  1. Must be tough. You are like Atlas Shrugged carrying the weight of the entire depressed fan base around on your shoulders. I don't think too may were freaked about the 4-6 start given we were like one late swing by Schneider away from 3-7. Going 4-6 was found money. 33 games in playing like this getting a little hot in the kitchen for many fans. Can't blame them.
  2. This doesn't feel like a skid. Its feels like a continuation of the worst parts of '23. Our D, aside from the odd gaffs has been the only elite part of our game - and Kooch, Berrios and Yimi. Our overall team pitching and hitting has stunk. Good thing about baseball is we do it again tomorrow will still probably win this series.
  3. Happens quite often injury or performance, or other situations. It doesn't just happen for the Jays. I can't imagine the Rays sit around talking about what was and what might have been much, after seeing their generational talent SS Wander Franco thrown out of MLB unexpectedly. Etc. Etc. Thats why FOs gets paid the big bucks. Their true value is actually measured in how they adapt to these various situations, variables and realties.
  4. Interesting piece for May 3rd from Rosenthal guessing on surprise sellers at the deadline. https://theathletic.com/5468520/2024/05/03/mlb-trade-deadline-surprise-sellers-astros-giants/ Early for that, but its does hammer home we are getting closer to High Noon on Bo & Vlad, and a big test for FO and ownership.
  5. - They didn't close on any material trades to improve the team gaps. - They moved early before the market gelled to to hedge and gave 2 plus gloves and a reliever $28M ARO which left less to improve the O. (Green, IKF, KK) - They didn't close on anyone else to improve the offence. Hamstrung by early investments in the off season and past commitments to likes of Springer/Gausman. - They closed on a $13M ARO JT who projected 105 and is over performing, which FO is getting lots of credit for. - Yariel was a move lots questioned but it was an investment in more arms depth, and not that expensive relatively. Early returns good. - They have the 8th highest payroll in MLB. - We have the oldest rotation and line up in the AL East. - Development challenged. Did they do a bad job this off season? Maybe not, but I don't know how anyone would give it more than a C, at best.
  6. Amen, if you look at our MLB team pitching and batting stats rankings, and I know you do, its a Festivus miracle we are only 2 under. D is only area we are excelling.
  7. Does not compute. Joe is excellent at his gig. His insights are not hyperbolic and are always supported by relevant stats. He is not afraid to speak truth and he does not gloss over things, but he is always respectful and you know he knows the game is really really hard. He is humble about his own playing career, but he skillfully weaves in some of his experience. In a sea of crap commentators and analysts, he has got to be an A-.
  8. Yep. The product is so boring now aside from some of the starting pitching and D we have seen. They aren't winning as much as we want, so its frustrating. It is May 1st. The FO made some bets agree or disagree. Soon enough we'll see over a larger sample size if they pay off. I'm still on 85 W but as you say the deadline can have a big impact. We didn't even roll in 2015 to win the D until after deadline moves.
  9. I have different information about this from very good sources. Ross is the face of roster construction but Shapiro is involved and has to sign off on anything material. Shapiro has to get the budget/payroll approved by the Board, and agree/sign off on an FA deal etc. There is no corporate world where the CEO, who is ultimately accountable, where this is not the case. He is the puppeteer.
  10. Ya, maybe. But I always believe that in any business, after enough runway and sample size, primary accountability rests at the top.
  11. This challenges of this team has very little to do with Schneider and the coaches. Firing yet another Manager this FO hired accomplishes little.
  12. The thunder in the Jays line up is sure some exciting baseball to watch.
  13. For sure. Lugo is a bit the same. Lots of slop and mix with the odd 93-95 2S
  14. LOL. What happened to your pep talk to me mid April "Its just a clutch team that knows to win" and other Tabbyisms? I say 85 right from the start.
  15. I was more excited for Varsho, Jano and Schneider to be up in the bottom of the 2nd than I am for Springer, Vlad and Bo. The world is upside down.
  16. Got to love Barger but watching him move and play D takes me back to Sorrow's insider report this off season on Jays saying they love the kid but don't have a position for him. They decided to try RF to take advantage of the hose.
  17. Ya, we need Manoah. Francis, Yariel, Green IL. Pitching staff ends the month 28th in fWAR. 21st in ERA and 27th in FIP. 25th K/9. 18th xFIP. Great D can only do much. Man, our offence really needs to get going.
  18. They hired and fired Buntoyo. They hired and can fire Schneider. I don't care for him much, but he and the coaches aren't in the Top 5 issues for this team.
  19. Nice gif use. That one made me legit lol. Apropos. Springer wRC+ sky rockets to 85.
  20. Man CF is a dead zone. 3 balls hit off Berrios died up against the wall. That ball Vlad just hit.
  21. The underlying numbers, lunar trajectory and bat path analysis point to a big break out starting tonight for Cavan...Biggio! Biggio! (son of #HOF Craig but that has nothing to do with why he gets so much rope in MLB).
  22. I agree with this. Although if you look at the some of the numbers so far (team ERA,FIP, xFIP) our pitching has been far from elite. Luck & D has helped them. Kooch and Berrios over performing and Hound, Gausman under performing. Yariel has come down to earth but still positive. Aside from Yimi so far, the pen has been like a box of chocolates. Never know what you're gonna get. Green health concerns me. Swanson had some V backlast night. Good sign to help set up his split. Bo, Vlad and Springer will have positive regression, At the same time JT won't have a 165 wRC+ all season. Same for Varsho. Schneider is just an exciting player and fun to watch.
  23. And you know what grinds my gears? Buck said Sal has had "Hall of Fame" career yesterday. He is 17 career fWAR. Russell Martin has 55, and is never even mentioned as a HOF candidate by any commentator or analyst.
  24. Vlad. yep. Bo. Ya I agree. He got moved down in the order in mid '22 when struggling (not this badly) and it really pissed him off. No idea if it helped go on the heater he did the last 1/4 of 2022, but he finished with 130 wRC+. I think he will get going. Long term not interested in a big long term deal for his D @ SS or his high chase, low BB approach. They don't tend to end well.
  25. Had to listen to that game on radio watching son play ball in snow tonight. Man that sounded tense. Atta boy Nate. W!
