    I don't think he was in the database. Irritatingly, this is the very day Yahoo! fantasy baseball went offline so it's impossible to check but I'm pretty sure someone would have stashed him by now if it was a possibility.

    Yeah that was brutal. The irony was that Revere was the perfect guy to have there. He literally gives you a 90% chance of not striking out but there's nothing you can do when you get robbed like that. It's nice to have a guy like him in your lineup, a guy who can make something out of nothing and balances out the three true outcome types.

    The Eaton rumours go back as far as this July 2016 MLBTR article but there's no real substance to it. It's all just speculation.

    From what I understand, the premise behind trading Eaton is that they need to do tear-down and rebuild and by the time that's over, Eaton will be in his decline. Stroman is a little younger than Eaton but also has one less year of control. Will their rebuild be over within the 4 years of control? Would they plan to extend him? Seems like they would be better off targeting high end prospects but that's not any concern of the Jays.

    Somehow I missed that Maese was drafted in 2015. I thought he had come up as an IFA.

    Why should the Jays care whether Happ is at peak trade value? The Jays aren't a rebuilding team. Trying to determine the peak moment to cash in a veteran player should not be a priority. Starting the season with as set rotation 1-5 is awesome. Why can't we just embrace it? If things go bad then start talking about breaking it up. His value at the deadline might not be quite as high as it is now but that drop in value doesn't justify messing with the opening day roster.

    You'd rank Alford #2 on likeliness of making the majors? I still see a lot of boom or bust in him. I don't think Alford is more likely to make the majors than a perfectly cromulent backup catcher like McGuire though I wouldn't advocate ranking the later ahead of the former.

    FWIW, Beltran's camp denied this.

    Well if they DID sign someone like Beltran to DH full time, it would pretty much kill the whole Smoak is getting significant playing at 1B time notion. We heard some speculation that one of the thing the Jays liked about Morales was that he's used to DHing and shouldn't press at the plate the way some players do when they focus exclusively on hitting. Would be ironic if it turned out that what they actually liked about Morales is that he was an underrated 1B unfairly perceived as a DH only player.

    I don't really see the point in putting a numeric value on a subjective assessment. Just seems like a way to make scouting seem more scientific than it is. I mean I guess it's the best way to average out multiple assessments but it feels pretty forced.

    I'll just assume it was terrible and that he should focus on baseball.

    Fair enough. He's long been rumored to not want to play in Toronto for awhile so there might not be much to this. I like Beltran less if he won't play the OF at all and had to glue him permanently to DH. Even if Morales holds up at 1B, the loss of flexibility would be a drag.

    Beltran can play the OF. Heck, he's be an upgrade over Saunders and Bautista. Pretty perfect Jose replacement really. It does seems a little weird to force one of him or Morales to play the field every day but the appeal here is the short commitment.

    I have to admit. I don't really see the argument for Greene.

    Yeah I'm pretty sure he can get 4/80 from someone else so there's not much incentive for him to sign now. It's a credible offer. If that's all it took, he'd have signed but he's clearly going to the highest bidder. He said all the right things but he was just trying to leverage his popularity to drive up the Jays bid.

    Given how much interest that generated last year, that's almost a given.

    For those who don't get the reference: (This was back in practical effects days so they drove through an abandoned mall that they dressed like a working one to get that scene. Just trashed it.)
