The splitter is starting to work folks. Gausman is also mixing in the slider a bunch and it's causing a third pitch that nobody expected to be considered.
Credit to Wells for standing three feet off the plate and Stroman hitting the glove fooling the ump into making some god awful calls, I guess. Holy f*** some of these aren't even close.
First pitch of the game and Stroman is already getting the outside corner beyond the zone. Could be a tough day if he stays out there all game, like he did in the last at Yankee Stadium.
Totally undressed Gleyber Torres with two rare sliders and a fastball at 98. So the velo is much better, fastball command looking good, but he's struggling to get chases on the splitter and not commanding it the best.
I think his control being s*** was more the problem than anything. His velo is probably lower as a starter than a reliever anyway so hard to make conclusions there without looking further into it.
Him and the Padres needed that. He'd been woeful to start the season. Not exactly the kind of start they envisioned for the centrepiece return to the Soto trade.
Surely there's a tangible difference between it and the "grass" turf of the outfield right? The warning track is as visual of an indicator as it is a tactile one to determine when you're about to run into the wall. Would be kind of egregious if it was only a visual difference on a turf field.
Well that's what the warning track dirt is for. If it's not differentiable enough from the artificial grass, then that's the only thing that would need to change. Otherwise they'd just have to make the warning track on the sides extend even wider so fielders can get a sense for the wall earlier.
Maybe a hot take, but I wouldn’t have minded Biggio in for Schneider or Clement this inning. He either strikes out looking or walks with no in between, but the walk odds are high.
