  1. I think I made it pretty clear in the offseason that I don't give a s*** what Oliver thinks. I hardly believe in 1-year projections, 5-year projections are a joke.
  2. Why would you be talking 2015 and 2016 when Buehrle's contract expires after 2015? That doesn't even make it a logical comparison at that point. Citing Buehrle's FIP-based fWAR is disingenuous, but flat-out projecting 7 wins for a guy that's still not back from an elbow injury that shelved him for two months already, isn't?
  3. I honestly can't believe you made this post. You're projecting 7 WAR over 1.5 seasons for a 35 year old that just missed two months of his current season because of an elbow injury (and isn't actually back yet), while projecting 2 wins over 1.5 seasons for Buehrle, a guy who is immune to injury, and posted more than that amount (2.2 WAR) in half a season so far. Yeah... okay...
  4. But apparently 19M = 38M. Similar contracts and all.
  5. Except they don't? Buehrle is owed $19M for one guaranteed season after this year. Lee is owed $37.5M for one guaranteed season after this year. If they pick up his option, that's $52.5M for two years after this season. I love how people are still trying to write Buehrle off as an albatross. 19M in 2015 for a guy that's performing like a ToRP and never gets hurt is a way better deal in this f***ed up market than absolutely anyone gives credit for. More importantly than that, through their age-35 seasons, Buerhle has thrown twice as many innings as Cliff Lee. Which is why I'll repeat what I said. People jizzing over Lee and s***ing on Buerhle are f***ing hilarious.
  6. I used to like Jeff Sullivan before reading this garbage.
  7. The amount of people who jizz over Cliff Lee and the amount of people who s*** on Mark Buehrle... f***ing hilarious.
  8. I would probably sell everything. The Jays have enough valuable MLB chips in a very competitive market to bring in an incredible haul. Keep everyone that is 27 years old or under, and sell everyone else. And if they're too pussy to do that, then grow a pair of nuts and make the right buy-in moves to give this team a legit shot. Not a s***** run at the 2nd wild card; a World Series shot.
  9. No, I didn't imply at any point that people are stupid for liking this move by Gibbons. I implied that people are stupid for changing their stance and opinion of a pitcher on a start-by-start basis, and that I wouldn't be surprised if the opposite was once again true a week or two from now.
  10. And who decided that he has "looked anything but good over the last few starts"? You? Two starts ago, he kept the Jays in the game where they eventually swept the Brewers. Three starts ago, he obliterated the White Sox. Five starts ago, he pitched 6 innings of 1-hit ball against the O's. Everyone was going into his most recent start with optimism, saying he's been good lately and they're expecting to see the Jays beat the Angels on that day. This whole sky-is-falling/Happ-is-garbage mentality being displayed in this thread literally developed over his single most recent start. Tell it like it is: reactionary ********.
  11. Or maybe the people who pitched him to throw the 2nd most starts? Maybe that.
  12. That's basically what I pointed out after editing that post. I believe he's outpitched him, but if he hasn't, then they're basically a variation of the exact same guy. Exact same K/BB. Happ has a slightly lower FIP, xFIP and gives up a few less homers, while Dickey has a slightly higher groundball ratio, leaves a bit more on base, and has a better ERA. http://i.gyazo.com/9f873192c3ddb8ce51dca91b361370a1.png Like I said, they've both been mediocre defined. Nobody should give a s*** which one of them is pitching on any given day, unless they can pull up research that tells us where and how exactly Dickey's knuckler is more effective. Outside of that, it's basically-passable-s*** vs basically-passable-s***. Ideally you replace both, but we'll be lucky if they even replace one.
  13. In 40 fewer innings. Happ was injured for the first three weeks of the season, and then had to make three appearances in relief. 0.8 fWAR in 72 innings as a starter. Happ has been a better pitcher, and if anyone wants to dispute that, the best they can come away with is that they've been exactly the same, the difference is that negligible. It's nowhere near as far as needing to rejoice over the fact that Dickey is replacing Happ in a certain spot of the rotation cycle. They've both been the epitome of mediocre.
  14. Ha, "new guy". Is it supposed to take more than a year to "figure this place out"? lol I don't think it takes new posters more than a few days to realize how reactionary this board generally is.
  15. No, actually, he's been far from decent. He's in the role of #2 starter, and he's barely pitched enough to be considered a #5 on a wild card team. 65 starting pitchers and 20 relievers have already provided more value than RA Dickey. This thread is nothing more than a flavour of the week bandwagon kicking up dust over his last start. It'll continue until he pitches well, and the moment he fumbles, there will be a new thread talking about how garbage he is. Even Happ has out-pitched him so far.
