  1. So uhh... if Panik's entire value is wrapped up in his defense and he isn't a particularly good defender, why exactly is he on the roster?
  2. Pretty good vibes when the MLB.TV broadcast goes live and the first thing you see is Springer smiling and dancing in the dugout.
  3. The closest anyone has ever come to the home run cycle was actually Edwin Encarnacion. On August 29, 2015 against the Detroit Tigers, Edwin hit a 2-run homer, a 3-run homer and a Grand Slam. He would have lead off the 9th inning but because it was a blow out he didn't get that plate appearance. The next day, on August 30, 2015, he hit a solo home run in the 1st inning, his first plate appearance of the game.
  4. This was also essentially a salary dump from the Mets and I was one of many at the time complaining about the possibility that paying Matz his $5M or so could prevent them from paying Paxton $15M or so. The Jays made out like bandits even from that perspective.
  5. I'm a little perplexed that they decided to option Rowdy considering he was starting to play well lately, especially for Travis Bergen. And Ryu seemed sure he wasn't going to miss a start but the 10-Day IL stint means he's at least going to miss one.
  6. Aaaand Buxton went 5-for-5 today with a homer, two doubles and a stolen base, lmao. He's now leading the MLB in WAR with 2.3 but doesn't even show up on the leaderboards because he doesn't have enough plate appearances to qualify.
  7. Open Gym style micro-documentary on Vladdy's 3-homer night. Vladdy talks about how if he can get locked in during BP, he's able to take that into games. Love this type of content and I wish the Blue Jays do it more often.
  8. Vladdy's got the third highest position player WAR in the majors at 1.7... until you remove the plate appearance qualifier and realize Byron Buxton is actually #2 and doesn't even show up because he hasn't played enough. 1.8 WAR for Buxton in 16 games and 63 plate appearances. Wild.
  9. Yeah his interview quotes make it seem like he knows Arozarena is probably annoyed but doesn't actually care because he doesn't trust anyone in baseball to make that play over himself.
  10. Vladdy Sr.'s whole Twitter timeline is about Junior and it's the most adorable thing.
  11. Game #23 Nationals (Fedde) @ Blue Jays (Matz) Schedule | Standings | FanGraphs | News | Video | Spotlight | Twitter | Reddit | Instagram
  12. My wife just bust out laughing behind me. Apparently one of the commentators had their Ring app go off?
  13. Holy s***, Ronald Acuna Jr. sent this ball 481 feet at 112 MPH.
  14. Game #22 Nationals (Scherzer) @ Blue Jays (Thornton) Schedule | Standings | FanGraphs | News | Video | Spotlight | Twitter | Reddit | Instagram
  15. Top 10 pitchers in the MLB by fWAR after yesterday's duel between Burnes and Rogers: Burnes was so bonkers for most of that game that he gained 0.3 WAR despite giving up 4 earned runs. Rogers also gained 0.3 and jumped from #19 on the board to #9. Obviously still way too early and the sample size is way too small but Burnes is basically DeGrom so far and Rogers has been incredible for his age.
  16. The Marlins pinch hit for Trevor Rogers, so his day is done. Not the guy I would have picked to win the duel tonight. 6.0IP - 7K - 0BB - 6H - 0R Rogers entered the day with a 2-1 record, a 1.67 ERA and 31 K's. Finishes with a likely 3-1 record, a 1.29 ERA and 38 K's. Burnes entered the day with a 2-1 record, a 0.37 ERA and 40 K's. Finishes with a likely 2-2 record, a 1.53 ERA and 49 K's. If the Marlins win, Rogers will have wins against Burnes and DeGrom this year. Only 23 years old, kid might be the real deal.
  17. Most of the hits Burnes gave up in the 6th were f***y and it felt like he got BABIP'd to death. Looks like that's exactly what happened. Exit velocity on the 5 straight hits Burnes gave up in the 6th: 86.4 mph 90.3 mph 70 mph 112.5 mph 83.5 mph
  18. Corbin Burnes had given up one run all season long and he just gave up a 3-spot on five straight hits without an out. Pulled with 4 earned runs on the day and leaves men on 1st and 3rd that are his responsibility. That 5th run at least is almost certainly going to score considering the Marlins still have 0 outs. Either way, this is the first time Burnes has given up 4 runs in a game since 2019.
  19. Burnes gave up a run and nearly tripled his ERA, lmao. Edit: And he just gave up another one. Four straight hits to start the 6th. ERA up from 0.37 to 1.23. Sad.
  20. Kenley Jansen holds the record with 51 Ks to start a season without a walk given up. Burnes is at 49 Ks. But he's just given up three hits to start the 6th and is at 83 pitches now so this is looking unlikely to be resolved tonight. Will be lucky to get out of this inning, let alone getting 3 more K's.
  21. History alert: Burnes is 3 K's away from breaking the MLB record for most strikeouts to start a season without giving up a walk. 9K 0BB so far today.
  22. The Marlins/Brewers game has been exactly the gorgeous pitching battle I was hoping for. 5.0 IP, 9K, 0BB, 3H, 1R so far for Burnes (70 pitches). 4.0 IP, 6K, 0BB, 4H, 0R so far for Rogers (56 pitches). What a duel. These kids are studs.
