I applaud John Schneider for making the gutsy calls this inning to keep it to a 1 run game. The offense is already scuffling and with Hader coming in, keeping it at 1 just gives them enough of a chance. Different story with a 2 run game.
Varsho has been a complete pop up machine to start the season. It’s obviously early and this is all reactionary but man I definitely would’ve liked to see this revamped swing and approach. I’d settle for a hard hit groundball at this point to give me some hope again.
Yeah at the end of the day he has 13 swings and misses on 68 pitches. 3 on the fastball, 8 on the curve and 2 on the splitter(?). The average exit velo on the fastball was 97 mph though, when they made contact they really made contact.
Credit to Houston though, Blanco’s scouting report says he’s almost 50% sliders, 40% fastballs and 10% mostly changeups. This game he’s mixed them evenly and the Jays have not adjusted.