  16. Inb4 the forum has Dickey on its shitlist and Happ is a god again within two weeks time.
  17. MacArthur: Anthopoulos Says Lind Injury a "Non-Story" Scott MacArthur, 7/12/2014 1:36:58 AM ST. PETERSBURG – Minutes after his Blue Jays toughed out an 8-5 victory over the division rival Rays, general manager Alex Anthopoulos stood with assembled media in the bowels of Tropicana Field, incredulous over the degree to which Adam Lind's fractured right foot had become a topic of conversation. "I just think there isn't a whole lot going on in the city right now and on an off day it was a story," said Anthopoulos. Perhaps Anthopoulos has a point. Then again, it was Lind who volunteered that he underwent an MRI on Tuesday in Anaheim at the behest of his mother, who was among those concerned about her son's foot, which took the brunt of a foul ball on June 14 in Baltimore. It was Lind who'd suggested he would miss the next six to eight weeks, leaving observers to ponder how the club would hold up without a middle-of-the-order, left-handed bat that has spent the season destroying right-handed pitching. Anthopoulos moved to clarify the timeframe. He said Lind had begun to feel improvement in his foot in late June but that while running on an extra-base hit in the July 2 win over Milwaukee, the pain worsened. Lind's level of discomfort increased during the series in Oakland – he played the first two games at first base and was forced to chase down a number of pop ups in O.co Coliseum's vast foul territory – and it was during the Jays' stay in Northern California that the club began considering sending Lind for an MRI. "We knew that if it ever plateaued or if it went backwards that we would get an MRI but you don't do that unless it gets to that point," said Anthopoulos. "You don't MRI everybody all the time when there are plenty of guys who have issues." The imaging took place on Tuesday in Anaheim. That's when the fracture of the metatarsal was discovered. It was confirmed by Dr. Robert Anderson, a Charlotte, North Carolina foot specialist, who also verified Lind's late July or early August return to action. Lind will spend the next week, approximately, in a walking boot. The club decided not to make Lind available for comment on Friday night, as was the original plan. He'd rejoined the team on the Gulf Coast and maintains a residence in the area. While it didn't seem like one at the time, not to mention it's strangely uncommon for an athlete to mention his mother in the context Lind did on Wednesday, Anthopoulos wrote of Lind's comment as a joke. "You guys know Adam," said Anthopoulos. "Nice, easy going guy, funny in his own way. I don't think he thought anything of anything. It just, he even says today, 'I can't believe we have to talk about this.' I kind of feel the same way. I understand if you guys feel it's a story than it is a story." Addressing Lind's six-to-eight week self diagnosis, Anthopoulos said the club, not a player, releases injury information to avoid such confusion. He speculated Lind lost something in translation. "Whether the doctor didn't specify from the time of the injury, whether Adam just heard six-to-eight weeks, I don't know," said Anthopoulos. "Again, all I would say is, you guys have been covering the team for a long time, I'd say almost every single time injury news comes from the team. If we know we're getting an opinion and we're not commenting until we get all the information (because) there's just no point." Anthopoulos assured Lind isn't in trouble. "No one's upset at him, no one's mad," said Anthopoulos. "Someone was telling me about having apologies or things like that. I mean, this took on a life of its own that's not even, I just think it's a non-story." It will be a non-story soon. Time goes by; these things tend to die down. What can't be denied: Lind's bat will be badly missed until the Blue Jays get it back.
  18. How many accounts are you going to make before you give up? Two at once today probably didn't even scratch the surface, am I right?
  19. This was fantastic. Nobody should be surprised at this; throughout his career, Johnson has had genuinely elite plate discipline. Johnson and Reimold were both excellent pickups. Hope Reimold's injury isn't serious. If you want to contend, role players like Reimold, Johnson, and Kawasaki when he's on, are imperative.
  20. Ah, yes. The old Twist of Logic.
  21. I would definitely take anybody on this forum as GM over Anthopoulos. It would be magnificent to read all the stories from other team's GMs about how the Blue Jays general manager collapses into a miserable fit of rage everytime they reject one of his trade offers.
  22. http://i.imgur.com/RN70TUF.gif Brilliant.
  23. lol, people think GMs are only capable of talking about one or a few specific positions at a time. The business acumen on this forum. Don't be silly. It's physically impossible to be considering more than one trade at any given time. This definitely means that there's no chance of any other moves being made, for the next twelve years.
  24. lol'd because the one Moogy post I was able to read through ignore filter in this thread was KingKat's quote where he's talking about other's weaknesses and insecurities. http://i.imgur.com/py2PxcN.gif
  25. Except it's not a perfect world and half of the Jays roster is injured. Perennially.
