  1. Thats fair thanks. In terms of our pen I wouldn't punt him over probable regression. I just said he would come in handy in this pen. 2017 JD was a 5 fWAR player. Not bad. Had 2 months and a year of arb left. We ended up getting in 2018 getting Merryweather.
  2. He was rumored too, but so was Reyes. Was just going through 2017 reports. Nothing confirmed who was offered by STL.
  3. Don't think so. Cursed. Such a shame as he looked so good in his short stint early this year. Alex Reyes, widely reported, was offered to us by the Cards at the 2017 deadline for JD when he had a year left. We passed. He would be handy right about now.
  4. Watching Ryan Tepera in his 2nd inning of work for Cubs. He has had a solid season in their pen for 800k. Slider looks great. Guy has hung around.
  5. Stroman 1 hits the Reds over 8 IP with 1 BB and 7 K. Thats an impressive outing for the little annoying f***er.
  6. I was listening. Man they grind. come back against hapless Orioles in the bottom of the 9th to walk it off.
  7. Not sure everyone is expecting that. Its a nice piece to have coming back. Agree that how he will perform is more likely to be ok than good.
  8. Wrong. We have extracted a potent toxin from the murder hornets which will provide earth with the necessary defenses for the alien offensive. They will not pass.
  9. I enjoyed the Derby (haven't watched one in a few years - little interest) with my boy and together we watched the all star game on PVR until late in the night after his baseball practice. It was a cool thing to do. What i enjoyed most was even 13 year olds appreciate how special Ohtani and some of these kids are as players. When I told him he was watching a Unicorn with Ohtani, I think they get it. Lots of issues with different things in game and derby but just bitches really...tweaking. Overall it was fun and interesting for us.
  10. Its true, responses tend to be so extreme on this issue. We have to just live with it and fight it at the same time. I think boosters will be around awhile with morphing variants. Nobody knows for sure what this looks like in 22 or beyond. Personally, it pisses me off some players just don't get vaccinated but thats going to be the norm. Put what precautions in place that you can actually enforce, and open up the border...including baseball.
  11. Thats burned into my brain and now when now I hear that kind of hollow puff from the Tabby's of the world it gives me an uncontrollable tick in my left eye lol
  12. Thats awesome. Remember how often we used to hear Jack Morris had that X factor and would "pitch to the score" as a winner. In 93 he just got lit up.
  13. I was 7 or 8 that season in 72. I remember in 1981 playoffs the Expos getting to Lefty just enough, and beating the Phillies twice. Steve Rogers gave up one run over two starts. Was such an exciting time as Canadian ball fan. Even as a kid I remember that wicked down and in slider Carlton threw to RHH and how many bats swung over the top.
  14. Well the 1972 Phillies won a grand total of 59 games and Carlton "won" 27 of those. I put very little stock in pitching W-L records these days but i still find that a eternally shocking and impressive stat for him.
  15. Sho show is a bust. Who cares? Takes nothing away from the most amazing season from a player I’ve ever seen. Maybe he goes on massive run.
  16. LOL. Truth bombs. Feel same. Avoided fantasy ball. I have enough obsessions. I’ve learned some basic tools on board. Love wRC+. Have lost pretty much all faith in the old stats I used to worship at the alter of.

I'm shocked, but I shouldn't be. Just reading fan comments kind of split between idiotic deal, but a lot of vetrin presents stuff. Just so over rated. Keith was a great player...like 8 years ago.
  18. Which is most reflective of value in your view in the case of Ray?
  19. I just looked that up and changed my post lol. then saw your post. That puts him 9th in leaderboard. why such a difference between fWAR? Makes a huge difference in the conversation about what he is worth.
  20. This is the issue with letting this year go as a push. Resigning him you chew up a lot of what we save when Marcus leaves. He is worth 1.5 fWAR so far (BR has him at 3.3?) He is has been really good but concerned about the long balls he gives up and how bad the 3rd time though numbers are. He will rarely go more than 5-6 as a result, which is fine, if you had a stud pen. Signing him would be a no brainer if he had a more effective off speed option. Maybe thats upside he has left?
  21. That’s glass half full sure. Banking on better years for those two. You can also make the case that the league has figured out nobody has to throw a strike to Gurriel and Biggio has a hole in his swing. And you have to ensure the FO doesn't get another Roark deal with that $20mm. Your premise can happen. Not sure it’s likely. We have Marcus this season and he has been worth almost 4 war already. To resign Ray will chew up a good net chunk of that 20mm to get back to where we started this year.
  22. A lot but Not that much. We flipped some of the big dough we owed Jose Reyes in exchange. Also have to ask what 15 and 16 runs did to net revitalize the franchise financially and RE energize a fan base.
  23. It’s a tough call either way. That’s why FO gets paid a lot. We went on a roll in 15 after big moves and basically it cost us Boyd Norris and Hoffman. With no Cecil fluke injury and less ******** KC luck that team could have won. Doesn’t always work out well, like the MIA and Dickey deals. God I hated watching him pitch.
