  1. I have to get up at 6:30 for my 40 minute bike ride to work. Should be safe.
  2. Atlantic time zone getting on my tits right now.
  3. Maddon won't let Baez take the fall for that regardless of whose idea it was so we'll never really know.
  4. Remember when I said Francona and Maddon were 1 and 2 among managers? Yeah about that...
  5. Thought it was a takeout slide but upon review, he's going right for the bag. Carry on.
  6. Need some nerves of steel to do that. Making an out on the bases would haunt you forever.
  7. That ball that hit him in the head looms large (not that it's his fault but it will haunt him if they don't win).
  8. Rajai gonna Rajai. Really crazy to me that he's still getting CF playing time.
  9. Putting that English degree to good use I see.
  10. I'm pretty sure the last person King vouched for was Moogy. That went about as well as expected.
  11. There's what seems to be a fairly thoroughly researched piece on umpire selection here.
  12. I wonder how many players consider umpires their co-workers. I'm sure some do, players like Tulo and the like who value their relationships with them but I'm sure a lot of players would only truly consider other players their co-workers and would only show reluctance to criticize players not the umps. Since it's really not an unfair criticism in the first place, I don't really see the big deal. It's not like he's airing out dirty laundry or anything. He's just calling it like it is from the safe distance of retirement.
  13. I think it's not an uncommon sentiment among the nerd set. A lot of people want to see good process rather than bad process rewarded so they hate underdog fluky teams generally. That being said, it would be unfair to claim that Cleveland doesn't have good process. They have done a lot with fairly limited means. They have just the right tools and know how to use them and it's allowing them to beat deeper, wealthier teams. I think it's been fun to watch and yeah good fortune has played a role in their success it but it nearly always does so I'm not inclined to hold that against them. The only thing that kind of sucks is how teams that don't have a deep rotation can play up in the postseason by riding an ace but it's not like Cleveland didn't have rotation depth. That's how they got here. It just so happens that their depth was decimated by injury which is hardly their own fault.
  14. Unless you're a big Cubs fan, I don't see why this would bother anyone. This kind of thing only really bugs me if a huge false narrative is built out of it. I mostly hear about what a great young player Lindor is (which is true) and about how awesome Miller is and how well Francona uses him (both true as well).
  15. Maybe the first game where Cleveland mistakes have been costly.
  16. At this point, you have to assume that Maddon's plan all along was to go Arrieta/Lester tomorrow. That would explain burning Chapman.
