  1. Ya, Freddy is a great player, but its not personal for him or them. His Agent was grinding, and Braves made other plans. Just business. Its a great move for Braves as opposed to saddling themselves with a 5-6 year expensive deal for a 32 year old.
  2. About as good as we could get on the market. We stayed incredibly healthy 21 and won the lotto on Ray, Manoah and Matz seasons in the rotation. Who knows this year? We are going to need the depth. He, Pearson (if here) and Stripling all will be needed to start at various times. The Pete Walker pixie dust is a little overblown.
  3. Lots to dissect on this news. But I'm just going to soak in the happiness & excitement I feel that we are not going to have 2022 messed up. Such awesome news.
  4. C'mon Olerud LOVEs getting us to wade into esoteric discussions on ancillary matters...the rabbit hole is his specialty. lol He is good at it.
  5. Negotiation is about leverage. Without the Sword of Damocles over their heads they were never going to close the gap. I'm not sure on the timing but the real talks only just started. The bitterness will play some, and these things can get entrenched and take on a life of their own. But at the end of the day its billionaires and mega millionaires who aren't stupid in business. Those realities will eventually take over and they will close a deal. I don't know when, but it will be based on numbers/economics/brand and I don't see them blowing a whole season. Pressures will mount. I see games in May/June. The process just sucks for us fans.
  6. I check the news on this at the end of every day, have a moment of deep depression, and then move on. Casual fans must be so blah to this whole thing. It just has a stench all over it. The owners know once the guys making at or near league min start missing a few pay checks the pressure is going to get so intense on the players union. Still...they are really hurting their own businesses and brand. They must feel the incremental cost is worth it.
  7. Weird vibes for me on these talks. Lots of guys on here probably too young to remember well 94 and what it cost the Expos. Back then I remember thinking "no way, they wont really do this..." and they did. Will they do it again? f*** I seriously hope not. I'm so excited for this season. With the current media/streaming environment people have so many options for content, I'm not sure baseball recovers as well as it did 94-95. I remember the aftermath of 94 and us all turning a blind eye cheering on guys who suddenly were huge (er) and making 60 home runs common. Everyone kinda knew everyone was juiced but we didnt want to upset the happy vibe. What gets us the avg fan back in the seats and watching at home this time?
  8. LOL....made me laugh. grumpy ol' codger on Tinder. I just cant picture that with you hombre lol
  9. I fully expected this disappointing travesty. There are players in the HOF who didn't get caught like Pudge, Piazza and Bagwell. Papi did get caught and he gets in because he is a DH who hit well in BOS in the "clutch" and has a big smile? ....but much better players like Bonds and Clemens don't. Thats it for me in terms of the HOF. Its on Gold Glove level for me now. (Don't get me wrong. I loved watching Ortiz hit, but man he was nothing compared to Bonds)
  10. Been tuned out with the lock out. Watching that made me happy. The Dominican stars take baseball back to rudimentary raw skill on fields that aren't fancy. Just pure talent. Gives you the impression kids could just ride their bikes over to that field and watch maybe the best hitter on the planet take live BP. Always love these kinds of videos. Vlad looks like he is staying away from Grandma's cooking, which also makes me happy.
  11. When my son was 5 we went to a Okotoks, AB Jays event with the old Jays stars guys and Big Cecil was there, 8 years ago. My 5 year old asked him when he was signing a ball for him, "how is your son Prince doing?". He actually said at least then that he spoke to him on the phone the other day and went on about it for awhile. So I hope they mended fences.
  12. Demeaning what it means to be in the MLB HOF. Jack Morris/Baines are in, but fill in the blanks better choice is not. Its becoming like the Gold Glove awards used to be when Jeter won a bunch. SMH.
  13. Just can't do K Seager. Basically a LHH Grichuk in 21 with a 99 wRC+ and 24% K rate. Like a .280 OBP. I think we will find/have better options. You wouldn't have to give him 2 years I don't think.
  14. A little from covid and having a child i think. Still played in 143/162
  15. Good point. Aside from Springer who was a big deal, we got so lucky on offensive and rotation health overall in 21. Bo, Vlad, Teo, Simean made the line up day in day out. Braves won without Ozuna, Acuna Jr and Soroka.
  16. Jesus. Lots of projections it was going to be quiet off season early with big labour agreement hanging in the balance. This has been head spinning so far lol. Simean got more/longer than I thought and Ray got less. Its wild so close to Glausman's deal but the draft pick, and Jays must like how he projects better.
  17. He is a great guy and elite player who gave us a stunning 2021, but hard pass on that deal for a 31 year old middle IF pull hitter.
  18. Hmm. Love his D obviously but yet another RHH and the K rate makes me queasy.
  19. FO not f***ing around on arms. Going to be interesting to see what they want to do 2B and 3B with Marcus gone. No way they sign Ray too
  20. Lots of arms in our org haven't flourished from Walker pixie dust, especially our track record in the pen. We struck 1 year deal gold with Matz, Ray (and Semian). I don't know the odds but I'd bet its more likely this lightening wont strike twice in the same place with others. Ray won a Cy Young. Just an astonishing turn around.
  21. Can't agree more. The hypocrisy would be beyond stunning...which means it will probably happen.
  22. Aaron f***ing Loup gets 2/17mm deal from LAA? The volatility of relievers. I mean good for him he has secured his families financial future out of the pen. Thought he was a nightmare most of the time when he pitched for us, but last year so dominant.
  23. It wasn't so much upset with trade for me at least (its kind of funny to reread the initial reactions to the deal ITT). Just seemed a bit inconsistent with drumbeat of building system to field consistent winner anchored from within. In retrospect lots of criticisms of the 2 who went now, but they were highly touted by the same FO. Seems like this FO is doing their best to balance strategic external signings while farming internal resources to bring up. Given our payroll probably a wise approach. A lot of the concern at the time was that he couldn't be resigned....and...well....thats no longer an issue.
  24. f*** off with your typical ******** response. I hated the dumb ass Chop in 92 and I hated it 29 years later 2021. Also, I'm not an indigenous person but i don't dismiss those who do find it stereotypical and offensive, as woke SJWs "PCs". However, glad the Braves won.
  25. Looks like AA with the WS ring he couldn’t get with TOR. His additions delivered in the playoffs in spades, as did his vets. Gutsy performance all round by a team who lost some huge players. You just have to get in and get on a roll at the right time. Congratulations!
