heat for our start but his wRC+ is 137. Any woes lately can't be pinned on him. Definitely rebuilding value on this heater. The .124 ISO is a bit of a concern.
  14. That totally fair. Personally I've gone into I would like Ross drawn and quartered mode. I would fine seeing Shapiro go too. My bro and I are taking my son to Jays for his 16th next week and he is like Spank, so trying not to infect him with my negativity. We booked it awhile ago. This is the last personal money I'm spending on the Jays as long at Atkins is at the helm.
  15. I will always admire your optimism. Seriously.
  16. We don't have a choice. DH or C he needs to be in line up while he is hot. If we don't climb back into this race, he is gone anyway at deadline.
  17. Interesting that Varsho and he are tied at 1.7 fWAR at this point.
  18. He has a 182 wRC+ Regression is coming. He isn't that good. Ride his heater while they can is the best option.
  19. We are 17th in wRC+ (7th in '23) and have scored more runs than only CWS in all of MLB. Lack of power? Bad luck with RISP? Mind boggling.
  20. Roster construction counting on offensive resurgence from Springer was never wise after his '23, when he actually stayed healthy. Turner is 40 and the risk of falling off a cliff at that age is big. I'm surprised he projected 105. Are they THIS bad? Don't think so. I think Schneider will be fired if we don't win at least 4 of next 7. It won't change anything, but Ross will offer up another sacrifice.
  21. We are 9 games back of the 2nd wildcard. Atkins owes his current job security to the creation of the 3rd wildcard spot and a huge payroll. Without them this thread would be titled “The Ship Has Sunk”.
  22. I am impressed with getting into some deep counts today. Of that we can be very proud.
  23. The only silver lining is all the stupid articles and tweets on the HR jacket being an offensive catalyst will cease.
  24. Berrios having a good weird year. Continues to beat his FIP by 1.5 runs a game. But getting it done for us big time.
  25. Vlad is good again. 2022 style 132 wRC+ Need some more power but hard to argue with that number. Guy like Olson is his kryptonite usually with GB %.
