  1. Maybe he's moving to Texas?
  2. It may be easy to hate the Yankees, but the real problem is with MLB. Every other major sport has a hard salary cap to make sure it's a level playing field and that small market teams can compete. The Yankees are simply taking advantage of a flawed system and I would do the same thing if I were in their shoes.
  3. I would put Moseby above White. Moseby played 10 seasons as a Jay, White played 5. White was the better fielder, Moseby the better hitter...but if not for the World Series wins, White wouldn't really hold up to him. This is why, as much as I respect the numbers, they don't tell the whole story. Wells could not hold a candle to Lloyd Moseby and what he meant to the Jays.
  4. You will notice I said this in my post. Halladay is Halladay. Second best pitcher in franchise history behind Dave Stieb, would have been the best of all time and broken franchise records had he stayed a few more years. Halladay is a Jays great. Vernon Wells was good, but I wouldn't put him on an all-time Jays team and the only way he could have catapulted himself into greatness would be through clutch playoff performances, of which he had none, his fault or not. Wells will be regarded in the history books as an average - slightly above average hitter and an exceptional fielder. But I will always remember him as a lazy player who would joke around and not seem to care whether they were winning or losing. Sadly we have a clubhouse full of these types of players on this team right now as well.
  5. I would be more interested to see these stats for each individual pitcher.
  6. I'm a little surprised I need to explain why clutch performances matter.
  7. Bad contract or not, he was never a great player, just a better than average one. Great is Halladay, Stieb, Alomar, Fernandez, Delgado. Good is Gruber, White, Carter, Wells...and I'd put Wells near the bottom of that list because he never played a meaningful game as a Jay. Not his fault, but still. Greatness comes in the playoffs unless you are exceptional in the regular season, which Wells never was.
  8. Um...sorry but I don't want him anywhere near this team. His lazy attitude is already something we have in abundance on this team. Always smiling and joking around whether winning or losing...have we forgotten the patented Vernon Wells "pop fly, slam the bat down and scream while running to first base every other at bat"? I would hardly consider him a Blue Jay "great". He had one good season hitting in front of Delgado during his BEST season. After that he was mediocre at the plate and great in the field. He is one of the more tenured Jays, sure...but a great? I don't think so.
  9. Point is we need to push Happ down the depth chart so he's no longer our #5 but our #6/long relief man. I like him fine in that role (and let's be honest, there will be injuries and he'll end up our #5 anyway), but to start the year with him as our #5 is not very inspiring.
  10. We need a front end starter and a good 3-4 slot starter to really make an impact. Depth then starts with Happ. That's a rotation I'd be more comfortable with. But realistically, save for a minor move here or there, the team we have now is likely the team we start with. I'd love to see AA go all in on Tanaka but it looks like the Yankees have unbuckled their belt and are pulling it out of their loops because they are willing to spend money again and that likely means we're gonna be their whipping boys once again. Bend over, my friends.
  11. There's a very simple way to prevent duplicate accounts using vBulletin. I adminstrated a forum like this for about 10 years.
  12. Even if AA does nothing, this team will still be better than last year. They SHOULD be showing up to camp with something to prove. Dickey won't have as bad a year as last year, JPA and his infinite strikeouts and zero walks are gone for at least an adequate MLB catcher which should create a ripple effect through the pitching staff. Hutch is back, that's huge. Bonifacio is gone and replaced by an A+ defensive 2B. Basically the same team we were so excited about last off season, only now maybe they won't feel so entitled. That said, the Yankees are vastly improved, the Sox are the champs, the Rays are still the Rays. It would have been nice to add SOMEONE substantial to the lineup.
  13. Define "successful".
  14. Most hurt feelings: JugglingPitches Not one nomination. My heart aches.
  15. When I started this thread, if you'd told me it would reach 45 pages (and counting), I would have thought you were crazy.
  16. Lowry to the Knicks? http://www.tsn.ca/nba/story/?id=438819
  17. For starters, we wouldn't have to bench him every time we play a lefty.
  18. Well now they have a good 2B to trade and two 1B/DH's. They could flip those for at least two decent OF'ers and there are plenty of good pitchers available. They are this off season's Blue Jays, haha.
  19. I will take Smoak over Lind all day long.
  20. If this trade happens I will find a way to buy 51% of Rogers stock just so I can fire AA personally.
  21. Now it will be called Rogers Baseball Dome instead of Rogers Center. They will renovate the outside of the building to look like a cable box. To compensate for this renovation and brand change, they will be slashing team payroll in half and entering a new rebuilding phase. That will be all.
  22. "Everything is bigger in Texas, so my ego will look normal here."
